biography

It was front-page news in 1988 when rock musician James Monroe married TV starlet Jayde Lewis. His Jamaican-tinged vocal stylings were just beginning to get him noticed on a large scale and she had been in one of the biggest sitcoms of the 80's. When their daughter Ava Michele was born in 1989, it was another front-page cover story. Named after one of Jayde's favorite movie stars, Ava quickly became the apple of her parents' eyes. Although their marriage did not last for more than two years, they remained devoted to little Ava. Growing up, she had anything she wanted. Her parents wanted to keep her somewhat sheltered from prying eyes, but Ava wanted it - she saw her dad performing and getting photographed and she wanted it, too. Ava lived with Jayde until she was 8 and then she moved in with her dad. Jayde's behavior had turned a little eccentric and James was worried for Ava's well being. To placate his daughter, he allowed her to start modeling. She signed a deal for GAP Kids at the age of 9 and has worked ever since.

Ava grew up singing with her dad and thus picked up on the Jamaican lilt in his voice - but really only while singing. She signed a deal at the age of thirteen through her dad's connections. Getting her deal through her dad's connections made her extremely self-conscious of her famous parents and she dropped her last name to just go by her first and middle names - Ava Michele. Under the guidance of super star Jay-Z, Ava release her first album, Music of the Sun in 2005. Inspired by her father's Jamaican heritage, the music reflected the music she grew up listening to and loving. Ava's record label convinced her that she needed to rush out another album, so a year later A Girl Like Me was released. It spawned some moderate hits, such as S.O.S. and Unfaithful. Good Girl Gone Bad, Ava's third CD, was released in 2007. Finally 18, Ava was ready to shed the good girl image that her parents had insisted on for her first two albums. She stepped up her costumes and wardrobe to include the more couture pieces she had long admired but never wore and wasn't afraid to speak her mind in interviews. This led to a lot of disconnect and strife with her parents, especially her mother who had become a born-again Christian with her second husband.

18 is an age where Ava considers herself a changed woman. Aside from asserting herself professionally, it was the first time in her life she acknowledged her bisexuality. She could no longer pretend that she didn't love beautiful women just as much as gorgeous men. It was also during this time she met him, the one who would change her life. They dated seriously for nearly two years when he was caught quite publicly by TMZ with another woman, multiple times. Ava was humiliated and wanted to crawl underneath her bed sheets and never come out, but then she realized that she had the power now - the power of the people. Her popularity soared like never before and people were incredibly interested in what she would do next.

What came next musically was Rated R, a collection of songs with a bit of a darker tone and feel to them. It wasn't received well commercially but is you ask Ava, it's her favorite album. Her record label rush-released another CD, Loud. The music was still a bit more mature than anything before Rated R, but the overall feel was lighter and airier. This mimicked where Ava was in life - free of many burdens and finally in control of her life.

Ava considers acting a hobby, and one that she wishes she had more time for. Her first role was as Camille in Bring It On: All or Nothing, the third in the series. She then played a bit part in No Reservations and It's Kind of a Funny Story. Yelling to the Sky was her first featured role and premiered at SXSW in 2011 to good reviews. Ava's looking forward to taking some time off from music to work on films in the near future.

Ava currently lives in New York City. She remains close to her father, even with his misgivings about her career. She is cordial to her mother, mostly for the sake of her relationship with her two younger sisters.

personality

Ava's very impulsive and a bit hedonistic - she's led a privileged life and is used to having things go her way. She doesn't take much seriously at this point in her life, preferring to have fun first and think about it later. Her father and mother's disapproval of the way she dresses and her sometimes risqué behavior leads her to continue living her life the way she wants to. Her family and friends are extremely important to her. It's not easy for her to open up to people and make close connections, so the few friends she truly has she considers her friends for life. Ava has two younger half-sisters that, even given her strained relationship with her mother, she loves deeply.

Ava considers herself a lover not a fighter. She doesn't like to pick arguments although her temper can sometimes start them. She sees sexuality as fluid and is attracted to both men and women - although she doesn't publicly acknowledge this. She sees no problem with flings and hookups, as long as it feels right.

storylines

Nolan. He was the one who first truly captured her heart back in 2008. Their relationship was intense and passionate and Ava felt like she hadn't opened up to anyone before the way she opened up to him. TMZ published incriminating photos of him in early 2009 - photos that, to the naked eye, showed him publicly cheating on Ava. Devastated, she refused to talk to him and shut herself off from true intimacy. Although she won't admit it, she'll always love him and the two still talk on occasion - although Ava still wants to rip his head off from time to time.
