A few hours later an owl arrives with a hastily scrawled picture of an idea Thorn's had for their next matching tattoos. It's the sort that's best not described in mixed company or too much detail.

The weather was nice enough that despite the occasional threat of rain, students dotted the lawns of Dresden Academy, milled around in between classes. He'd already heard teachers handing out detentions slip for students being tardy, lingering in the nice weather.

When the last class of the day let out, the whole lawn teemed with students. No one wanted to be trapped indoors after the long cold winter. This break of weather brought out frisbees and a volleyball set (replete with birdies and badminton rackets that were being passed eagerly between participants taking turns) that was surely going to be knocked down as soon as Hulett noticed it.

Amused by the whole scene, Sig decided to toss down his backpack and long slate gray coat for a go at badminton. It was such a muggle game, but then this school never bothered much with keeping their wizarding population shielded from such things. They rather reveled in how muggle friendly they were.

At the moment Sig was reveling in a rather impressive pelt of the birdie over the net. It happened to hit a passing student in the back of the head. "Shit! Sorry," he called out.

He didn't like taking the goddamn floo and he could still apparate, even though he'd given up his wand and stopped practicing magic altogether. It didn't erase the ability underneath his refusal. For years he insisted on traveling by muggle means, but this thing with Veruca had taken an interesting turn and he couldn't afford to pay air fare every time he wanted to visit her.

( Not that she wasn't willing to pay his fare and bend to his muggle minded ways. )

Quidditch Nationals! First Round!

Blue Ridge faced off against L'Ecole Royal at the Canadian school and squeaked by with a last minute win. A disheartening loss for the Quebecois on their own field. Blue Ridge moves into the next round and L'Ecole Royal will have to wait another year for a shot at the trophy.

The Bears squared off against the Falcons. In a reversal of fortunes, the Bears made a comeback after their brutal (and I mean physically brutal) loss as a newly formed team. Madelyn Cooper proved her worth and led the Bears to victory. Final score: 18 to 12

What: Addy has a problem and tries to fix it.

The first senior wandless class Addy assisted with after breaking up with Luka was excruciating. Everyone in the room knew that they had something, and that now they didn't, and that neither one of them wanted to be enduring an awkward cycle of pretending nothing was wrong in front of other people.

They avoided eye contact the entire lesson and didn't speak once. She didn't broach the area of the classroom where he was sitting at all; busying herself with a student at the front of the room and running back to her dorm after the class ended as though she were escaping a disaster zone. She buried her face in her pillow and howled with frustration. This was not going to work.

The only solution she could think of was a rather cowardly one, but it would have to do. ( She met up with Professor Walsh between classes the next day to extend her proposal. )

Who: Thorn and Prof. Morse
What: Professor Morse has an idea regarding Hawthorne's summer vacation.
When/Where: Friday, March 9th. Prof. Morse's office.

Thorn was sitting in Morse's office yet again. It wasn't for any particular offense or concern. Rosenthal had spoken with Morse about Thorn's progress as an art TA, which was turning out to be a surprisingly good arrangement. This was mostly just to check in with Thorn, to see where he felt he was at.

His work in potions had progressed to the point that he could possibly TA for advanced if he continued his studies over the summer. Morse had an idea brewing in the back of his head, one he was certain wouldn't get much support for from the Hulett oligarchy. For this particular troubled youth he was willing to put his own money into the pot.

Who: Marina, Cinna, Carly, Tina, Prof. Olivier, and the cheerleading NPCs
What: Cheerleading practice is going "great" after all the tensions Carly's stirred up and things quickly denigrate.

Marina was about to punt Carly in the back of the head.

If it weren't bad enough being a general bitch to everyone all the time anyway. Carly seemed to have perfected the art of taking out her social frustrations out on all of them at practice. "Have you always been this useless?" she asked one of the younger girls. "From the top until Rachel gets it right."

( Marina groaned and rolled her eyes toward Tina. )

Who: Maddy and Riley
What: Maddy surprises Riley with a corset and a challenge to disrobe her and it quickly goes downhill.

