HOW TO DO RESEARCH FOR YOUR CHARACTER.

Some of you may have been having problems with finding research for your characters. To make this easier for yourself, here are a few helpful suggestions:

Most musicians that I've met really like to use the New Grove Dictionary for help, though it's easier to follow on paper if at all possible. Your local library might have it; college libraries are extremely more likely to have it. This is also a helpful online tool from Grove.

YOUTUBE your composer, as funny as it sounds. Listen to the music and interpret what you think the music says. Then google that piece and see what other people may say about it, but try to stay away from Wikipedia. If you want a more refined opinion, try Google Scholar. Most of the time, their opinions are the most right. Then try to think what you can do to modernize what the general concensus is of these pieces you've researched. What type of person was the composer, to write pieces like these? How can you make it more modern, but still keeping the same spirit of the composer?

If you have other suggestions of things that have worked for you, please comment here! This thread will be left unlocked so that potential applicants can also see.
