Biography

Ethan Harker was surrounded by women. His mother Linda and her partner Theo(dora) had been together for five years before they first decided to have kids, and out of the four they had through artificial insemination, Ethan was the only male. A middle child, with only a year or so between each of the children, he wasn't spared in the least in regards to anything and everything estrogen related.

For the most part, his upbringing was typical to anywhere else, with a few blips occurring as his mothers were kicked out of the PTA for bringing desserts that were deemed too similar to portions of the female anatomy for consumption. His sisters ragged on him regularly, but were smart enough to his ready ability to stand up for his own rights as sole male in the household to avoid adding him to their games with dolls or playing dress-up, though often demanded he be Prince Charming if their friends came over and wanted to play fairy tales. Though he'd never admit it, it was this early induction into the world of make believe that eventually led to him becoming a historical romance novelist.

His grades in school were average, with high marks in English and low in Science; though he tried out for the school play, he was relieved when he was banished to behind the scenes work. Toward the end of junior high, settling in with a small group of other guys who didn't quite fit into any of the cliques that abounded, he decided that he had higher aspirations than beginning to plan and build up his GPA for school, or the SATs. He decided he wanted to do something musical. Most of the other artistic bents were taken by his sisters, but music was an untouched area, one which none of them had really played with. Signing up for guitar lessons, he started chipping away at his friends' arguments against it, and they eventually became Chump Change.

When graduation time came around, most of his pals applied at and were accepted into Roanoke College, but Ethan refused, instead spending his days working at a local bookstore and his nights strumming on the guitar and putting pen to paper, less for lyrical genius, and more to quell the erotic imagery he had that had grown by the ton as he'd gotten older, and the games of fairy tales never really seemed to stop, leading to Prince Charming and Princess Leila (the girl down the street) making out and getting their retainers stuck together behind the rose bushes in the backyard. Most of what he'd scribbled in his teen years was barely worth lining his sisters hamster cages, but some of the basic ideas had merit, and by the time he was twenty, he was on his third draft for one of them, which later became Merely Magic.

He sent the novel around to several different agents and publishers before finally getting picked up by Signet in 2000 with a six book deal. The first few years went by well, without much of a hitch, but toward the end of spring in '07, when he was doing his last edits for Tempting, he started to realize that he didn't have many more ideas. His imagination felt dried up. For a while, he questioned if whether or not he was just a fifteen minutes of fame kind of guy, but determined to finish out at least the book deal, he struggled on for another few months before finally agreeing, at least with himself, that he needed a break.

Making a deal with Signet, to extend the time limit on his contract, he talked his band (who'd only been playing a few local gigs here and there since high school) into actually taking themselves seriously. Though it took a lot of pep talks and promises of fame and glory which he couldn't really give, anyway, he finally managed to get them all to agree. Putting his own money down for the studio time, Chump Change managed to complete it's first EP by the new year, and while it went into mixing and production, began to record their first full length album. Now, with IOU out to decent reviews, though with small sales, they're working on promoting their upcoming album Incendiary Device, due out in mid May.
