I thought I'd do a post for each of my characters, explaining where they came from, their current situation in traverse_town. I got this idea from Roxas's mun, and I figured it would be a good thing to add to each of my characters when I get around to doing each of them.

There are spoilers concerning Devil May Cry 4 in this post. Proceed with caution.

General Past (Pre-DMC4)

Before Devil May Cry 4, there isn't much to go on as far as Nero's past is concerned, or how he gained his Devil Bringer arm. There's little to no offered information on how he got it, at least in game. At the beginning of the game, he's wearing a sling, and you don't discover it until Dante shows up and shoots the high priest of the Order of the Sword, Sanctus. The way I'm handling it is that Nero blacked out on a mission for the Order, waking up at headquarters, his arm in that sling.

As far as Nero joining the Order of the Sword in the castle-town of Fortuna, Nero was taken in by the Order as a child. Not much is known about his past, along with information about his parents before this event. There is a lot of speculation that Nero's father is in fact Vergil Sparda, Dante's brother, but none of this has been confirmed.

Most of the events concerning Nero in Devil May Cry 4 can be found here.

Relationship with Kyrie (Pre and post DMC4)

Nero grew up with Kyrie, and most of the information concerning their relationship leads one to believe that the two are very close. Kyrie is really the only person who seems to be close to Nero in his life at this point. It seems apparent during the course of DMC4 that Nero loves and cares for Kyrie very deeply.

Relationship with Dante (Post DMC4)

By the end of DMC4, there appears to be a bit of begrudging respect between Nero and Dante, but Nero still harbors a great deal of annoyance with not being able to defeat Dante on numerous occasions, even if he did put up a decent fight. Dante's attitude can grate on Nero's patience and Nero's cocky attitude can sometimes work Dante's nerves, and the two seem to take a great deal of enjoyment in bothering one another. With this said, it is sometimes possible for the two to get along. Sometimes.

Weapons

Red Queen - The Red Queen is a customized version of the blades used by the Order of the Sword and designed by Agnus. It has an ornately etched base, and appears to be modeled after the German Großes Messer (lit. "Great Knife"), but its most unique feature is that it has been specially customized with a motorcycle-like gear shift which, when pulled, spays a flammable propellant across the blade and opponent, greatly increasing the power of its blows. This system, known as "Exceed", can be revved up to three times, and can be released either in one incredibly powerful strike, or as three lesser, but still strong, blows. This and several other modifications makes the Red Queen nearly impossible for anyone but Nero to wield.

Blue Rose - Nero's personally designed long ranged weapon. The Blue Rose is a unique over under barrel style revolver, this design allows it to fire two magnum rounds with each pull of the trigger. Nero is the only member of the Order of the Sword allowed to wield a firearm such as the Blue Rose because they believe guns to be dishonorable.
Like Dante's own Ebony & Ivory the Blue Rose can be charged by Nero channeling energy from the Devil Bringer into the revolver. This charge ability has three charge levels each requiring more power to be channeled from Nero's demonic arm and is represented by the Devil Bringer glowing different colors.
When the Blue Rose is fired while Nero is in his Devil Trigger form Summoned Swords similar to Vergil's are created that spin around and into the enemy, charging up the shot creates multiple swords that spin around you until the shot is fired.

Devil Bringer - The Devil Bringer is the "weapon" that takes the form of Nero's right arm. Its origins remain a mystery but it bestows upon Nero incredible power, including the ability to bend space and time to pull himself across distances instantly and pull enemies to Nero. According to Nero "From that day forth, [his] arm changed and a voice echoed 'Power. Give me more power.'" It seems to also give him incredible strength, as he is able to parry the sword strike of Berial, who is almost five times Nero's height, with his Red Queen. The arm allows Nero to absorb certain items, such as the Yamato, and gain their abilities. It is by doing this that Nero attains his Devil Trigger.

Devil Trigger - Nero possesses a Devil Trigger, in which a blue, spectral demon manifests behind him wielding the Yamato; this demon somewhat resembles the Devil Trigger of Vergil due to the "sheath" on its left arm. Nero himself acquires a blue aura, burning red eyes, and a deeper, echoing voice. The specter mimics Nero's movements but strangely enough when Nero uses Buster on Angelo Agnus while he's stabbing Gladius into Agnus, the specter is slowly drawing its hand towards Yamato before slicing like Nero does with Showdown. When Nero swings his sword the specter swings Yamato doing a right hand version of Nero's attack. Some of Nero's techniques with the Yamato, usable only in Devil Trigger, allow him to wield the sword itself. In Devil Trigger Nero has two special attacks. The first is called "Showdown" in which Nero unleashes a barrage of slashes with the Yamato as well as some with the Red Queen. After the technique is over he will either say "Ashes to Ashes", or "Dust to Dust". His second attack is called "Maximum Bet". Nero combines Yamato and Red Queen and then slashes twice in an X form sending a fast, blue energy blade in the form of an X at the enemy. The attack can be charged up for more power and a bigger blast but doing this will slow the blast down. The major drawback of these two attacks are that they leave Nero completely open for attack because Nero is charging up energy before unleashing these attacks. For these moves to be successful, they must be done at the right time. It is unknown if the Nero's Devil Trigger will continue to manifest as a detached specter, or will become more similar to other characters' Devil Triggers and allow him to physically become the demon itself.

