PROFILE

PERSONALITY
Nolan is a very anti-altruistic character. He regards himself before others in a heartbeat and thus finds it easier to be alone rather than in a group setting. He is your run of the mill leap without a moments notice or thought type and will not look back once his plans are put into action. He doesn't make excuses nor does he apologize. He is also very deadpan; smiles little belieing his true intentions.

Nolan is a man of texture. He likes leathers, wools, silks and denim. It's easy to find him in any of these fabrics dawned with cuffs, chains and, sometimes rings. He has few markings on his body sans the stylized tattoo of a wolf on his right wrist. His dirty blond hair is usually mussed and during the first phases of his shift becomes a bright platinum, while the cool blue-gray eyes that brighten his face are typically hidden beneath his furrowed thinking brow.

BIOGRAPHY
Hughes de Payns was a French knight from the Champagne region and also the co-founder and first Grand Master of the Knights Templar. It was speculated that during the time of the Crusades Hughes had defiled and dishonored the name of the Knights by conferring with devil magic; using spells and dealing with the occult. He was by no means a witch or warlock, nor did such a tie to magic run through his veins... which made his dealings with dark magic that much more dangerous. And of course the price of his actions that much more great.

During that time it was considered treacherous to confer with such things and he was sentenced to death for his supposed crimes against God. Ultimately, however, he would not be the only one to suffer a punishment for his heresy. A curse was what he had laid upon his lineage, by the time Nicodéme was born several centuries later it had become little more than mere myth, only whispers. Bedtime tales from father to son of perseverance, and evil, and the effect of doubt in God. All myths have some truth to them, however, though most of his countrymen dismissed the accidental deaths of the males in Nicodéme's family, it was hard to find an excuse for the missing bodies thereafter.

On the 12th day of the 11th month, an icy day in Valage, France, Nicodéme was born; a very great grandson of his ancester Hughes de Payns. Several days later his mother died from the complications of his birth and he was later raised by his Aunt, after his fathers disappearance when he turned 3. He was a very quiet and thoughtful youth, had very little to say to anyone and didn't smile often. At 7 years old his Aunt had him set to work at a Chateau only a few miles from his family home, he assisted the women in the kitchens and any other jobs he could fill. The 10 years to follow were good to Nicodéme, his hard work paid off and he kept his job through the various hardships of the time.

During his years of servitude he fell in love with one of the maids who worked with him at the Chateau and their engagement was eventual. It wasn't long before they were married and then with child. By the time he was 19 Nicodéme had a very comfortable life for the time, his own home, his son growing healthy and strong and his wife, beautiful and fair.

On the 12th day of the 11th month the very year Nicodéme turned 20 he was found amongst the vegetable patches out-lying his home. Locals attributed his death to the recent sightings of hungry wolves known to terrorize the province during the winter months for food. It was just hours before his burial that his body went missing.

Upon waking, his first thought was that he had been hit with a rock and perhaps robbed or held for some sort of ransom. Though he didn't have very much to spare, he tried to be reasonable and explain away his confusion. His surroundings were unknown, and his wife and child were no where to be found. Yet none of that could explain the bandage about his throat or the dangerous hunger that threatened to rip him from the inside out. It was his father who explained to him the curse laid upon them by their ancestor; Hugues had sought immortality and in his desperate quest he had made a pact with an elder warlock in exchange for eternal servitude. The pact backfired when Hughes died before his end of the bargain was met. Thus the sins of the father... and so on. Despair fueled him, and Nicodéme sought his old life, what he found pushed him to the edges of fury. His wife had betrayed him; replaced him. And his child, a boy now 5 years of age had no knowledge of him. Madness at the prospect that his son would be doomed to meet his fate he killed the boy and devoured his wife and her lover. Doing what none of his ancestors could; ending the curse with himself.

For the next 15 years he was fueled by only pain and rage. He hunted, attacked, and maimed human strangers, vampires... for a time he thought himself capable of overtaking his own kind. His father did his best to reel him in, he would follow and intercede. Usually cleaning up whatever messes Nicodéme had left for others to find and fear. In the early 80's his father had had enough and would no longer tolerate his sons callous violence. The two became locked in a violent skirmish and Nicodéme was not the victor. He sent him to America with a new set of papers, a new name and a thoroughly bruised ego.

Since, Nolan has resided in several parts of the country, New York, Florida, Texas and finally California. Though, he has been prone to a bit of vandalism and mischief he lives in and abides by the laws of a more modern and tolerant world. While there are still moments when he gets restless and wishes to put his learned skills to some troublesome use, he typically focuses that energy into cooking or drinking. He currently works at Redwood Restaurant in Los Angeles, as head chef.
