Sounding the Alarm @ 03:41 pm

[info]7thplanetman:

Bob was worried about Dr. Vernard had told him just minutes ago, and one of his compatriots was a man of the nation of Wakanda. It wouldn't be right to allow such a threat go unwarned. Yet, it could not be done directly. So, using the technology of the saucer and as many screening abilities as he could muster, Bob made a call to the highest office in all of Wakanda, all under the guise of a call from a secretary.

International Incidents. @ 01:56 am

[info]latverianregent:

It had been an invitation Kristoff could not refuse, however much he disliked parties. A minor international conference on developing technologies. Several foundations and lobbying organizations interested in Latveria's newfound 'philanthropy and progressiveness' had hoped to see him there. And wasn't that the way it should be? Kristoff knew what had started this, but maybe Latveria could continue to grow and prosper and influence by continuing it. Wasn't that the way to rule the world: by showing you were the best, until the world would settle for no other? Couldn't it be like that, maybe? Perhaps the plans Kristoff was happy not to know of would not even be necessary, in the long run. A boy could dream.
He also hoped to at least get a word with people such as Queen Judith at some point to try to bridge the distance between their kingdoms.

Another high profile guest, he was much less interested in meeting. It was...a little embarrassing, to think of what the Master had done -- with the best of intentions, of course. Always with the best of intentions, but... Kristoff tried to force back those thoughts. Best not to think about that, or think about the Master at all, right now. Latveria was his responsibility for now, and he was going to do what he thought best for it.

Wakanda @ 11:13 am

[info]blackpanther:

This nation is not what it once was.

The final test of wills between the monarchs of Latveria and Wakanda was won, but at a terrible price.  There has always been The Great Mound.  The massive unnatural deposit of vibranium that was the source of Wakandan technology, Wakandan progress, Wakandan strength and Wakandan culture.  But to stop Doom from taking over the world, T'Challa had to sacrifice the processed vibranium that had been stolen to power his armor and his army, through the use of "shadow physics," a mystical study he'd undertaken to combine alchemy with quantum science.  Becoming more like Doom in the process than he'd ever wanted to be... and yet, entirely willing to sacrifice the power he held for the greater good - something Doom would never do.

The ordeal has left his beloved country bereft of economic health.  He may still be Chieftain of the Black Panther clan, but his sister Shuri is now the princess regent and in charge of the actual running of Wakanda - as was made necessary by the intensity of his mystic studies and convalescence from an earlier attack from Doom that nearly killed him.

The rebuilding process will take time, and if there is any boon to be found here, it's that Wakanda no longer holds any interest for the international community, now that the precious resource that every other nation wanted to find ways to steal is no longer present in enough abundance to matter to them.  Wakanda will now fall into that category of African nations where the Western nations will only glance at their problems and muse quietly to themselves that someone should do something to help, and then do nothing, for there is nothing for them to gain.

Wakanda has traditionally been a relative island of stability in the midst of regional ethnic wars in neighboring nations such as Ghudaza.  There has certainly been conflict within its borders between the city dwellers and the marsh tribesmen, between progress and tradition, but there was always an overriding belief that the king always had the best interests of Wakanda at heart, despite his world travels and insistence on ending their safe isolation.

Now, the Wakandan people are not so sure.  The unthinkable has happened.  Everything they always warned about ending their isolation has occurred, and the majority city dwellers shift between rage and despondency as their advanced world crumbles around them, and the tribesmen are often far too quick to take pleasure in the pain of their anguish.

And all of them blame T'Challa.  They wonder why he cannot just bring the vibranium back with the same alchemy that took it away, now that the threat of Doom has ended.  As if that threat could ever end.

The Panther had seen that the strength of Wakanda had also become its weakness - its crutch.  It's dependency, and there was always a finite supply, no matter how great that supply seemed to be.  If Wakanda was to thrive, it would need to diversify.  He would much rather have done so while still retaining the vibranium strength, for that diversification would be a much easier process, but it can still be done.  It must be done, and T'Challa will make every effort to aid in achieving this goal.

Perhaps then, and only then, will he bring back the vibranium.

The trouble now is that the trust in him has faded.  Words of support from Shuri have been less than effective, as she is still proving herself as worthy to hold the throne.  There have been reports of Black Panther Clan idols being torn down, or defaced, which can only serve as fuel to the fire of M'Baku and his outlawed White Gorilla clan... not to mention the delight it must be causing for N'Jadaka, the man known as Killmonger.

These are difficult times for Wakanda.  The burden lies heavily on the shoulders of the former king.
