biography
Growing up, Reid Loughlin never thought he'd become an actor. In fact, his biggest dream was to travel the world, playing his guitar. As the youngest of five children born to Irish immigrants, Frank and Catherine, there wasn't exactly much room for dreaming of a life outside of the shopkeeping his father did. His mother was a homemaker and kept their Boston home nice and tidy while holding down the fort with a strict set of rules. No one crossed Catherine Loughlin, but she'd be the first to kiss a scrape better. It was easy to note that Reid was the baby of the family and more or less coddled a bit more than his older sisters. His father bonded with him because he was the only boy and his mother kept him safe from his sisters' emotional rampages because he was the baby. The fact that Reid was expected to continue on the family printing business, however, was very much apparent as Reid would spend every summer from the age of thirteen in his father's shop. Reid had no desire to be a printer, though, and insisted he attend college on the opposite end of the country.
At the age of 17 (after graduating from high school early), Reid ventured off to Los Angeles to attend UCLA. His dorm room was picked and he was set to attend classes. That is, until the first day of class. After a panic attack mid-lecture, Reid decided that maybe he would be better-suited entering the working world. After procuring a job at a local Starbucks and finding a cheap (albeit grungy) apartment, Reid spent most of his time at work and strumming out chords on his guitar. Not once did he tell his parents that he'd quit school. Instead, he sent letters home about what a great time he was having and how he was doing wonderfully in all of his business classes. This went on for months... that is, until his parents saw him in his first commercial.
To make extra money in order to pad his paycheck, Reid auditioned for a few commercials and modeling jobs. It didn't take long for an agency to pick him up and, within his first year in Los Angeles, Reid had his first role in a motion picture. He is often the first to admit that his career happened by total accident.
After his first four films, Reid began to feel more homesick than he ever had in his life. He missed his sisters and his parents, but mostly his city. Packing up and going back home was not as easy as he would have liked, though. While his parents were proud of him for the work he'd done, Reid found himself a little lost and without something to do. It was then that he decided to give college another try. Boston University accepted him with open arms and, with his new major in History, college came at a much easier pace for him. After graduating, Reid decided it was time to go back to Los Angeles, this time on the hunt for more adult roles.
