Biography:It was winter of 2001 when a fifteen year old Kyle Ransom's family arrived in Burlington, Ontario, a small town in the Greater Toronto Area. Before that, they'd shifted from city to city and province to province. Truth be told, if you asked Kyle if there was anything that reminded him of his childhood, his answer would definitely be moving vans and long drives. His parents just didn't seem to be able to settle. Kyle himself was born in a Vancouver area hospital in June of 1985. A year later, just before the family left Vancouver, his little brother was born. From then, his mother gave birth to two more, one while the family lived in Winnipeg and the other while they lived in Montreal. Even with four children to care for - to provide stability for - Kyle's parents still moved from place to place and by the time he was twelve Kyle had lived in eight different cities. It was tough, and forced him to be friends with his siblings. In fact, his siblings were his best friends, his only friends. Unless, you counted the worn out, never properly tuned, drum set that moved with them from place to place.

When his parents purchased the guitar, they would not know the noise-maker (as his mother so affectionately referred to it) would turn out to be the heartbeat of Kyle's life; his sanity. When his siblings drove him insane, and when he couldn't stand to even bother making friends (something that wasn't hard for the boy) his guitar was there. He honed his skill on his own, with the help of listening to different instructional cassettes, CDs, and eventually, the internet and with the help of different books and magazines. Other than these simple resources, the boy was self taught, because when you moved so often, there wasn't really much time to take and pay for proper lessons. And until he arrived in Burlington, he wasn't even sure if he was actually that good or not.

It was in the middle of his second day of school that someone noticed his Pixies t-shirt. Really, the story is a classic one. Two sixteen year olds bond over music. One extends an invite to the other to come and jam with some friends. Magic occurs; sixteen year old #1 is asked to join an already formed band; terrible name after terrible name is suggested. One terrible name is settled upon. When We Dead Awaken. The band kept doing what they were and Kyle quickly picked up what they needed to learn, settling easily into a spot that had him both singing lead and playing the guitar. Shows that had been played to once empty rooms were not being played to full rooms, and then the rooms started getting bigger. Pretty soon they were playing shows not only at the local YMCA, but in Toronto itself. Local shows that drew crowds they had only ever dreamed about. No, it couldn't get any better than that. Except for that, it actually could.

It was the spring of 2003 when When We Dead Awaken put out their first EP. Because it was homemade, they handed it out at shows that weren't their own, and distributed it for free on the internet. They pretty much did whatever they could to get the music into people's heads, and somehow, with some major stroke of luck, their method worked. It wasn't that they were any better than anyone of the other bands that they were playing shows with, it was just a great big stroke of luck. If you asked Kyle, it was karma for having to move around for years and years before his parents finally decided it was time to settle. Whatever it was though, didn't really matter. What mattered, was that when most members of the band were only eighteen, various recording contracts were being tossed in their direction. A stroke of luck, indeed.

Kyle didn't honestly believe all of this could happen so fast, and so soon. But by early 2004 the band's first full length, titled simply Say It Like You Mean It, hit record stores all over Canada and the US. Of course, success happened faster at home than anywhere else. They toured the country, and america, back and forth, zig-zaging over the mass of land called North America. The middle of 07 finally brought the bands second release, one that had them flying even higher than their last release. Based On A True Story saw the band's dreams coming true all over again; something that they, again, hadn't expected at all.

Currently the band is working on writing their third record. Kyle himself? He's about to be part of something far bigger than a band. He's about to be a father.

Other stuff: I'm in the eastern timezone. Scenes are golden and I'm up for random IMs so don't hesitate to shoot them in my directon. Kyle is a pretty laid back sort of dude and can probably get along just fine with nearly anyone. It takes a lot to piss him off and his life's philosophy is live and let live. That said, if you want to work out a SL, just hit me up. They are definitely very very welcome.