General Personality

For all intents and purposes, Nero is not really a people person. When he was with the Order, he was put on assignment usually by himself due to his inability to work with a partner. Nero is also known fairly well in DMC4 for his mouth, which he tends to shoot off frequently. He can be easily annoyed or frustrated, given the right circumstances, which can often cause him to act out.

Nero is generally slow to trust, unless he's been given a pretty good reason to actually trust someone. He can also be brash, cocky, and maybe even a little arrogant at times.

Nero can be incredibly mischievous, given the right outlets. One might be able to describe him as a "brat" or as Dante once put it, "punk-ass kid". This can manifest itself in several ways, but usually it's shown during extreme periods of annoyance when Nero is most likely to run off at the mouth.

Nero can be quick to anger, especially when those he loves are endangered by someone or something. Nero can be angered enough to bring about the use of his Devil Trigger, however usually that happens only in situations where there is a great amount of stress and anger. Any other time, his Devil Trigger can be willed in to starting for a short time.

Nero in Love

There are very few people in the world Nero cares about. However, when Nero does care for someone there is no in between about how he feels. He will go to any length to protect them, no matter the risks.

Even when in love or even just with people he cares about, Nero can be somewhat closed off, or not open to showing it. It depends on the person and his exact relationship with them regarding how much of himself he actual shows. When he completely and totally trusts someone he can be incredibly open and loving, but only two people (post Traverse Town events) have ever gotten that far.

Nero in Traverse Town

When Nero arrived in Traverse Town, he had been in a conversation with Kyrie when he was taken. Shortly after learning where the inn was, Nero used the computer in the inn lobby, and quickly found a post from Roxas, who was looking for a roommate. Having heard from Renji Abarai that he would be stuck here for awhile, Nero responds to the post, agreeing to share a room with Roxas.

Nero's relationship with Roxas and Axel

After Nero and Roxas finally meet, Nero quickly gets involved in the complicated relationship between Roxas and Axel. He becomes Roxas's confidant and upon hearing Roxas insist that he doesn't have a heart, Nero insists that he does, pointing out the fact that Roxas wouldn't care about his issues with Axel if he didn't.

This among other things causes Roxas to start falling for Nero. Shortly after, Nero starts to return those feelings, causing tension between them and Axel. At one point, Axel gets drunk and takes a swing at Nero, causing Roxas and Nero to move from the inn (where Axel knew where their room was) to a house in the third district. After Axel came to Roxas wanting to "start over", Nero agreed to talk to him. They have only now come to an arrangement concerning their feelings for Roxas.

Nero and Roxas have quite a bit in common with each other, including specific personality traits, fears, likes, and annoyances. Both can have a tendency to be smart mouthed, mischievous, and generally downright bratty, and this can be made even worse when they're around each other. Both of them enjoy skateboarding, especially using it to cause havoc for other residents of Traverse.

Nero and Roxas can be pretty obvious about their relationship with each other, and aren't really that worried about hiding it from others. Both have a very "What's it to you?" attitude concerning other's opinions on their relationship. They don't see other's opinions as having much weight when concerning them.

Nero is incredibly protective of Roxas, but he tries to keep himself from trying to control or tell Roxas what to do. Nero is aware that Roxas can hold his own in a fight, especially against the heartless, but he worries for Roxas's safety, and it can sometimes come through, especially when it concerns Roxas's more recent plans to return to the abyss. This protective nature can also be seen in Nero's initial attitude towards Axel, whom he believes sees Roxas as nothing more than a plaything. However, because Roxas still loves Axel very deeply, Nero is willing to put these feelings aside for the time being, giving Axel a chance.

Nero and Kyrie after Traverse

Nero now sees his love for Kyrie a little differently than he once did before he arrived in Traverse. He still loves and cares for Kyrie, but he sees his relationship with Roxas to be on a completely different level.

Nero, Leon, and Dante

Nero was actually slightly annoyed when he first found out that Dante was in Traverse Town as well. Now, Nero is mostly indifferent to the elder demon hunter presence, despite Dante wanting to taunt him about his current relationship with Roxas.

Nero has a bit more of a positive response to Leon Kennedy, who followed him into the abyss in an effort to bring him back when he was pulled into a portal in the third district. Leon was injured in the entire exchange, which, while Nero isn't too bothered by since the agent had made it though okay, he still feels slightly guilty about. Nero seems unbothered by Roxas's friendship with Leon, and the two seem to be on good terms.

Nero is aware of the relationship between Leon and Dante, but he will not be inclined to bring it up unless Dante decides to continue to taunt him about his relationship with Roxas.

Currently

As of right now, Nero is living in the third district in a house with Roxas. They're both attempting to make something resembling a relationship with Axel work, and can be sometimes found out killing heartless or skateboarding around the second or third districts.