Maddy never quite knew what to expect with Riley. It was both entertaining and irritating. This afternoon she hoped it would be the former.

What: Bernadine goes to the library to research when she thinks she might have actually cast some magic. Steven snoops.

The first time she cast a spell it was something of a fluke.

It was lumos and she thought for a good long while it was just something all wands did; in her mind any old muggle could pick up a wand and make it glow if they thought about it hard enough. It had to be a built in thing. She'd have to ask Pepper if her research turned up fruitless; she wasn't going to bug her cousin when Dresden Academy had a very impressive library.

She wasn't nearly as excited as she should have been, maybe a bit jittery. If she could actually cast... ( Well, it would change a lot of things. )

Addy checked the fingernipping box under her bed to ensure that yes, she did indeed have chocoballs stashed away for an emergency (and didn't this entire fortnight just count as an emergency?) and tipped them out onto her bed to pick up and transport into Bernadine's room.

She poked her head out of her room to peer around the suite and see if anyone was about to notice her taking a detour into her 'mortal enemy's territory instead of yelling at Carly and Shell some more on the wizarding web. ( Finding it clear, she bundled the candy in her arms and scooted across Bernadine's way; letting herself in before anyone could spy them breaking character. )

I know your like the most pateint person ever but how do you stop yourself from killing carly every day?

Herons took the Bobcats.

As a result of this win and their previous record against the Bobcats, the Herons will be representing Dresden at the Quidditch Nationals.

What: Thorn comes to a very adult decision.

Hawthorne spent much of his vacation cultivating an impressive migraine. It was the result of thought, introspection, and poor morale.

He'd texted his various ladies (as a result of them texting him first) and decided he'd need to have deep, serious conversations with them. He was in over his head, so much so that he was turning to his best friend for help. The problem with turning to his best friend being that it was Luka; that boy was in no mood to help someone else sort out their love life.

( There was always the option of hashing it out with Abby, but wasn't that messy too? )

What: They get their talk on after fighting at Abby's birthday party.

Addy put her phone down with a massive sense of unease. Luka said he was coming over so they could talk, but he didn't read the least bit happy about it. Which didn't bode well for the conversation they were going to have. Or more likely, she realized with a sinking sensation, a fight. And that in turn put her on edge, which meant they would probably fight now even if they weren't going to before. She really, really didn't want to fight.

( The entire problem with their relationship was how it put their friendship on the line. )

Early in the morning, a fleet of owls deliver the school's monthly newspaper to every student's doorstep.

February's highlights include a rundown of the Quodpot situation and some interesting tidbits from tryouts as well as in-depth coverage of the first game using the new teams. A photo spread of the Sweetheart Dance made the pages, as did minor mention of some of the hijinks that occurred about campus during Valentine's madness. Misha knew he'd have to talk to his son as soon as he dragged himself out of his stupor on the couch. Luka hadn't come home with him, which was usually par for the course over vacations. Whatever had happened the night before, it had been rather bad.

He sat across from his son, offering him a strong cup of coffee with a dash of whiskey for breakfast (lunch, he thought, it's well after noon).

( Thorn took the cup, holding it gingerly between his hands and looking into the steaming black liquid. )

You have to talk to me sometime.

Despite Bernadine's assurances, Addy was not quite so certain that Tim would want to speak to her. She wanted to speak to him-- very much-- but dreaded having one of those awful one-sided conversations where it was quite clear that the other person just wanted you to leave them alone. That said, she wasn't sure it would even be so much as a one-sided conversation given that she had no idea what she might possibly say to him.

Bernadine suggested just breathing, which made her laugh for the first time in days and loosened something up inside her, and she promised to think about calling him. And she did, the very next day.

She sat at the foot of her bed after classes, feet curled up underneath her and stared at her phone for a little bit before finally working up the courage to unlock it and actually call. It rang a few times before being picked up. She was silent for a moment.
