- rhett k. collins "popped out of his mom's vagina" (as he puts it) on the warm afternoon of august 21st, 1990 to excited parents jordan and rachel collins in the city of chicago. the happy family of three lived there for four years before rhett's mother died in a fatal car accident on her way home from work. the roads were icy and she lost control of the vehicle. rhett's father was unable to handle their home that reminded him so much of rhett's mother. despite the protests of rhett's grandparents, jordan packed up the family's belongings and relocated their now family of two to salt lake city, utah where rhett has now spent the last fourteen years of his life.

- while rhett doesn't come from a lot of money and restarting his life was hard on his father, rhett and jordan get by just fine. while they're not rolling on dough, they're not living off of food stamps either. they live together in a small, two bedroom house that's hidden away from most other houses. you have to follow a road quite some way down a tree hidden path to actually get down to his house. his father claimed to want the space to put his junk cars. the house is so small that their living room and kitchen are barely divided. because of all of the propery, rhett his a soft spot for being outside and most of his nights are spent either sitting on his backporch, laying in his yard, or taking his own hikes through the "woods".

- rhett's dad is self employed and owns his own business. he's an auto mechanic and has been doing it since he was rhett's age. rhett grew up helping his father restore old cars and fixing other people's broken automobiles. the boy managed to pick up a thing or two from his old man in the process. on weekends, rhett can usually be found under a car in the garage with his dad or running errands to pick up parts for his dad's client's cars. one thing in particular about rhett is that he never smells bad, but it's not unusual for him to have a hint of oil or grease scent to him.

- he drives a 1976 pontiac firebird trans am. his father had got it really cheap when they first moved to salt lake city because it was a "broken piece of shit". the two of them together have been working for years to get it working again and in rhett's freshman year, they had it up and running. it constantly messes up on him and things go wrong, so rhett seems to be frequently working on it. people often tell him to get a new car, but rhett cherishes his car and refers to it frequently as "his baby" (among many other pet names).

- he's a slacker and spends most of his time doing nothing that'll benefit him academically. while he's enrolled in great classes and gets excellent marks on his tests and quizzes, he seems to never take anything seriously. most people think he's an idiot because he acts like such a clown when it comes to actual class time but he's actually very bright. teachers either love or hate him, there's really no in between. he has a few friends here and there, but he's never striven to be popular or impress people. for the most part, he likes to be alone and this often makes him come across as a loser. however, when it comes to name calling he prefers the term loner. it's not that he can't make friends, he's just very guarded and doesn't like to let too many people in. he prefers to let the world see a humorous, always sarcastic, never anything serious to say rhett than the real him. though fun loving as he is and easy to get along with, he has his faults. he's often pretty secretive, not fond of sharing his personal life with others (though he'll listen to anyone else who needs to vent). because he's secretive, he's a great person to unload on since its rare he'll tell anyone. one major problem with rhett is how short tempered he can sometimes be. because he's so blunt and honest, he doesn't really care what someone thinks of him after he makes a comment. his smart ass attitude and his sarcastic mouth often gets him in trouble.

random tid-bits
- he can and will eat anything. he has a fast metabolism, considering his age and gender, and will usually eat enough for three of him and not gain a pound. he jokes that he's waiting for it to catch up to him frequently.
- he's constantly drinking water, dr. pepper, monster, or cream soda. his dad's obsessed with cream soda, so they always have it in stock and rhett tends to go through various cases of dr. pepper and monster. it's either one or the other stocked in the fridge, he never seems to have both at the same time.
- he doesn't have a cellphone, which in this age and day confuses people. they tell him to get one frequently, but he sees no use for it. a house phone is good enough for him.
- he enjoys playing video games and when he's not out and about or working on cars, he's usually shut away in his room playing video games, writing music, or playing guitar.
- thought rhett doesn't watch a whole lot of tv, he does enjoy watching a&e when he gets the chance and loves most shows dealing with crimes and murders. he has a soft spot for ghost shows and horror movies, and his weird fascination with those types of shows often freaks people out.
- csi: miami is one of his favorite shows and he has a huge crush on emily procter.
- he claims he's not afraid of anything, but ghosts are something that really bother him and at the same time interest him. he'll never admit they scare him and if ever put in a situation where "ghosts" are involved, you'll never see him scared. his "most scared" moments often occur when he's alone at his house.
- while ghosts freak him out, he gets a tickle by scaring other people and he's pretty good at it. he is probably the worst person to sit with after a horror movie because he'll go out of his way to make you scared or freaked out.
- he started playing guitar because his mom had played when she was alive. he has a couple of old photos and home movies that he found stashed away in his father's closet when he was little of her playing guitar and singing. since he saw them, he's always been mesmerized by the instrument and as a dedication to his mother, he's put his heart and soul into learning. not many people have ever really heard him play, let alone sing.
- he's usually late for class or really early for class. he never arrives at exactly the right time.
- he's had one "serious" girlfriend in his entire high school career as people might consider it, but in all honestly nothing serious ever amounted from it in rhett's eyes. she couldn't take his lack of seriousness and his inability to make a commitment to anything but his car. they dated for six months before she kicked him to the curb and moved on to "bigger and better things".
- he's not really into the "high school thing" and in all of his years, has only attended one football game. he's never been to a dance, never been to any sports events, and usually cuts out before pep rallies because he finds them annoying.
- he's got a very diverse taste in music, enjoying almost every genre.
- one major key to rhett is that it seems he has the inability to embarrass himself. he'll talk to anyone and anything if they talk to him first.
- it often surprises people to learn that rhett has no intention of applying to college and it confuses them even more when they see what classes he's taking. he has his reasons, but no one ever gets close enough to him to learn.
- one day while working on one of his cars, he found a stray kitten near one of the garbage cans crying by his garage. after bringing it inside and giving it some actual food, he found a liking to the cat and begged his dad to keep it. the kitten is now six months old and rhett adores him to pieces. his name is binks and rhett spends a lot of his time with the cat. the cat often sits on his cars or inside of his car as he works on it.
- on top of the cat, rhett also has two dogs. one is a stray and the other he's had since the big move from chicago. he has a golden retriever and a jackabee. their golden retriever's name is chevy, and it's a boy whereas their jackabee is a girl named harley. chevy is pretty old, so rhett doesn't get as much play out of him as he used to but the dog is loyal and has a heart of gold. rhett sometimes has trouble keeping up with harley, she seems to have non-stop energy despite being three years old.

alyx - friends through their parents. rhett was working on a car with his dad for her family and the two got to talking one day. they found they had similar tastes in music and started talking that way.

reids - not quite enemies, but definitely not friends.
minn - buddies.
kyla - school acquaintances. they talk inside school and joke around, and rhett even flirts a little, but their friendship never really goes anywhere past the school doors despite kyla's urges for him to get more socially involved.
kaela and nina - two girls that rhett can't actually stand. while he doesn't do it intentionally, he always seems to get into little arguements with them in class. he thinks they're a little too caught up in themselves and has no problem telling them so.
bia - they argue in class, but for the most part they're just horsing around.
collisten - probably one of rhett's only good friends.

avedon - he's got a major crush on her.
henessey - his best friend of fourteen years.
allisyn - his other best friend. between the three (aly, rhett, and alex) they are a trio.
