BIOGRAPHY.
July 6th was a day that several celebrities were born. Janet Leigh. George W. Bush. Sylvester Stallone. 50 Cent. And of course, there were tons of less noticable births on that day, of normal, average, everyday people. One of those people is Devonee Faye Hawthorne, born on that day in 1987 to Carly and Ray Hawthorne. She was the third and last child, and the only girl. She was a pretty good baby. Of course she cried when she was hungry or needed to be changed, all of the reasons that were normal for a kid to cry about, but compared to her brothers, she was an excellent baby to leave that last impression of what the younger years of raising a child were like.
The Hawthornes raised their three children in Chicago, Illinois. Carly was a florist, and Ray was a physical education teacher at the local high school. You can bet that he started instilling the rules and techniques of various kinds of sports. Her two brothers naturally loved it, and they liked to drag Devonee out to play with them, essentially to be a punching bag to gang up on, but soon enough, she started to get to the point where she could fight back and wrestle around with them. She even got to the point where she was a pretty even match for the two of them, and she posed a challenge to them whenever they played most things. Her brothers would constantly play video games, on the various consoles, and Devonee found that she was particularly good at these. When her brothers were out doing something else, she would sneak in their room and play. Then they would be pretty damn shocked when they would ask her to play with them, and she could wipe the floor with the both of them.
In grade school, Devonee was the cheerful, yet slightly quiet girl. She loved to make friends and talk to people, but she also didn't feel exactly comfortable with walking up to someone and just striking up a conversation. She didn't get into too much trouble, and she did as she was told, and made decent grades. During her high school years, she was certainly pressured to drink or delve into drugs by her peers. She was never particularly popular, but she was friends with a few of the more popular kids that she played soccer and softball with. She delved into a bit of underage drinking, but soon decided that it wasn't her. She also had a few guy friends that she had a crush on here and there, but nothing ever came to fruition. They either saw her as more of a little sister type, or as someone that was just too nice. On the other hand, some also took her shy nature as snobbishness, and didn't think to learn more about her beyond their assumptions.
For a while, Devonee wanted to do something with video games. After graduating high school, she started work as a video game tester to pay for college bills. After a year, she decided that she wanted to do something more grown up. She always loved kids, and had her father's patience, so she decided to start working towards a degree that would help her with primary education. She decided to get a job at a local daycare as well to make money as well as get a little more hands on experience. She moved into her first apartment, taking her first step towards being independent. She still wasn't far away from her parents, but she made and effort to do things on her own. She finally experienced her first kiss in college as well, but nothing really came of the relationship. She never could seem to hold a guy's interest, and never really understood why. Instead of concentrating on boys, she concentrated more on her schooling though, and earned above average grades.
By the age of 22, she became a substitute teacher with the local school district. She had the occasional kid that acted up, the kind that she likes to say just needs special attention, and she still wasn't phased. She'd already been prepared by observing her father and how he dealt with his kids. She manages to grow a little bit of a backbone when it's needed, and after two years, there was an opening for a kindergarten teacher that she gladly took. She had previously kicked around the idea of moving to a different city, but decided to stay in Chicago. She didn't want to pass up the job, and she couldn't bring herself to move too far away from her loved ones.
These days, she just works and works some more, and stays to herself otherwise. She's happy with her job, and wants to be a role model for younger children. She still has never had a boyfriend, but she's beginning to come to terms with that. She doesn't need a guy to be happy. Right now, she just wants to learn how to be a little more independent, and come out of her shell a little more.
