PERSONALITY

 PERSONALITY
When people describe Lanie, they could use the words flirty, spunky, cheerful, fun, smart, practical, witty, and charming.

Lanie is a very big people person. She loves making friends and being around them. She has been this way ever since she was a baby. Her parents often described her as the perfect baby. Rarely did she cry and she always had a smile across her lips. Her parents would get compliments about how much of a perfect baby she was. When out at the grocery store other children would scream and be impatient while waiting in the line. Not Lanie. Lanie would be the one making faces to people to get them to laugh.

To this day, Lanie is always the one to start laughter within a group that she is in. She can't be around a group of people without being in a good mood. And rarely is it that Lanie is in a bad mood. She likes to see the positive things in life and hates it when people focus on the negative. One of Lanie's motto's is that "You only live once." After her summer trip she doesn't see the point in trying to be the prim and proper, sweet girl that everyone wants her to be. She wants to just be herself. That doesn't mean she's going to go break every rule there is, but she wants to have fun with her life while she can.

She's young, carefree and wants to live life to the fullest.

BACKGROUND INFO

By the time Delanie Charlotte made her way into this world on April 28th, the Rodriguez family had already welcomed two children into the family. Connor, the eldest and only boy to the Rodriguez name was a very mettlesome six year old boy. He had been excited to for his first sister, (blank) to be born. But when the boy was told he was going to be getting a second little sister, he couldn't hide his excitement and before Cheryl or Joseph could tell any of the closet friends, Conner had already ran around town alerting everyone. To say that the little boy was excited was an under statement.

From the moment Connor first laid eyes on Lanie, he knew that she was as perfect as can be. Which, of course didn't sit well with his other sister. She had been mommy's little girl and daddy's little helper and as the youngest child and only girl she had received most of the attention. An instant tension started between Lanie and her older sister. And through the years it has only grown into something worse. Connor on the other hand became this over protective big brother who made it his mission to seek out those who hurt his baby sister and teach them a lesson. In kindergarten, Connor watched as a little boy took toys from Lanie and push her in the sand box. That was the first time Lanie knew that Connor would always be there for her. She watched as Connor made that boy give her the toy back and then make him eat sand. Sure it was probably a little over board for just stealing a toy, but Lanie was proud of her big brother.

Through out the years that is the way things had been. Lanie became Daddy's little girl and although she had a close relationship with her mother, it was Daddy that she always ran to if something was bothering her. She learned at an early age that she wasn't able to keep anything a secret from her father. It was as if her father knew her better then herself.

Lanie did extremely well during her school years. Often out passing both her siblings with her grades. Her father would often say that she had gotten the brains of the family. Which only caused the rift between her and her sister to grow stronger. At an early age she didn't understand why her sister never wanted to do things with her or why when she asked to go places her sister would turn her down. She didn't understand either why her sister would join on the cruel teasing during high school either. It was as if she enjoyed being mean to Lanie. But as she grew, she learned to ignore it and just accept that her sister was the way she was.

Lanie's graduating high school was one of the high lights of Cheryl and Joseph's lives. It proved to them that they could get all children through high school. Although they hadn't worried too much about Lanie as much as they did about (blank), who seemed to be more into hanging out with friends and dating boys then Lanie was. Lanie was more focused and getting out of Nashville and seeing the world. Although, she only got half her wish. Her parents wanted her to stay in Tennessee and attend a college close by, but Lanie had gone behind her parent's back and filled out an application for the University of California and much to her delight she had gotten accepted.

Leaving Seattle, leaving her family was one of the hardest things Lanie thought she would ever have to do. She hadn't been away from Nashville for more then two weeks at a time. Which that was usually only hunting trips with her father or brother, but now she was actually leaving home. To live on her own. She was terrified.

Even though moving to California was one of the most terrifying choices in her life, it was also the most exciting. Attending the University of California-Berkeley for Psychology was a dream for her parents. But soon Lanie found herself not really enjoying the 'school' part of things.

Taking the summer off and traveling over California with friend is how she spent that summer. This is the time she had met a man named Jake. He was moody and broody and completely fascinating. She was instantly drawn to him and even though she knew that she drove him completely nuts she still hung around. It didn't take long before she got him to open up though and when he did the two of them became attached at the hip. Wherever Jake went Lanie was sure to follow. Instead of fighting it though, he embraced her company and it wasn't long before Lanie found herself falling for him. But things between them weren't easy in that sense and Lanie knew that she had to return to school and asking more from him wasn't the smartest of ideas. They ended up parting their way, after a night of bliss and even though she promised to call, text or email things just started to get in the way and she felt her attention being pulled elsewhere.

