HERP NEED MORE VOTES.

Why don't people in these contests vote?! What the hell, man.

Actually, I can answer that one. Something Kuroitenshi pointed out to me once.

You can't vote for yourself; and so, it's automatically a vote against yourself if you vote for someone else. Not everyone promises or does vote. So by Voting yourself, you often help out other people to win.

Sadly, I never even thought about it til she explained it to me. Then, I stopped voting for myself too.

That's really dumb. I automatically assume that I will get votes in return, and I don't mind voting at all.

What gets me though is that people who are no longer even in the competition stop voting once they get eliminated. It's like... Okay, you can't even spare a minute each week to pick a few icons? I guess they're just butthurt that they got eliminated.

That's sadly how I view most LJ icon makers. Most put on this fake aura of being nice to everyone while underneath they believe they'll always be king of the hill. And if they can't stay as #1 then they won't stick around long.

The only thing that irks me more is how just as many of them outright refuse to do icon tutorials. Being afraid you'll look like an idiot explaining your techniques is one thing;being a total bitch about it because you want to protect your coloring ways like they were the U.S. nuke codes is goddamned ridiculous.

The thing is, I know that all of the people I'm up against in SB right now vote EACH AND EVERY TIME. Even if they get kicked out, they still vote.

So it's the people who aren't in the contest right now that aren't voting. I guess those of us still in really are the best icon makers left standing.

I don't do tuts because I can't even follow my own psds, mang.

I'm inclined to agree with you. I used to not vote in GJ icontests because I hated the fact I was taking votes away from my own icons and giving it to others, some of who I felt didn't deserve to win. But then I grew up and realized these are just 100x100 icons and nothing more. Now if only icons would win on how they look overall instead of how popular the fandoms are. That's a bad trend I've seen a lot recently on LJ and even here on Scribbld.

I wasn't bitching at you specifically. I was just venting. Whenever talk about icons pop up I always get reminded of how one LJ iconist was just a total bitch to me after I politely asked her how she colored certain icons. She treated it like I was asking for her firstborn child to be sacrificed.

I only don't vote if I honestly don't care for any of the icons. Either that or if I forget to come to scribbld come votan' time. I also have issues with voting for fanart icons, and since most of the icons on scribbld contests are fanart anymore, I generally just abstain. (and when I do vote, I give priority to people who used official art, which really isn't fair to the people using fanart so yep, abstaining is probably better.)
Never seen the popular fandom thing happen myself though. I'll vote for an icon even if it's from something I hate, as long as it was well made.

Lolwat. Seriously you manage to run into all of the wrong people. I've only ever met nice people.
(also I would sacrifice a child before bothering to make a tutorial.)

I guess that's so. Counting you and Axelle, I think I've met only three or four iconists (that's counting one recently) who didn't mind sharing their coloring techniques.

Well it makes sense not to share. Because then you'd lose watchers if other people could make icons just like you (concievably)

But I'm not popular so I don't really mind helpin' a brotha out? Basically all I do is make a selective color layer and eyeball it though. Seriously I have the lamest coloring techniques ever.
