The Kent Farm never looked so inviting to Clark.

He had occupied himself lately by devoting more time than ever to his heroism. It had been a week since he had slept. It seemed like every time he stopped he saw Lois' face, the way she had looked before he flew away. The sadness in her eyes.

There's only one thing to be done when a man's world seems to be falling apart. Come home. Johnathan had sounded wise as ever on the phone, and Clark had decided he had the right of it.

He had spent yesterday helping his father with work, mending broken equipment and making sure the fields were in good repair. He had tried sleeping in his old room but he found he couldn't, so instead Clark went and sat out on the porch to watch the sunrise. He made himself a dark coffee, like Johnathan usually drank, and watched orange-pink light as it came up over the horizon...

And coming over that horizon, dressed in all black, was Conner, who was late coming home...again. Granted, he had been in Star City helping out Mia, but he still didn't like the idea of Ma or Pa Kent waiting up on him.

From his current distance, he can already see Clark sitting out on the porch and Conner smiles to himself as he hasn't seen Clark in quite sometime.

He makes a detour to the barn and changes clothes, into something more colorful, and goes to visit his "cousin".

"Hey, when did you get in?" Conner asks.

He noted Conner's progress, confident that his cousin would come over at some point to say hi. When he finally did, Clark stood and went over to him, placing an affectionate arm across his shoulder. "Hey Conner, good to see you bud. Got in yesterday afternoon I believe" Clark sat back down in his chair, pulling up another and offering it to Conner. "You want some coffee" Clark asked, offering to pour some for his cousin.

"Uh, sure." Conner says, sitting down with Clark.

"I'm really glad you're here, Clark. I, uh...I could use some advice. Things have been kind of weird for me lately." Conner says, his head hanging a little bit.

"Cassie and I broke up." he says quietly. "And now...I think I'm really starting like someone else a lot, but I don't want to hurt Cassie because they're friends." he says.

Talk about ironic... "I'm sorry to hear that Conner" He considered a moment, debating how much to tell Conner. "Well I'm probably not the guy to be giving advice right now... but-- I'd say think long and hard before you rush into anything." He shrugged. "Things like this, with close friends and groups who work together. I mean at the end of the day, people are very fragile." He took a sip of coffee. "How strongly do you feel about this person?"

"Mia is really great, Clark." Conner says, his face brightening the moment he says her name.

"She's funny and witty. She loves Chinese food and we beat Metallo together a few weeks ago. He tried to attack a Youth Center in Star City and the two of us stopped him. She didn't miss a beat or back down, Clark.

She's a lot like Lois in that respect. How is Lois, anyway?" Conner asks, not catching onto his cousin's somber mood.

You had to love Conner- for his innocence if nothing else. Clark winced a little and looked away. "Well, I'm probably not one to give relationship advice right now... me and Lois are taking a break..." he paused "Maybe for good." He shook his head "Sorry for being such a downer" he smiled weakly.

Conner blinks once, then again.

Lois and Clark were taking a break?

"Inconceivable!" Conner says, speaking the first word that came to mind. Mia had him watching The Princess Bride the other night.

"Clark, I'm so sorry. I didn't mean to..." Conner starts, trying to figure out how to help his cousin.

"Clark, you can't let this stand, man. I'm sure if you guys talk it out, you'll fix it. You showed me that talking usually helps where there's a problem." Conner says.

"Did you forget her birthday?" he asks.

"I forgot a lot of things" Clark said, unable to meet Conner's gaze. "I went away for 3 months to visit Krypton- to try and center myself after the League broke up- but when I came back it seemed to backfire. The world needs me more than ever." He turned and looked sadly at Conner. "Someone has to step up and take the world on their shoulders. I drew the short straw" he felt a pang of pain.

And one day, it may have to be you... He hoped that day would never come- that Conner would be able to have the normal life Clark seemed incapable of.

"Hey, just because you're Superman doesn't mean you can't have a life of your own, Clark. I think both you /and/ the world forget that sometimes." Conner says.

"And...just because the League fell apart, that doesn't mean you're the only one responsible for that. Everyone in the League is a member, right? Doesn't everyone get a vote?

Look, all I'm saying is that if you let Lois go through with this, you're going to regret it forever, Clark. No matter how many people you save or how many super-villains you punch out, you and Lois are a team.

Both of you have a choice in that, too." he says.
