Physical Description: Bastian comes from a long line of good, strong men. As such he stands at 6’1 with a solid build. His muscles are more natural rather than the result of any considerable effort, though Bas works out daily to stay in peak physical condition. He has retained his pale colour from his years spent in Europe (especially at Durmstrang, where any daylight during the Winter was welcome) though the climate of the South has changed his complexion from sickly to just pale. A mop of curly, black hair contrasts to his skin, which is usually a little unruly and sticking in odd directions. His most noticable feature would be his eyes, which are dark brown, large and usually crinkled slightly due to always smiling. Bastian has no time for such frivolity like piercings or tattoos and his skin hardly has even a freckle on it.

Personality:
Likes: Logical explanations, potions, brewing, the shine on a freshly polished cauldron, scholarly pursuits like chess and reading, inventing potions, Skype, helping others out with their problems, his little sisters, snuggles with Bo.
Dislikes: Show offs, ingredients that smell on your clothes for weeks, letting others down, late people, music players in the library, the first years sticky fingers on books, fumbling his English, not being able to articulate.
Quirks: - Always has a pair of lab goggles to hand, refuses to be seen unless impeccably dressed (then ruins the illusion by sticking a lab coat on over the ensemble), often seen running to and from Professor Sweet’s quarters at all times of the day with armfuls of parchment and vials.
- So used to the cold climate of Durmstrang he often finds himself bundled into a warm coat, only to wonder why he is feeling faint and sweating profousley once he goes outdoors.
Secrets: - Scared of heights and very jealous of the Quodpot and Quidditch players
- Lied about his ability to speak English before coming to Blue Ridge and spent six weeks non-stop cramming. He still can’t remember the right word for ‘grapefruit’. Luckily it doesn’t come up often in conversation.

Detailed personality: To see Bastian walking down the corridors of Blue Ridge, you may be mistaken in thinking he is a serious and perhaps even ferocious character. In fact the opposite is true. Bas is very much a gentle giant, and any scowl that may pass you is simply due to being deep in thought about one thing or another. A curious boy, Bas can often find himself stumbling into trouble in the search for answers, though he is much more likely to step into any fights as a peacekeeper and advocate for mature, grown up discussions. Always courteous, what Bastian lacks in eloquence he makes up for in friendliness, and always has time for a friend in need. His door is always open to those with a problem, be it academic or not. Bastian is incredibly bright and finds Potions the most challenging and nourishing of subjects, enough that he practically eats, breathes and sleeps it.

Personal History
The Winter Bastian was born was a particularly cold one, snow in November was virtually unheard of yet a thick blanket covered the city of Sint Pieter’s Leeuw making it impossible for Els Dubios to make it to hospital when she went into labour. Bastian came into the world on the floor of a small doctor’s surgery, surrounded by startled doctors who were more used to giving flu injections than delivering babies. His unusual birth didn’t affect Bastian, who was at home in time for Christmas with his parents.

Growing up in Belgium was idyllic. Bastian’s father was a country man at heart, and the Flanders region of Belgium was much more rural than bustling. Full of nature reserves and remnants of old castles, Bas spent his early years exploring forests and climbing ruins, dreaming of adventure. There was no question that Bastian was magical, for both his parents were excellent wizards and as such he was taught by the best from his home, bestowing his own knowledge on his little sisters as they were born.

When Bas turned eleven he was offered a place at Durmstrang Institue and eagerly accepted, his curiosity and sense of adventure leading him onto pastures new. Whatever reputation Durmstrang had was almost unfounded by the time Bastian studied there. Though extremely cold, he found the school to be like home to him, where the best was expected and any interests were encouraged. In fact, it has not been since leaving Durmstrang that Bas has learnt of its ferocious image and leaning towards the dark arts, to him it was just a normal school. Bastian’s most favourite subject was Potions, perhaps because he seemed to have a natural gift for it, despite finding the work challenging. By the time his seventh year was over he was far beyond the expertise of other seventeen year olds, brewing his own draughts in the secrecy of his dorm room.

Bastian knew that he would continue studying once his final year was finished, but he longed to live somewhere with a little more sunshine. After talking his parents round, Bas was able to apply for a place at Blue Ridge University, all the way in America. The weather had certainly appealed to him, but Bastian had also read papers from the Potions professor at Blue Ridge and was excited to be working under his teaching. With a mixture of excitement and nerves, Bastian found himself in the middle of a foreign country for the second time in his life, struggling with the language and different culture. However he found himself most welcome and touched by the other student’s kindness.

He has been at Blue Ridge only a few weeks now, but Bastian is feeling right at home. He has even struck up a sort of friendship with Professor Sweet that gives him access to a stocked potions cupboard to play with to his hearts content.
