BIOGRAPHY Emmeline was born to Isabela and Matt Dallas during the summer of 1993. It could be seen as lucky and unlucky for Emmy to be the second born to the pair. Seeing as they already got their parenting worked out on their first child, Luke, they usually left Emmy up to her own devices. As a toddler they encouraged her to get into the messy things and sort of find her own way through her problems. Even as a small child she was the type to run before she could walk as she was always getting ahead of herself in some way or another. Emmy walked to the beat of her own drum, that much was for sure. In grade school she was a bit of a loner. She found herself more attracted to the people in her storybooks than to the kids in her school. The only people she really ever felt close to were her younger sister and older brother. They understood her.

It wasn’t until 8th grade that Em really started to come out of her shell. She found that the people she was drawn to were the type that didn’t really follow the rules. She was constantly getting into trouble for one thing or another – whether it be turning up late to class or skipping school entirely. Isabela and Matt tried to chalk it up to pure adolescent freedom of expression and simply being a middle child, but they knew they had a problem child on their hands. The only reason Emmy even tried in school was because if she didn’t make C’s or higher in her classes she wouldn’t be allowed to attend her swim team practices after school. Participating in swim team was the only thing Emmy really cared about.

After her twelfth birthday Emmy was expecting some sort of ability to manifest in her. Luke had found out about his ability just after his twelfth birthday, of course, so why wasn’t hers showing up? Was she a dud? Was she going to be like some sort of ability-less squib? The thoughts haunted her for almost an entire year. In July, just before her thirteenth birthday, Emmy realized her ability. One long afternoon of laps in the pool during swim practice she and some of the other girls on the swim team decided to have a breath holding conversation. Emmy loved these competitions because she always won. Everyone always joked with her that she had superhuman lungs when it came to holding her breath – and in a way, they were kind of right. That afternoon Emmy decided she was going to try to beat her record of 4 minutes and 12 seconds. She just wanted to get to4 minutes and 30 seconds and ended up far exceeding the goal. That day she learned she could breathe underwater and she was under for 7 minutes before the other girls pulled her up, afraid that she had started to drown.

With her ability finally manifested Emmy couldn’t have been happier. She was finally just like her older brother. Because her brother had an ability of his own, their parents also knew about it. When she got home that day she went and told her parents all about how her life got flipped turned upside down she was able to breathe underwater just as well as she could breathe oxygen. At first they seemed skeptical, but knowing what Luke could do they accepted it just like they would anything else with their kids. Most would hope that after Em finally had an ability to call her own that she’d start being a little bit more interested in school-work and extracurricular activities outside of swimming, but being in the water consumed her. All she wanted to do was take baths to practice and to wait for everyone to leave the pool so she could see just how long she could breathe underwater before it failed her. Even to this day she doesn’t know of any limitations of her ability. She’s tried breathing in saltwater, chlorinated water, and even in fresh water and each time she’s been fine. Her current longest time under water is three hours and sixteen minutes. She thinks she could go longer, but her skin starts to hurt from getting so wrinkled.

When Professor Knox approached the Dallas family for a second time to ask Emmy to join him at his academy Emmy just wanted to laugh at him. Sure, Wisconsin wasn’t the best place to live, but willingly moving to Wyoming seemed like she would be self-committing herself to a life of hell. The only thing that really persuaded her into attending the school was the fact that she’d be with kids who were like her – kids who had their own secrets and an ability of their own. She wanted to be able to share that part of herself with others – though, to this day, she still wouldn’t admit it.

RELATIONSHIPS Isabela and Matt Dallas: In a general sense Emmeline has always gotten along with her parents. She respects the fact that they’ve given her a lot of freedom from a young age and she wouldn’t do anything to ever hurt them. They’re both really open and honest people and she loves them a ton. They were the first people she told when her ability first manifested. Both Isabela and Matt are extremely supportive of all of Emmy’s goals.

Luke Dallas: Emmy’s older brother is one of the only people she really trusts. She still remembers when she was 10 years old and her brother showed her how he could freeze objects with his bare hands. It was the most incredible thing she’d ever seen. Ever since that moment she couldn’t wait to be able to do that herself. When she told Luke she could breathe underwater he was pumped to have her at the academy with him.

Josephine Dallas: Being just 13 months apart from her younger sister, Em has always been close to Jo. Most people would equate their relationship to something similar to what twins have. Out of everyone in the entire world Emmy is the most protective and loyal to Jo. If anything ever happened to her sister she wouldn’t know what she would do.

Tate Langdon: Emmy's cousin on her dad's side. Growing up the kids were all pretty close with each other. Em still feels really close to Tate, and all the Langdon boys in general. Em's entire family is out of control, and Tate definitely not an exception.

PERSONALITY
No one’s really sure why Emmeline has such a large emotional wall up. She’s never been hurt emotionally in a relationship, her parents never abused her, and she lived a pretty normal life in Wisconsin. Her parents treated her with respect and supported her and Em and her siblings never really had any sort of sibling rivalry going on. Emmy just had a sour disposition from the start. There’s only a few select people that Em doesn’t treat like shit immediately, and even the people she does like and care about she kind of is a bitch to. Emmeline simply doesn’t believe in sugar coating anything. If you don’t like something about her, she will happily tell you to fuck off and enjoy the rest of your miserable day. Sometimes she even enjoys raining on everyone else’s parades. When she’s in one of those moods she will go out of her way to do or say something to purposefully ruin your mood and day. She particularly loves to do this to people who are always cheery – those are the worst kinds of people.

When she isn’t being a shithead, she’s pretty manipulative. Sometimes these manipulations manifest themselves for personal reasons (such as getting help with school work or just for attention) or just to prove that she can do it. Emmy is also very driven when she wants something. She works really hard for the things she wants, and currently she really wants to make the 2016 Olympic swimming team. She devotes many hours a day to practicing. Emmy also loves her freedom and tries her hardest to avoid girls who are overly chatty. She typically gets along better with guys.

AQUATIC RESPIRATION
Description: The ability to breathe underwater.
Capability: The user can breathe in both water and air. The user’s lungs are lined with gill-like structures ready to take in water substituting it for oxygen. The use can stay underwater as long as they like, and reemerge ready to breathe oxygen again.
**: “I used to cheat in swim all the time before anyone realized what I was doing or what was going on. I feel like I should be able to use my ability to my advantage, and if that means I can have a room full of first place trophies and try to go to the Olympics, then fuck yeah I’m going to do it. I don’t even feel bad for cheating. I’m just using my God given talents to my advantage. I mean, is it technically cheating anyway? It’s not like geniuses have to be told not to study for exams or anything. Like, get off my dick. I don’t see anything wrong with it. But of course this fucking prison of a school, that supposedly is a perfect place for people like me, frowns upon my use of my ability in competitions. It’s fucked, really.”

When Emmy is particularly stressed out or under a lot of pressure she can usually be found in the pool. She uses the fact that people can’t stay under as long as she can to her advantage when she doesn’t want to be bothered by others.

***: Medium-level ability.
