Interview with West Greene for Teen People.

Westley Greene, son of famed director Robert Greene, has always been a name to watch on our list. With one sister in the film industry and the other in music, we figured it was only a matter of time before Westley stepped up from television and the odd movie to really make a splash on screen. But no one expected it to be such a big one. As Edward Cullen in the much anticipated Twilight film, Westley has teenage girls everywhere baring their necks for him to take a bite. But how did he sink his teeth into the role? We caught up with Westley during promotion for the film to ask him a few questions.

Westley, thanks for taking time out of your busy day to meet with us. It sounds like they're keeping you on a grueling schedule.

It's West, and not a problem. That's what I'm here for, right? [Laughs.] Yeah, feels like I haven't slept in weeks, and we've still got a few weeks to go. I catch naps where I can. Luckily, I can sleep just about anywhere, at any time. Just put me in a chair and I'm good for a few hours. Pisses a few other people off, but what can I say? I've got good genetics. They provide.

Speaking of genetics, what was it like to work with your sister, Kailey?

It was more fun for me than for her, I'll tell you that. I'm a real pain in the ass on set. I like to get everyone laughing right before I slip into character, so I look like the professional one. It's the only chance I've got. Nah, it was a great time. I love my sister, don't mind being around her. It's fun to come onto a set and know someone that well, especially when I've been off of movie sets for a couple of years. Made things a lot more comfortable for me; I felt less like the new guy. And it meant there were plenty of people on set wanting to hear embarrassing stories, too.

And Juliet Evans is a close friend of yours, as well.

Yeah, I'm sure you've seen those pictures of me hanging around the Gossip Girl set. When it comes to Juliet, what more do I really need to say? I'm the president of her fan club. I took this project because of her. I really took it just to kiss her, but working with her wasn't so bad, either. [Laughs.] I can't think of anything that I've worked on that I enjoyed as much, and that's all because of her.

And Kailey.

So, all the fans want to know: are you two dating in real life?

Me and Kailey? That's incest, man. Not kosher. But if you're talking about Juliet, a gentleman doesn't kiss and tell. [He winks.] Not that I'm much of a gentleman, but I'm giving it a shot.

We hear you have more than enough female attention if you are still single.

I'd like to pretend that this is normal for me, but I don't think even I'm cocky enough to pull that off. Yeah, it's an experience. I have girls throwing themselves at me when I go out to get coffee in the morning. I've heard "bite me" so many times that I don't even blink anymore. That really gets on people's nerves when they're trying to tell you off, too. But as long as they're not getting in the way of my normal life, I don't mind it. There have been a couple of fans who got too crazy and too personal, but most seem to know that it's only okay at events. I am worried that I'll go deaf before we finish promo. [Laughs.] I want to tell some of these girls that they don't need to scream when I'm only a few feet away.

It doesn't sound like you mind it too much.

Not at all. I like the enthusiasm. It's kind of an entity in itself. As long as no one gets hurt, I like hearing about how into it the fans are.

Aren't you a little intimidated by that?

Oh yeah. I hadn't heard of the books before I went to audition, so I had no idea what I was getting into. I know now that I wasn't a popular choice for Edward, but at the time I was too busy getting ready to realize there was this whole online fanbase hating my guts. I think my good looks have finally won them over, but we'll see. Definitely a bit intimidating, though. You might see me running from the angry mob after this comes out. Hopefully not.

You just mentioned how you were too busy getting ready to realize the book's popularity. Did you do a lot of preparation, then?

I did some. I'm not a method actor or anything, so I don't have to completely immerse myself in that world. Once I get my character, it's not hard for me to switch in and out. I just have to understand him. For Edward, I had a copy of some of Twilight from his point of view [editor's note: this would be Midnight Sun] and I used that to help get inside his head. I did some research into the time period that he grew up in, but that's about it.

Was it a struggle for you to identify with a 107-year-old vampire?

Not at all. [Laughs.] And that's not just because I'm the perfect man, either. Nah, he might be an old man, but Edward isn't so different from any other teenager. It's a big point, actually, that nothing about him has changed since he became a vampire until he meets Bella, so you've got to figure that even after all this time, he's still a teenager. And we all remember what that was like. It does make me glad my dad made me finish high school, because you can't replicate that experience without living it. Personally, there wasn't anything about him that I couldn't identify with. Even the vampire aspects.. I'm a guy; I understand what all-consuming desire and need feel like.

So you've felt this yourself?

Oh yeah, all the time. I don't have any personal experience with Edward's heroin addiction analogy, but I'm definitely driven by desire. I get that much.

We're almost out of time, so I'm going to throw out a few more questions before we have to let you go. First, any other projects in the works?

There are at least two more movies in this series, maybe three if they pick up the last book. I haven't heard anything about that yet, but I'll be signed on for all of them. I'm signed on to do another film about an investigation into the My Lai Massacre that should be good, so we'll see how that pans out. I'm already getting more offers than I was, so that's cool. I'm not going to jump into anything, though. I'm not one of those people who feels compelled to work all the time.

And lastly, what can you tell fans about Twilight? Will it meet expectations?

Hell if I know. All I can say is that I'm proud of the work I did, and the way things turned out. We had a great time making this movie. If people like it, I'll be happy to hear it. If not, this was still an experience. Worth every minute.

We know you have to get going, so we'll let you go. Thank you for taking the time to talk to us today.

No problem. Bring me back anytime.
