Things are going well. Team is back to full strength, although we have little enough to do. Higher ups say no major events. Have switched focus from major factions to isolated individuals - any actions will not be noticed. Several seem promising. Following up leads on:

'The <strike>Gardener</strike> Mother'
'The Doctor'
'The Teacher'
'The Latina'

The plant manipulator seems nervous but not unreasonable, may be open to persuasion.

Latina may be trouble, has v. dangerous abilities, also interesting connections. Next on the list.

Primary security focus continues to be clean-up site and research vessel.

Sending four units out this week to investigate/monitor 'factions' from PK's notes. May be a waste of time, but they can be spared in any case.

Another letter to the editor in the local paper today. "Alien abductions... reports of people vanishing in plain sight, yet the authorities do nothing. What is the government covering up this time?" Maybe not just a crackpot?

Positives: Strong, determined, clever, driven, passionate, creative, great tactical planner
Negatives: Proud, closed-minded, intolerant, antisocial, violent, unbalanced, paranoid

Summary: James is an intense guy. He works hard, he plays hard, and he takes everything very seriously. He can be friendly and charming, but in a very superficial sort of way. His smile never quite reaches his eyes. There is always some calculation of odds and angles going on in his mind. The slogan "an Army of One" could have been inspired by James. Everyone is his enemy, even his friends who he knows could turn on him at any time. Some people call him paranoid. He says that just becuase you're paranoid doesn't mean they aren't out to get you.

He is fascinated by psychology, strategy, game theory, order, and chaos. Particularly the way a perfectly constructed series of ordered events can incite chaos. He thrives on conflict, whether he is winning or losing, though winning, of course, is preferable. If he has no real enemy or oponent he will create one or invent one.

History

Family: Sam Wolfe (father), Ellen Wolfe (mother, deceased), David Wolfe (older brother), Michael Wolfe (older brother, deceased)

Summary: James grew up in Charleston, the youngest of three boys all raised to be soldiers. The military ran in his family like a hereditary disease. His father and uncles were all in the service, his grandfather was a retired officer. Plastic weapons and G.I. Joes littered their family home and there was never any question about what the boys would do when they grew up. David, the oldest, enlisted at 18 and quickly rose through the ranks. Michael, the middle child was their mother's favorite and always the rebellious one. He did the unthinkable and joined up with the Air Force, though by all accounts he excelled there until the accident. While James was still in high school Michael's died when his plane malfunctioned and crashed during a training exercise. Their mother took Michael's death very hard and she pleaded with James not to enlist. That was no match for a lifetime of preparation though, and as soon as he graduated James joined the U.S. Army. While he was at boot camp, his mother died of an overdose of pain medication. It was ruled accidental, although the entire family suspected that Ellen had known exactly what she was taking.

James did not do quite so well in the army as expected. He had the strength, drive, and field smarts to be an exceptional soldier, but he was disinclined to follow orders and was not infrequently accused of being 'out of control'. Fortunately (or unfortunately) he was spotted by a particular senior officer and singled out to join a largely unacknowledged squadron know as Commando Operations Support Squad which had been quietly assembled during the Viet Nam war and had been in operation ever since. The members of COSS were reckless, undisciplined, and generally considered expendable. While deployed soldiers were sometimes described as 'Peacekeeping Forces' that label would never be applied to the COSS team. Their missions involved inciting violence where it was needed. When possible, getting the enemy to kill each other. Where that couldn't be accomplished, they would stir up insurgency in relatively quiet but strategically significant locations that the top brass needed an excuse to send troops into. Brutal but effective, the team was everything that peaceniks and bleeding heart liberals would claim is wrong with the military in general. They got the job done though. What happened after they'd stirred up the trouble wasn't their problem.

It wasn't unusual for some unfortunate member of the COSS to eventually draw unwelcome attention. In that case they would invariable be given a dishonorable discharge and sent away before anything so unpleasant as a court marshall could be discussed. However, as compensation, they could also expect an unofficial but highly influential letter of recommendation to help them transition into civilian life. That was exactly what happened to James Wolfe in late 2007 after one too many unpleasant 'incidents' in the field. That letter helped him to get a job as a security consultant with an elite private firm. The job was mind numbingly boring after his time in the service, but at least it paid well and it was as close to action as he was likely to get. Following the oil spill near Isle of Palms his firm was hired by the oil company and due to his experience and local knowledge James would be leading the operation. Officially they are supervising the clean up for public safety, however they are also unofficially observing and disrupting any and all outside investigation efforts. The last thing the oil company needs is more law suits. An unnerving number of people have begun to take an interest in the effects of the spill and the local water quality, not to mention the other odd things going on nearby. It's all making Wolfe's job a lot harder, but certainly more interesting.

Power

None.
