The Mandatory Assembly

Jillian Hulett
On the advice of Professor Morse and what he assured her was a group of esteemed professors, Jillian Hulett assembled the student body in the Grand Ballroom. House parents took attendance as the downtrodden students filed in and took their seats. It seemed as though the threat of detentions until summer vacation was taken seriously. Eventually everyone was settled and quiet.

Sitting behind Jillian were the most intimidating professors of Dresden Academy. A calculated move at best, but beyond being highly strategic it settled Jillian to the task at hand. She could lecture the students and they might listen, but chances were they'd take her more seriously with their awe inspiring professors on board.

"It's been brought to my attention that a majority of the student population is behaving well outside the established code of conduct."

Right to it then. Irene Hulett smirked from her spot on the floor, just off to the side of the raised dais. She wasn't going to miss this assembly for anything.

"When you were invited to Dresden Academy it was expected and agreed upon that you would abide by the very simple rules we set forth. You are to present yourself as diligent students and functioning members of wizarding society. I can't say that your recent behaviors have impressed your value as continued members of our community."

She offered the gathered students a very stern frown before continuing. "I cannot very well expel the entire student population and close our school, though an example must be made." She waited until the murmurs of malcontent died off. She had no doubts about the student reaction to her proposal; it was the harshest and also fairest sentence she could dream up to get the point across.

"Until spring break campus will be on lock-down. All student privileges have been revoked. You will go to classes, to clubs, and then directly back to your dorms to study. The spring fling events and dance have been canceled. Sporting events will carry on, but at the earliest indication of trouble they can just as easily be canceled."

She waited until the outrage reached a reasonable volume to talk over. "It could be worse," she threatened. "If you prefer." She waited again while this thought resonated. No one wanted it worse than this particular punishment. "That will be all. Back to your dorms."

And with that, the students were duly punished and dismissed.
