FACTS;
• It's a secret to all of her friends, but Katiya's mother is a mail order bride. There's chemistry between Daniel Gray and her, but they didn't meet in the way that Katiya has described it as. To prevent anyone digging any dirt on her, Katiya even changed her name upon coming to America. Her real name? Dunya Rasia.
• Katiya is very timid...for now. In school back home, she was on a very different level in the social hierarchy, but she's taking the move as a challenge. Most people think her English is poor and that's why she's so quiet. Truthfully, she's just listening in and trying to mentally build a platform for herself to stand on so that she'll be able to fit in and not be walked over.
• She only listens to one musical group since coming to the US. Florence & the Machine is her absolute favorite and everything on the radio and in between sounds like garbage, which her music producer stepfather is very displeased with. Oh, and she's developed a hankering for the Grey's Anatomy soundtracks.
• Has a love for all things ballet. As of now, her ballet slippers are packed away and in the very depths of her closet. She's still finding a place for herself in the new city, and is afraid she won't be up to par with all the well trained dancers in NYC.
• Is a virgin. Katiya's never even kissed a boy, and at this point, is far too terrified to do so. In Kazan, her ice queen status kept boys in fear. Now, there are plenty of boys who approach her, but the advancement towards her is utterly terrifying.
• One of her favorite pastimes is cruising TUMBLR.COM for random amusement. A lot of the time, she winds up searching for pictures of food because she's, more often than not, found herself stunned at the artistry that can go into something so seemingly simple.
• Is absolutely obsessed with the fact that she was born on a leap year. She thinks it adds to her already 'exotic' nature and makes her unique. Technically, she's only four years old. Technically.
• Her mother was the one who made the decision for her to go to University. It's strange for Kat and she feels so very out of her element. UNC was her stepfather's alma mater before he made the trek to New York City, where Katiya lives with her mother and younger half-sister, Natalie, when school isn't in session.
• Lived with an aunt and uncle when her mother first came to America. Kat had to wait a few years before she was eligible to obtain a green card and live permanently with her new family in the states. America is very beautiful and seemingly full of opportunities, but Kat is quite certain that she'll one day return to Kazan to be "home" again.
• The only TV she watched for weeks upon coming to America this past summer was Grey's Anatomy. Which, of course, played into the story of her mother being a surgeon. With that, Kat is a Wikipedia addict and researches everything. Not only to learn in an easy fashion, but to keep up with all of the lies she's made for herself from the embarrassment.
• Holes herself up in her dorm room quite a bit. Not only is she a freshmen in college, but she's been in the states for less than a year. Breaking away from her mother again has been nerve-wracking, but she's treating it as a challenge and using it as a way to reinvent herself and discover.
• Overall, the Russian-born teenager is very content with her life. She's not a mean girl, but she's very distant and brooding. She's happy, but thus far, remains at a fair distance from everyone else. Some find it weird, some find it endearing, but she's convinced that it's only because of her accent and exotic features. It's all part of her own human social experiment, however, and she's interested in watching every jaw drop when she finally comes into her own.
