| biography.
Born in small town Lucky, Louisiana, Philip had a good life. Not necessarily easy, but good. He was surrounded by people that loved him, people that truly knew him for the bright boy he was. He was raised on tradition and family values. If asked, Ross would claim that he was a simple man with simple tastes. But, if you asked his mother, she would easily tell you that he was always the type of child that knew just how to get what he wanted. She loved to point out that he had inherited that trait from his father, but Ross never really knew his father. The man rarely came to visit them, and when he did, it was to see his mother. The real problem here was that Ross didn't know it at the time, but he was the child of an elicit affair that had been going on for years. His parents were never married and he never really thought anything of it. The only time he did was when his mother decided that one night, out of the blue, they were going to move up north. Why? He couldn't fathom. It made no sense to him. It seemed ridiculous. They had everything they could ever need here, and it was warm. Why do that when they were able to be a happy little family all this time? But, he did what he was told, though he did run his mouth the entire time. She was his mother, so what else was he to do?
Finding himself in Chicago, Illinois, of all the places in the world, he felt a little lost. This only became worse when he found out that his parents were suddenly deciding to marry and live in this strange place. Thankfully it was short lived. City life really wasn't his thing, even if he had been to a few of the larger cities like New Orleans, but he made due. At least his father had money, otherwise the place would have been a much more difficult sell. But for whatever reason, after a long affair, the man suddenly decided to marry his mother, which he later found out was because he divorced his previous one. So, Ross did what he had to do, sucked up his fate and found himself wanting to stay close to his mother just in case she was to be hurt by what he deems a 'sperm donor' of a father.
His paranoia deemed itself purposeful, and he was glad for it when his mother called him up one day during class. His 'father' was caught having 'lunch' with some twenty something blond in their home. Quickly moving back home, he found himself a little more relieved, though his mother seemed to have other plans. After having her heart broken, she made note of a obvious crush that her son had developed on a girl that was a close friend, and feared the worst. Keeping a close eye on the pair, she ended up sending him to boarding school telling him that she wanted the best for him. That she wanted more for him then what she had, and how could he argue with that? But as his mother hoped, boarding school turned into college, and while she missed him, she felt it was better this way, even as she watched the girl become closer to his brother.
Moving back to New York after graduation and committing to some business ventures, and after keeping in close contact with everyone back at home, Ross found himself awestruck when he received a certain reply. This girl that he had grown so close to, that his mother had kept him away from, told him of how she was engaged to his brother, and how she was sorry. Not knowing what to do, and not wanting to go home, he tried to cope in the best way that he could, but that included a lot of drinking and excuses to his family as to what the hold up was. After a few weeks he finally picked himself up and dealt with his pain in his own way which was really just bottling it up. Heading back home, he tried to appear as normal as he could, but there was only so much of that he could handle as well. Ross was completely unable to stick around for the wedding though. Instead, he decided to go on a last minute trip, only telling those closest to him good-bye the night that he left.
Somehow, Ross ended up in North Carolina with what little money he did have at the time. Sitting in a little cafe, he heard a man gripping about this shop that he owned not far down the street and found himself easily getting into a conversation with him about proper accounting as well as advertising. This conversation quickly led to him getting a job and a temporary place to stay while he got on his feet. As fall approached though, Ross thought about going back to school, which, while that meant more student loans, that gave him a chance to have a little more cash, and to be able to get a far better job than what he had now. Ross never really cared for business, being that is what his father did for a living, and while it was something that he was good at, he never fully found himself wanting to do that for the rest of his life. He wanted to try something else, to do something else with his life. Something that made a difference to him. So going back to school would definitely do him some good.
