Hm, man I sometimes wonder why people don't read the fine print with medication.

Birth control (the pill verity) has shown some pretty amazing side effects. Here are some examples of people I know personally's side effects: strokes, brain cancer, severe respiratory problems (i.e. not being able to walk up a flight of stairs because its as winding as running a mile), extreme hormonal instability (i.e. getting all of the hormonal crap from a particularly bad period but for everyday, all day, with/without the bleeding), and new allergies.

Vaccines have some pretty interesting side effects too. Cancer, serious immune system damage, new allergies, getting the illness it was supposed to prevent, poisoning, and allergic reactions. And no, Autism is not a side effect but having it does heighten your chances of having one of the more severe side effects.

My point: be a weary consumer. Just because it's all the rage does not mean its the right thing for you.

(My inspiration to post this was an interesting conversation I had had with a friend of mine who's mother suffered some of these side effects.)

Well I got around to finally catching up completely on my role play reading! Joy! I have always made a habit of reading all threads to see if there's one I wanted to join or not. Since I'm a moderator now, I feel I should be reading threads for the sake of moderating on top of my curiosity as a player. Not that there's a lot of moderating to be done (you RPers are pretty good about staying within rules on your own- yay!), but it is important to me, at least as event mod, to make sure people are actually following event instructions because I'm not just a barking kind of person, I bite too.

I'm the type that tells you I'll bite you before you I do it though as I hate being unaware of the consequences and then being caught by surprise when they are followed through. I don't mean to be a hard ass about it, it probably comes off that way though. I'm just very black and white about things because I hate miscommunication- which is a word (go screw yourself spell check).

In other news I scored some ridiculously awesome axles for my ASME project. Somehow I always find what I need for engineering stuff at the arts and crafts store. >.> No seriously. Speedball ink rollers are perfect for what I'm trying to do (light weight, pre-aligned axle, rubber gripness). It's so randomly awesome that way. My poor group leader is not going to like hearing I spent $45 bucks on them though. ._.;;

Somehow I seem to provide the more expensive portions of the device. While I don't mind this, it's always kind of a funny thing for me to think about. So far I've spent about $70 bucks for proof of concept stuff for machine version 4.0. Our team leader limited us to $100 each- but if my idea works.....

Then we'll have the blasted hopper problem freaking solved. Everything will be cheese and apples and delicious awesomeness if we fix that. The hopper system is what's really making/breaking our machine. Getting it to work opens up amazing doors for us, like the door to victory.

I did some research today.

The more I look at it, the nicer Rhode Island School of Design looks to me. I've looked at their grad school stuff, while the Industrial Design department isn't huge, the faculty are very high-powered, the program is internationally recognized. Yeah, it's kick ass. It's near my Uncle (non-zero chance I might be living with him as he has a basement he rents out and he's not too far from RISD) it's actually affordable because I could TA the undergrad classes in both math and in design (engineering design, BWAHAHAHAHA). My ASME stuff will probably get me out of the first 1/2 a year they require for this degree.

Anyways, I got a promise from my mom that I could visit grad schools next summer for sure. She also said the AWA trip tacked on would be cool, but funding my hotel and con expenses would be my own problem. Which suits me fine, I'm good at that.

In other news I had a hopeful breakthrough on my ASME thing. I know this doesn't fascinate others the same way it does for me but I really am happy about it.

You see the competition I am in is basically the NCAAA Championships of Engineering. Except its World Champion, not just National Champion.

There's $3,000 prize money for my team. $1,000 for my school's ASME chapter if we win. It's a big deal. I also get another plaque (already won one at districts). Winning that competition is a permanent resume thing.

So yeah. That's why I'm excited about it. I think its justified to be excited about.

I saw Scott Pilgrim vs. The World last night.

It was epic.

The entire thing was full to the brim of adorable video game references 8-bit sounds, getting experience points, getting 1-ups. The characters are lovable and their actions are over the top, just like everything else.

