personality
When someone first meets Ava their opinion of her would be drastically different depending upon where it was that they were introduced. When in the work place she be described as very work-oriented, possibly too much so, a perfectionist and a bit of a neat freak. She is smart, talented and has a good head on her shoulders; but those are qualities that one would see whether they were at her place of employment or hanging out with her on the couch at her home in Dobbs Ferry.
When not at work with those close to her Ava is still has the stubborn attitude of a Taurus but she isn't as frigid. It isn't often people end up seeing that side of her, though, due to the fact that most people only see the work side of her.

Biography
|
As a little girl Ava lived the life of any other little girl growing up in Scarsdale, New York lived. She grew up in a big house with a big yard that was gated off from the rest of the world. However one thing was very different from everyone else in the village of Scarsdale. Scarsdale, known for being a very white town and even more-so a very Jewish town wasn't exactly the prime place for a young black-hispanic girl who happened to be Catholic as well. The neighbors weren't exactly fond of the Castillo family when the young couple with their infant daughter moved into the expensive house.
It had become apparent even in Kindergarten that the Scarsdale school district wasn't welcoming of the Castillo family and half way through the year Ava was transferred out to attend the Immaculate Heart of Mary school. The Catholic school wasn't exactly that much different than the school district itself due to the school still being in Scarsdale but Ava was accepted by her classmates as well as by her teachers. Ava was a quiet child in her elementary school years. She did her homework as she was told and made sure to listen to her teachers. School came easily to Ava, possibly too easy if that was at all possible and after the completion of the eighth grade Ava attended The Ursuline School in New Rochelle.
Mommy's little angel and daddy's little princess; that was the story of Ava's life. Growing up the young girl was spoiled, but not in the way that most children end up being spoiled. Materialistic things were abundant but what Ava was spoiled with was opportunity. Tutors if she needed them. Trips to enhance her educational curriculum. The best instructors in any lessons she began to take. Ava was blinded to the real world and how some people lived around her; blinded by a passion that she had embraced at the youngest possible age for it; ballet. Poised and agile, athletic and graceful. Dance masked everything that was going on around her because nothing else truly mattered. She was cutthroat in the world of ballet and she wanted nothing more than to be the top ballerina and nothing was going to get in her way. Nothing until Ava wasn't able to dance anymore, that is.
In her senior year of high school, after being accepted into Julliard's ballet program, Ava was hurt in a car crash that ended up changing her life. Her boyfriend wasn't drunk when he got behind the wheel of his little red sports car that Friday night, he hadn't even been drinking, but the idea of having the fastest car on the highway was just as bad. Ava had never been a fan of racing and when her boyfriend sped up and weaved around the bends of the Bronx River Parkway she pleaded for him to slow down. The roads were slick with ice but even the mere mention of black ice was enough to have him pressing further on the accelerator. Going south just passed the exit for the village of Scarsdale, not quite to the light by the old stone bridge, the S-curves had slicked over with ice. When the car skidded on the ice and spun out of control Ava could only scream. Her scream was muffled by the sound of metal against metal and the world went black.
Three days went by after the extensive surgeries to repair the damage from the accident and when Ava woke up part of her wished that she hadn't. The damage that had been done to her right leg wasn't enough to leave her permanently disabled but in her mind that was certainly a better alternative. Being able to walk but not being able to dance was like torture for the young woman who had planned her whole life out around her passion for ballet. Her future was shot, or so she thought, but with her younger sisters sitting beside her hospital bed she knew that giving up wasn't an option and that she had to persevere in some way for them. Ava seems fine physically after the accident but when the weather changes a bit she can often feel stiffness in her muscles and in her knee and ankle where there are pins in place.
Ava finished school on time, having had tutors finish off the school year with her and the following fall she attended New York University. Ava wasn't sure at first what she wanted to do but with a little bit of a push from her father she was given motivation to work toward his chosen career path. Ava engrossed herself in her studies. Now that she wasn't able to dance she needed to put her determination into something else. Advertising was her new focus and upon graduating she was given a position at the firm that her father had started out in when he first completed school as well. Her father had worked his way up in the company to a partner and he hoped that his daughter would follow in his footsteps... So far. So good.

