Voice: Shirley Manson of GARBAGE Biography: Mari Nunn was born Marilyn Rose Blanc in London's borough of Chelsea. Her father a French immigrant who transported at the request of his English wife. Mari rarely speaks about her childhood, but what is known is the status of her two older brothers. In album notes, she has sent gratitude towards Theo and Angela Blanc but nothing has been spoken of them in interviews. The rocker's written history begins at age eighteen, where she was recorded as a regularly booked musician at a neighborhood pub. Marilyn appeared under her birth name with an acoustic guitar and a voice reminiscent of The Pretender's Crissy Hines. Her sultry lyrics captivated anyone interested in secrets from such a brash and dark young woman. One patron, however, changed her acoustic sound to a plugged-in electricity that ran throughout the world. Thomas Melnyk, now known popularly as Dexter, discovered her in that very same bar and after little persuasion, brought her back on a work visa to his native country of Canada. The first few years were spent at Dexter's side, playing the part of the ultimate groupie and supportive girlfriend. Marilyn created a new life in Vancouver. Her boyfriend's connections conjured new friends, a four-piece band, a record label and, of course, fans. With little time spent touring the bars of Vancouver, Arachne climbed into the hands of bigger labels with Melnyk's 3rd Exit as a springboard. After accepting Geffen's offer, Mari turned away from 3rd Exit in favor of the longevity of her relationship with Dexter. Unfortunate for both of them, they didn't make it past the sixth year. With the harsh separation came complete relocation and Arachne moved headquarters to Los Angeles. Mari may not have dealt with her break up as well as sanity allowed, but it did provide brilliant inspiration. In 2006, the band released their second album and first under their corporate label. Mari's side hobby of photography took over the album artwork and issued in more creative control over the band for its vocalist. Their first album awarded them greatest notoriety than the first and two Grammy nominations for a song obviously written about her separation from Melnyk. The band has been featured in numerous film soundtracks, commercials and hundreds of sold-out shows but there is always the same constant, Mari never appears alone. Black is a favored color, whether its from her extensive eye make up to her non-traditional dress. Smiles are rarely an accessory and this appearance has labeled her the nickname "The Black Widow". In February of this year, Arachne's 2008 release Tangled won the band a Grammy award for Best Rock Performance on the song "Stupid Girl".
