history.
Bree Smith was the wanted baby girl in a typical nuclear family; her parents had already cranked out her older brother Grayer, destined to be a doctor/lawyer/successful something or other in their eyes and now they needed the princess to complete the set. Of course, when bouncing baby Bree came out, she made it clear that she was no one's princess and made her parents work for every ounce of their sanity. From the moment she could walk and talk, there was no stopping her; the girl was born to move and took to running around naked most of the time, shunning the idea of clothing and generally embarrassing her parents in public. It wasn't terribly long before the Smith's "princess" was left to her own devices instead of dragged to family functions because from a very young age she made it clear that she wanted nothing to do with them.

As she grew, Bree began to express herself in other ways. Her mother owned a seamstress business and often had scraps of fabric lying around the house from one project or another. The young girl, by this point already anointed Zephyr, would create clothing for her dolls out of the scraps up until the point where her mother realized she had at least a little natural talent and put her to work in the shop. In her early teens, she'd go straight from school to the shop, something that pleased both her parents because they knew where she was, what she was doing, and all the energy that seemed to rather incessantly be around was put to good work rather than directed at breaking something they couldn't pay for or otherwise getting into trouble. Or so they figured. The fact that she went through a few sewing machines notwithstanding.

As the Smith siblings grew up, Grayer did go on to pursue a medical career and in the meantime picked up a few college friends. While they thought the younger Smith sib was adorable, she was always just kind of the butt of jokes, something that irked her to no end especially given that she preferred to be the center of attention for other reasons. The boys started an admittedly lame garage band and Zeph, seeking to prove herself, decided to show them what she was made of. Her brother played guitar and was usually pretty busy so it wasn't exactly a challenge to sneak into his room and make use of the instrument. Her musical skills are entirely self taught using the same material her brother had but unlike him, she seemed to take to it easily. Time came when the boys were practicing and she made herself present. They teased and she decided to show them how it was done. Her performance was by no means perfect but it was a damn sight better than her brother's who ended up just giving her the guitar in the end; he didn't have the time for it and after that, decided he certainly didn't have the talent.

Music wasn't a right away thing for her, though. Despite her passion, Zeph ended up getting into modeling first. She had an alternative look that was easy to sell to retailers looking for someone to model their clothing and accessories. While too short to do any haute couture modeling, Zeph made some decent coin shaking it for labels like New York Couture, Dirty Shirty and Hedony Design Latex, all the while making music behind the scenes. Eventually, she came up with a sound that worked for her and with the help of a few friends, formed Excruciating Solace, shaking the metal world with the idea that a girl her size could have such a big growl. It was that combination of scream/ballad vocals that caught the attention of the Materia gang and that guitar she was so damn good at but never used on stage with ES? Well, now she gets to, even if Solace will always be her baby.

personality.
IN HER OWN WORDS: I'm a punk rock prom queen, brown paper magazine, hotter than you've ever seen, everything and in between. I'm a ten ticket thrill ride, don't you wanna come inside, hardest of the hard to get, hardest of the hard to get, no one's little red corvette, ain't seen nothing like me yet! Actually, those are the lyrics to a Josie and the Pussycats song but what the fuck ever, I still like it and I suck at talking about myself unless someone asks me questions so that's what you get.

IN THE WORDS OF OTHERS: Zephyr has way too much energy. If you could bottle it and sell it, you'd be a millionaire. She's usually going at a million miles an hour until she crashes and when she does, she does hard. She's hardly ever seen without a cigarette in her hand which is why it's probably good she doesn't sing and she's the first to get a party started because she's probably the most social person on the planet. She'll literally talk to anyone even if they look like they want her to go die in a fire or something. No one's really sure if she just doesn't get that vibe or ignores it but either way, Zeph is usually a good time if you can put up with her being stuck in go mode.

THE POSITIVE: Enthusiastic - Zeph is, if nothing else, incredibly enthusiastic about everything she pours herself into, occasionally to the point of nausea; Creative - She lends a touch of creativity to everything she does, sometimes with protest from her band mates but usually with unique results; Polite - It's funny that a girl who makes the genre of music she does could be so well mannered, but she was raised right and has trouble shunning that most of the time.

THE NEGATIVE: Proud - Zephyr's pride has more than once landed her in a heap of trouble. She doesn't take well to being made fun of; Ancy - The energetic slip of a girl has trouble sitting still most of the time and a limited attention span; Impatient - When Zeph wants something, she wants it now and will go out of her way to make things happen quicker than they normally would.

SECRET SHAME: It's not so secret that Zephyr's real name is Bree Smith, but she does secretly hate the moniker. She's been referred to as her stage name since she was about six and created the alter ego; it was originally the name of a superhero she pretended to be and her older brother calls her Zippy.

WORST HABIT: Smokes like a chimney, even during shows.
