biography
Life growing up for Garrett was nothing too special. He was born in Hoboken, NJ but raised in Boston. His parents – Liam and Michelle - were what most would consider “normal”; his father taught guitar lessons at a local music store and his mother was the drama teacher for a near-by high school. It was a new job offer for his mother that landed them in Massachusetts when Garrett was only three. Everything was simple. He grew up in a suburban neighborhood, went to public schooling, kept the majority of the same friends from elementary school all the way to high school graduation. Though his circle of friends had expanded by the time freshman year rolled around – some friends ended up going to school in a different district, the one his mother taught in. So he was forced to branch out, to meet new people. But that had never been much of a problem for Garrett. Not generally a shy sort of fellow, he was quick to chat up anyone who caught his interest. Sometimes it didn’t work out, and that was fine with him. He understood from an early age that not everyone was going to like and get along with everyone else. Besides, the friends that he had made were just fine with him. Everything else was icing on the cake, as it were.

It was post-graduation that made Garrett finally realize there was a world outside of his neck of Boston. Going to New York City had always been a dream, and a rather easily attainable one at that considering it wasn’t that far away, but he’d never imagined actually living there. Not until his 21st birthday had rolled around, anyway. Garrett had been perfectly content staying in Boston. He loved it there, it was home to him, it was where his friends were. Not to mention he was taking bullshit classes at the local community college and seemed to have a pretty steady, albeit small, fanbase for his solo music that he managed to book gigs for every now and then. That’s how he spent his time after high school. Writing music, performing music, breathing music, and living music (thanks for teaching me the guitar, dad). Needless to say, getting out of Boston for trips to the city weren’t much of an option – no time and no money, really. Plus there was the fact that generally, he was just a laid back kind of guy. He enjoyed going out and doing things, sure. What kid his age didn’t? But it was never a priority. He was certainly just as happy being at home with his guitar and his records, if not more so. Though that’s not to say he didn’t have a wild streak in him.

But it was that fateful 21st birthday that changed everything. With his friends home from school for the summer, they’d all decided to steal Garrett away for a few days of wreaking havoc on New York City’s streets. He’d tried to get out of it, say that he didn’t have the money. He couldn’t afford to do something like that. The city was so expensive, you know? But the trip happened anyway and it was then and there that New York stole Garrett’s heart. They roamed around Manhattan, went downtown to the East Village area, saw shows, and drank plenty. The thriving, live music scene is what pulled at his heart though. Maybe, just maybe he’d have a chance at making something of himself. People back home seemed to like his folky, indie music well enough. Perhaps there was something for him here, too.

It was with that in mind that upon returning home, he dropped his classes and found himself working two part-time jobs to save up enough money to make the fateful move. It took a couple of years, but he made it happen. Despite the occasional trip home to see his parents and any friends that remained in the area, for the most part, Garrett hasn’t looked back since. New York offered him a chance at a new, slightly more exciting life and it’s one he’s certainly loving so far.
