Bright Water Mermaids prefer to live in the shallows of clear, shallow, water and prefer warmer temperatures. Dark Water Mermaids prefer to live in the dark, murky depths of the ocean and are better suited for cooler temperatures.☼ May be of any gender.
☼ Have fish tails of any color and type imaginable and possess webbed fingers and gills in their mermaid form. In Human form only their toes are webbed, and they possess small hashmarks behind their ears to represent gills.
☼ Have the ability to control and manipulate water.
☼ Can influence Humans with the sound of their voice.
Bright Water Mermaids’ songs can cause relaxation, calm and a sense of wellbeing while Dark Water Mermaids’ screeches can cause light-headedness, anxiety, and pain.☼ May switch between their Mermaid form and Human form at will.
☼ Must bathe in natural salt water every five days; failure to do so causes them to dry out and suffocate and will die within two days.
☼ Can imbue water with magical properties.
Bright Water Mermaids can turn it into healing elixir while Dark Water Mermaids can turn it into dangerous poison.☼ Secrete protective serums if they are threatened or in danger.
These serums can be secreted through spit or sweat, and they are a natural deterrent to predators. Bright Water Mermaids secrete a poison that causes fatigue and sleep while Dark Water Mermaids secrete a poison that causes loss of motor control and paralysis. The duration of these poisons depend upon how much an assailant is exposed to.☼ Are particularly weak against fire and electricity, both natural and magical, and tend to be afraid of blazes and thunderstorms.
☼ Have a lifespan of 100 years maximum and age at about the same rate as Human beings.
☼ Can be killed by anything that can kill a Human.