Anyways the premise is that this chick Romona has 7 evil exs whom Scott must defeat if he wants to stay with her. So he has epic battles. Scott's a nice guy, kind of lame at times, but still tries to be awesome. In the end of the movie everything gets resolved appropriately. The ending is kind of predictable, but the entire movie is full of witty humor and epic battles and random awesome.

Go see it, it is worth the money!

For this entry, I decided to provide my expressions to what I am saying.

So I did ASME stuff, ran errands, and hung out with Queenie yesterday.

Okay, I'm explaining the ASME thing because I've been giving myself a headache trying to make it work. If anyone wants to ask questions or offer suggestions, please let me know.

But for those who aren't into nerd stuff, you can just enjoy the cut. )

In other news, Jenny McCarthy is an ignorant woman with power who is preaching ignorance and it makes me sick. Very sick.

Rant. Big rant. I am not happy with this woman rant. )

That woman, I really, really hate what she's doing. She has no idea how horrible she is being. No idea at all. She thinks she's helping. Worst kind of ignorance, worst kind.

In other news I've been house-sitting for my folks. Which means sleeping in their bed with Jigger, the family dog. Now, Jigger moves in his sleep, he gets up and walks around in circles to make himself comfortable on the bed, he cleans himself hella loudly and does this on and off all night. This results in me -the light sleeper- not sleeping well. Jigger woke me at 6:10 am this morning to get himself fed and to pee.

At least he's a sweet dog or this would be more painful.

Now that I know the reason my maintenance has been delayed I feel a bit better. Apparently two toilets and three more hot water heaters have broken since I prodded them to fix my ceiling. The manager had no idea I hadn't been informed. She actually got up and apologized to me and made a note right then and there to harass the maintenance guy in person about it. She asked me if I was okay since she'd read that things not being on time causes kind of horrible anxiety in autistic people (which it does, btw). I told her I used some tricks for thinking about it to prevent me from stressing out horribly bad, and that I was okay.

So yay for moving forward with the manager on that. And yay for her doing some research, it makes me feel so much better to know that she understands what jerking around does to me.

On a different note I was able to help some guys jump their car and they complemented me on my Zelda shirt. :3

And then I got a 'I LOVE YOU GUYS!' text my mom who is out of state atm. ^^

Life is looking good for me today.

Karin Icons! )

In case anyone was wondering, for a comedy-type romance anime, Karin is remarkably creepy at times. I liked Karin before I liked read Twilight and I still think this was a much, much better example of a high school vampire romance story. For one thing people are REALISTIC about it in ways they are not with Twilight. For a start, Karin and Unsui fall in love by spending time with each other, not by other means.

Though I kind of missed how the manga ended in comparison. Not that I didn't enjoy the anime ending, I just liked the manga's better.

Also, in Joy, Karin is holding lube. She is trying to give some to her older brother because he goes to an all boys school and according to some manga she read, it said that her brother was an Uke. Its an awesome scene. And the tiny text in Tiny Text (because I always actually write something) is 'because taking a dump in public is insanely embarrassing'. She's not actually shitting herself in that image though, but its what it looks like. Also, in element, Karin is kneeing at a lake that has been dyed blood red by vampire blood for a ceremony. So that is water, it is also blood, it is a representation of how by being a vampire she is unable to properly immerse herself into life.

The last update for today I think.

I was gone all of yesterday mostly because I had to move my electronics from my apartment to my parent's home for safety. The good times there.

Also I went steampunking with another friend of mine I hadn't spoken to in a while. The worst part was that we were on foot so I spent most of yesterday treking around. I did, however, manage to get an awesome drill and my art books back from my teacher! YAY FOR HAVING A SKETCHBOOK!!!

Also, I went and listened to my brother and dad preform music live. Good times.

