Finley Alexander McCann was born to William and Melissa McCann on a chilly Decemember morning in 1982. William and Melissa both came from old money, their family's both wealthy as far back as anyone could remember, but they didn't raise their children as if they had an abundance of cash at their disposal. They lived in an upper class neighborhood in Fairfax Virginia, but despite the fact that most of the children in the area had nannys, Melissa and William were adamant about being a huge part of their children's lives and parenting them properly. William's parents had always been absent while he'd been growing up, and so it quickly grew important to him to be a good, dependable father for his own kids. Melissa, while having her snobby teenager years, blossomed into a lovely young woman who had a big heart. The pair were a match made in heaven.

Finn was child number four of five. His older brothers, (Logan and Holden), and his older sister Amelia were both extremly protective of him. Holden and Logan were all boy: Skinned knees, climbing trees, fishing, riding dirt bikes, and splashing in the mud. Being the only girl, Amelia was quite the tomboy. Finn was a little more delicate. He was shy, and while he could be himself with his family, he had trouble connecting to other people. He wasn't the best looking kid, and was a little awkward looking. He'd rather read books or spend his time playing piano or the violin. Other kids liked to push him around and tease him because he was a bit of a nerd, but his older siblings always took up for him and defended him. Even if they all squabbled and fought with one another, they were family and they stuck together. No one could tease them except each other. When Josiah came along, Finley was five years old. It was both nice to have a little brother and sad to not be the "baby" of the family anymore. Still, Finn tried to be a good older sibling, and he was protective of Josiah from the word go even if he didn't quite get it right all of the time. Despite the age difference, the pair were inseparable. Josiah was a lot like Finn, and it was nice to have someone around who Finn could teach and take under his wing. Family life for the McCann's was a happy one. They went on family vacations every summer, and then for the rest of the summer they stayed with their Grandparents from Melissa's side of the family in Austin, Texas. Spending every summer and most Christmases there made it like a second home for Finn, and just like home Finn got teased relentlessly. That was how he met a boy who would turn out to be one of his closest friends. The boy stuck up for him, and taught the bullies a lesson. From that moment on, the two were inseparable every summer and Christmas holiday. As they grew older, phone calls, emails, instant messages, and texts allowed their friendship to flourish.

When Finn was eleven years old, his entire world changed. His younger brother Josiah disappeared while walking home from school. At first, everyone had high hopes that he'd be found. It seemed as though the entire town was looking for him and set on finding him. Unfortunately, he was never found. The family was devastated, and Finn didn't know how to cope with the loss of someone so important to him at such a young age. Four years later, his mother passed away, and while for a long time Finn was led to believe it was due to an illness, she'd really taken her own life. His sister Amelia thinks it was due to a broken heart. It was a hard time for everyone, especially Finn, and so his father moved the family to Austin for some stability and support. Finn spent his freshman and sophomore year of high school in Austin, Texas., and during his junior year his father decided it was time to head back to Virginia.

High school seemed to pass in a blur, and Finn lost himself in music. It was his passion, something he'd always loved and been good at. He started to figure out who was as a person, and break out of his shell. After graduation, he went to college to get his degree in music. Never being the type of guy to be a band, he opted for something he felt was even better - teaching. It didn't take long for him to decide to move to Austin, his second home. Settling into a nice apartment, a wonderful job, and in the town where his best friend lived was the best choice he could have made.