quick facts
••• Was named Avalon due to her mother's love for mythology and legends; especially the stories of King Arthur but most people simply call her Ava.
••• Is a Taurus and her stubbornness only proves just how much your zodiac sign can be accurate in its description.
••• Her favorite movie is My Fair Lady because of the inner romantic in her. Her parents met when they were both going to the closing show of it on Broadway in February '77.
••• Has a somewhat bitter sibling rivalry with her younger brother, Antoine, stemming back to when they were children and her parents compared his grades to hers constantly. It only furthered into adulthood when their parents compared her doing well in her career to his lack of one.
••• Her two younger sisters are her best friends and she confides in them more than she does any other family members.
••• Considers herself an equal opportunist when it comes to relationships. She has dated both men and women and does not limit herself to who she will or will not date.
••• Every Christmas Eve she watches The Family Stone, Thomas Kinkade's The Christmas Cottage, A Year Without A Santa Claus and Little Women... Just because. Christmas is her favorite holiday and she goes all out for those close to her.
••• Her parents have a tendency to pester her about settling down and having a family. Also something that feeds the rivalry between her and her brother... He has three kids and got married straight out of college.
••• Refuses to drive anywhere at night when the temperature is below freezing. The accident has left a lasting impression on her and even though she wasn't driving she is scared of crashing.
••• Though she loved ballet and it was her passion she doesn't frequent the stage. It only reminds her of what she wanted to do but is no longer able to do.
••• Ava is currently a head of a team in the advertising firm that she works for. Her father being a partner had nothing to do with her promotion, though. He had decided to have no say in what his daughter did within the company.

• Audra Castillo (b. 1985)
• Ariana Castillo (b. 1989)

The story of Carlos Castillo and his younger girlfriend Daniella Diaz started out just like most romance stories complete with the disapproving parents and the triumphs and tribulations one would read about in a romance novel. When Daniella met Carlos she was only a freshman in college. She was young, impressionable but very smart. Carlos, on the other hand, was already out of graduate school and working in New York City at a rather prominent advertising firm; finding his way through the ranks and hoping to make a name for himself within the company. Daniella and Carlos met by chance in what Hollywood would call a meet cute scenario and when they told people how they met it almost seemed as if they were taking their life straight from a movie script.
The rain pouring down on that cold February evening was turning to snow and while Daniella stood just outside of Grand Central Station ready to hail a cab she didn't think she would ever get one. Carlos had been waiting some time as well for his taxi and when one finally pulled up to him at the corner he caught sight of the young girl in a somewhat fancy dress getting soaked from the rain and her lack of umbrella. Not many men shared Carlos's sense of chivalry and when he offered to not only share his cab with her, but to pay for the fare as well, Daniella was certainly surprised. After a moment of contemplation and realizing he had a very kind face Daniella accepted his offer. As it turned out the two of them were both going to see the last performance of My Fair Lady on Broadway and meeting their party there. When the show let out it was a surprise to Daniella that she bumped into Carlos again. Phone numbers were exchanged and that was the start of it all.
Day after day and week after week passed them by and as their relationship progressed Daniella's parents grew more disapproving of the young man that had caught their daughter's eye. Daniella was the first of the Diaz family to go to college and when they saw how smitten she was with the older boyfriend of hers they couldn't help but wonder if the relationship would affect her schooling. Daniella insisted that things would be fine and that her school work wouldn't suffer. She even went as far as to insist that her grades were getting better because she was hoping to impress Carlos. Everything was going perfectly well until about seven months into their relationship. Daniella becoming pregnant wasn't part of her plan to win her parents over where Carlos was concerned.
A panicking young Daniella wasn't sure how to tell her parents what had happened. In fact she wished she could make everything go away and wake up from the apparent nightmare that her life had become. She wasn't ready to be a mother and she wasn't exactly sure that Carlos was ready to be a father either. Hiding the pregnancy, at first, seemed like a good option but as her belly started getting bigger hiding things wasn't an option. Daniella and Carlos married after finally breaking the pregnancy news to her family.
In the wee hours of the morning on the tenth of May, 1978, Avalon Malia Castillo was born. She was a quiet baby, to the point where the doctors at first thought something was wrong with her. Ava, as she was soon called, was healthy and both of her parents couldn't have been happier. Their little girl was now the most important part of their lives. Ava was the first of four and with each additional child the family grew not only bigger but happier as well.