The following year was hard for Lanie. Her heart and soul was no longer into school and she found herself day dreaming of traveling, seeing the world and meeting new people. She knew dropping out wasn't an option, her parents would kill her. So instead of dropping out completely, she took the summer to return home to visit family in Arlington. She ended up staying in the city and getting her own apartment. Living alone for the first time was scary for her but she managed for the summer. Making friends within the city and even finding a special friend to be herself with. It didn't take her long to become attached but it still only lasted the summer and soon she was finding herself saying goodbye to him too.

With a head full the summer memories of ferris wheels and walks on the pier of Seattle she returned to California to try and make herself focus once more on school. Transferring to the University of Los Angeles helped and it put her closer to the beach. A place she once fell in love with.

It didn't take long for Lanie to wish for her summer memories once more. She had dreamed of her tan faced summer lover every night. They had said their goodbyes and that was that. Or so he thought. When he walked into the surf shop where she had taken up a job, she couldn't help but pounce on him. Wrapping her arms around him clinging so tightly that she didn't want to let go. He was in California to train and while he was training he wanted to spend more time with her. When Lanie found out that he would have to live in a hotel for a few months she rejected the idea and offered for him to stay with her. Soon the two picked up where they left off and it didn't take long for Lanie to feel herself falling again.

One day after another things seemed perfect. She was back at school, had a job and even had the man she loved back. But what she didn't know is that he didn't feel the same way she had. After a fight between the two about where their 'relationship' was going to go, she stopped talking to him for a few days. A few days he took to find comfort in another woman's arms. During the time she stopped talking to him, she realized quickly that she had missed a period. Lanie was in no way, ready to have a baby. Panic struck her and she ended up pushing him away when he came back to patch things up. But he wasn't the only one who she pushed away. She placed herself into a deep dark hole, afraid of what would happen if she was really pregnant.

Taking this as a sign that their friendship was over, he moved out of her house. Lanie was lost and confused and didn't know who to turn to. The only thing she could think of what if she was pregnant, she would end up ruining both of their lives. It took a lot of out her to ask him to talk. Once she had, everything came out onto the table in a puddle of tears. A test was taken and the results came out negative but the damage to her friendship was deep.

Both of them pulled away from each other. Lanie realized that she had wanted more from him, she had fallen so much in love with him that she didn't want him to just stick around because of a baby. And he made his choice a few months later to leave California for good. Without a goodbye or any closure, he was gone. Once again.

Lanie was lost and confused and utterly dumbfounded as to where to go next. But she knew she had to pick up the pieces of her broken heart. She threw herself into school and work. She turned to her friends for comfort and shoulders to cry on. It didn't take long for Lanie to realize that she deserved more then what he could give her. He was young, selfish and only wanted to have a good time. Lanie wanted more then that. She wanted a working relationship, she wanted someone to love her.

A month went by without any word and Lanie was starting to let him slip from her memory. She was hanging more and more with her friends, one in particular, Mason. She had met him once day by chance on a pier when he had just gotten into town the two of them just clicked. A few jokes were exchanged, then plans for hanging out and then movies nights. It became her job to education him in pop culture since he had been away in the army. She took the task to heart. Showing up at his door with an arm full of movies and snacks.

Halloween was her favorite time and she spent most of that time with Mason. Clinging to him inside of haunted houses and watching scary movies. Soon a small crush formed on him and she tried to not let herself jump in head first. Too afraid that history would repeat itself. He was invited on a hunting trip with her father and a family friend and that is where she made her first move. Being up in a tree stand in the cold caused them to huddle together for heat. As they watched an elk enter the clearing, she watched her dad aim and fire. And the moment it took him to pull the trigger, Lanie found her moment to lean over and kiss Mason.

Since then they seemed to be inseparable. More and more time was spent together and feelings were admitted. But it was Lanie who wanted to take things slow. Her heart was still mending from her previous heart break but she kept nothing from Mason. Telling him about the pregnancy scare and even her past before that. But no matter how much she told him, he never left.

Christmas is when things changed however, a conversation between the two of them gave way to what Lanie was to get him for Christmas. She had worked with the theater department to turn one of their dressing rooms into a fake winter wonderland for Mason. Being in California brought it's draw backs with it came to winter and she knew how much he missed the snow. That night, as they sat on a futon mattress in the middle of the room they spoke about how they felt towards each other again. Admitting that she was falling for him badly she made the decision to tell him that she wanted more. And more is what she got. They agreed to take things slow, but a real relationship is what they had started right then a there. She was his girlfriend and he was her boyfriend. Her first, honest to goodness, real boyfriend.

Christmas also brought the meeting of his family and Lanie fell in love with his mother right away. The two of them got along better then Lanie could have imagined. And as the New Year approached, Lanie was excited to travel to Maine to see where Mason grew up and to start a new chapter in her life, with him when they returned to LA.
