Empathy - "Empaths have the ability to feel the emotions of those around them, and in some cases they can affect the moods of others with their own emotions. " In Mirren's case, she has the ability to force her moods when they become overwhelming onto those around her. Her abilities become stronger the more connected she feels to a person. However, whether she feels strongly connected or not, she is highly tuned on picking up on others emotions. The closer she feels to your character, the more this is amplified.

In the simplest terms, in the most basic of explanations, Mirren is a somewhat troubling girl. With emotions ranging from highs to lows, the variations located between are where her mind seems constantly lost. When she was very young, Mirren learned that the emotions and feelings of those around her were tangible things that she could feel being pressed against her. Their pain became like small knives being bore through her skin, while their joy was capable of becoming blinding regardless of her own personal situation. While on the other hand, and perhaps far more concerning, when her own emotions were able to reach a peaking point she could cause a similar effect on those around her.

And while Mirren’s connection to emotions does not fully describe the troubling depth of her personality, it is important to understand. Due to her abilities, it became a struggle for Mirren to make solid connections in her life, and therefore a certain set of phobias and habits began to develop within her one right after the other. While she was not without friends, there were very few who were willing to be there for her when she needed them the most in an effort to avoid feeling her pain as she felt it.

For the vast majority of the time that Mirren was in High School, she was considered strange, at times even dangerous. Teenagers are often unable to control their emotions – And while Mirren had her own emotions to try and swallow she was already taking on a classroom at a time. It wasn’t fair, in so many ways. At the time, she’d wanted nothing to do with the empathy that she was going through, it was a punishment; it was a tormentor, an oddity and a burden.

Of course, Mirren’s parents knew what she was going through. They wanted her to see what she had in front of her as something special and unique – As a gift. But in Mirren’s young mind, she was no better than the supernaturals that so many practiced prejudice against. And so while she was no demon or vampire, Mirren would suffer the same at the hands of her cruel and unforgiving peers.

People – Normal people weren’t supposed to be able to pick up on the emotions of those around them.

This was not intuition, or a good listener, Mirren felt them regardless of whether they gave them two seconds of their day if their emotions were heightened enough and through High School it seemed that everyone’s emotions were on overdrive. Hormones quickly became the bane of her existence.

But while the school’s hormones took on a personality of their own, those combated with Mirren’s hurt and anger of being looked down upon added a new twist to the graduating class. When her own emotions became too strong, those were the emotions that she sent out to those around her – Often without meaning to do so. It took Mirren nearly until her graduating day to begin to learn some type of control on her emotions.

Over time, it became necessary to set up a set of blocks that would allow her to slow the onslaught or stop it all together on occasion, but when the emotions became too much, if something was capable of shutting down a persons ability to function -- Those were emotions that she could not block, those were feelings that she could not slow.

And while there was an overwhelming side of angst that developed through High School and her parent’s insistent nature of sending her to a public school, it was not without it’s benefits. With certain small groups of friends, Mirren was able to develop quite a few binding friendships as well as some enemies she would never forget.

After school, Mirren took her grades with her when she applied for a position at an herbalist store. It allowed her to treat her own anxieties that had developed into small ticks and habits through her education as well as to increase her knowledge of plant life – A growing interest. Today she stands at twenty five, still talking within the small group of those she knows, of those she is comfortable with and still dealing with those overwhelming emotions that can overpower the blocks and checks she’s set in place for herself over the years.
