PERSONALITY
To say quiet, softspoken Liam is something of a workaholic is an understatement. He throws himself into his job-- both adjunct teaching and psychotherapy-- with over the top effort, and is incredibly dedicated to what he does and the people he works with. Still, he's fantastic at it, therapy more than anything else, because he's compassionate and creates long lasting bonds with his clients. His students know they can turn to him for anything and everything, and are prone to emailing him not only with class questions, but with personal things in hopes his degree in psych counseling will allow him to talk them through issues.

Liam, at heart, is a worrier, and coupled with his occupation it can lead to some anxiety on his part. He dealt with panic attacks all through college due to his heavy workload, although currently they're quite well managed by medication and cognitive behavioral therapy (a bit ironic, that a psychologist would have anxiety issues.) He's a bookish sort of person, with a small library in his home full of vintage first editions and hard to find copies, and isn't big on partying; he's more the type to curl up in an armchair near the fireplace with some tea and a novel. He's one of those incredibly gentle people who wouldn't hurt a fly.

BIOGRAPHY
Born in Charleston, South Carolina, Liam had a childhood that was fairly unremarkable. He was close to his family, and nothing particularly tragic nor interesting happened, but really... he was fine with that. He was always an academic, putting hours into studying in high school to seal his spot as top of the class, and maintained the record through senior year. High school was also uneventful, save sophomore year when he came out to his family through an awkwardly written letter; why he expected negativity, he had no idea, but it was received as nothing terribly major and he settled comfortably back into his life again. He applied to several schools, whether they had an esteemed track in his chosen course of study or not, merely because they were Ivy League-- Harvard. Cornell. Yale.

He ended up at Boston University, a school he had applied to merely on a whim, disappointed and stumbling dramatically in his first semester because he had a terrible "Well, what does it matter now?" attitude. When he saw his records from that fall he nearly lost his mind; the GPA he was achieving was nothing close to what he considered even acceptable, and it kicked him into gear. He picked up a second major-- biology, in addition to his first of psychology-- and a minor of philosophy, setting himself on a path to his future career.

School was stressful for him, mostly because of the insane standards he liked to try to set for himself. Panic crept up on him, and he ended up being the sort of student who would get up and walk out to regroup in the hall in the middle of class. He placed phone calls home frequently, not to talk about the issue but to distract himself from it. This continued through his college experience, though finally he managed to get kind of a hold on things with a combination of cognitive behavioral therapy and daily medication.

Once he got everything better controlled, Liam went on to graduate summa cum laude from BU, with a psychology master's and a biology bachelor's. After much deliberation, he opted to stay in Boston, moving directly into supervised counseling at a local mental health center. Once he had completed his required hours, he began working up a customer base for private therapy-- soon he was building a practice, designating two unused rooms in his home for a waiting room and office. He ran studies, pulling several research grants over the years to study the effects of branding on society and domestic abuse statistics of male victims.

With psychiatry journals under his belt, Liam found himself wanting more, and that degree in biology was getting no use, so he headed for the local colleges-- he snagged himself an adjunct teaching job, running psychology and biology courses to fill up a lot of his morning schedule. He loved teaching, and finally worked out a career doing both that and psychotherapy. Currently, he's doing just that.
