You're good at the perfect squares, but I get where it can be hard... though depending on how you're doing the resizing... are you using the arrow tool? I know the keystroke to use is V and I use it to both resize and nudge layers into place (nudge as in move one pixel at a time)... if you're doing that just remember to press shift and it will preserve the correct aspect ratio. :)