Steampunk- Verb: 1) To convert a normal object into one with the steampunk aesthetic, 2) to find objects suitable for converting into the steampunk aesthetic (either the object being converted or an object to have part salvaged from)

Well, I went steampunking by the second definition and look what I scored.

Five dollars for total, epic, steampunk, glory!! )

Expect Death Ray Pics later!~

More funtimes!?

Okay so I might have just been officially commissioned to punk (aka turn a normal object into a steampunk object) a computer monitor, a keyboard, and a mouse for a friend of mine.

Crazy talk, right?

I was giving him some estimation costs, the keyboard and mouse alone are going to be like 60 bucks about. And then I need the brass plating, the typewriter I'm stealing the keys from, soldering stuff, screws..... Oh this will get very complicated I am sure. Especially since I've never punked something before.

Also, I've got ASME building stuff to do. Proof of concept for my machine. We'll see how that goes.

Oh yeah! Also I might have a short haltus where I move my electronics out of my apartment and into the safety of my parents home as I'm having ceiling maintenance done tomorrow or Friday and I don't want them ruined by ceiling crap.

In other news, the Traverse Town RP will definitely have one person I know join up, maybe two. We'll see what comes of that soon.

Now I think it's time for some funny stories and interesting real life stuff.

My art class peers are bitching for no reason. )

Now, onto a different topic, I had a fun misadventure yesterday while I was visiting my friend.

I have a friend who managed to get kicked out of an art museum. )

And now for something not completely unrelated but very different.

The west coast is completely different culturally than the east, here's more proof. )

And I'm done babbling for now.

Mamori Icons of love! )

This set was particularly awesome looking to me. I'm really pleased with how they came out. It might be a bit hard to get, but Artist Choice 02 is a picture of Hiruma's locker. Faceless was taken from Chapter 333 of the manga (the last one), Mamori is shutting the picture album in this picture. I didn't make the art for these, but I did color Action, Alone, the Same Picture ones. The text in the tiny text is this:
-Youcihi, for the last time, you have a fever.
Why don't we just watch the Superbowl from the bedroom?

-BLASPHEMY! THE SUPERBOWL MUST ONLY BE WATCHED
FROM THE COOUUUCH!!

And yes, he is groping her in Nemesis.

So after I took Harvey (my laptop) into the nerds on Tuesday I discovered my problem was that Havery somehow started to hate my dock. What. The. Fuck.

Anyways, I temporarily went around this issue by just plugging everything I plugged into the dock manually. System working, I'm no longer in an uncomfortable position all was okay. But then I discovered my virtual memory was being a bitch and by bitch I mean filling up in 4 hours (normally it takes 4 days of not being turned off to fill 4 GB of RAM). To fix this I just restart. Only to have the computer crash again after restarting. Le sigh.

After talking to both the nerds and my father (engineer, computing science degree, been using computers since back when they had punch cards) and sister (did four years of computer hardware repair and ran the computing center help desk at her university) and all three groups said I should re-install my OS or upgrade my OS. So now I have a shinny new copy of Windows 7 on my machine. Whee~

So far its working okay, I have to get a new copy of Microsoft Office (le sigh) and re-install my messengers and the like. It's moving into the computer all over again. Thankfully Windows 7 is such that I can actually find things (which I can't on Vista). Anyways I should be fully functional sometime this weekend if all goes well. And by fully functional I mean running all my programs and with all my files back.

I hope Harvey with 7 will take well to the dock. I like my dock, its very nice.

Hello I have a minor news flash. This morning my computer crashed such that it won't start up again. I'm not entirely sure what is wrong with it, but I'm basically on haltus until I can get it working again. I have no clue when this will be, I'm taking it into the nerds tomorrow to see what can be done, if anything. My computer, if anyone is curious, shows me the start up screen with the HP logo and stays there for several minutes. When it finally leaves that screen it beeps at me and continues to stay stuck. The hard disk, for some reason, isn't turning. I did try removing power and cycling it a few times. Same issue.

So I won't even be on IM until I get this working again.
