It was the type of summery day that no one could ruin. In fact, it was such a perfect, quiet, still night that Lily thought that if someone were to scream at the top of their lungs, it wouldn't even reach anyone else's ears because this night was too perfect for disturbance. She laid on the grass in front of her house. Lily was supposed to have been in bed hours ago, but somehow, the time had gotten away from her. All the while, Lily was just marveling at the fact that just one day before, she had graduated from Hogwarts.

Excited, ecstatic, scared as hell, Lily sighed as she remembered that she still had no idea what she was doing with her life. She had made plans to become a Healer, but she had not yet filled out any job applications. Lily felt as though she were stuck in a transition period between adulthood and childhood.

And all the while, she missed Remus. Remus was always there to make her feel better and tell her what she should do. And yet, he wasn't here, even on this perfect night. So, disturbing the perfect quiet, Lily Apparated on the spot to the ledge of Remus's window. She rapped quietly at the window, not knowing whether he was awake or asleep.

Lily sighed happily to herself as she took off her bloody plastic gloves. Luckily, this hadn't been a hard procedure; there was only blood on her hands because this particular procedure wasn't really a clean one. Whether one was a muggle or a wizard, giving birth was still filled with the gory details in between. But it was all worth it in the end, Lily thought, to see the looks on the mothers' faces when they met their child for the first time.

Lily wanted that. She knew she couldn't have that, but she wanted it. Remus and her had been living together for a few months now, and though they weren't married, Lily felt like they were ready to take the next step. Lily wanted to start her life was Remus; she felt ready. And somehow, she knew that he was too. It hurt her a little that he hadn't mentioned it, though.

Once Lily had finished taking off her messy garments, she put on her hooded sweatshirt and changed from her scrubs to her jeans. It might have been plain and muggle, but Remus didn't mind and Lily was more comfortable like this. She Apparated into the kitchen, smiling to herself as she thought of the look on that mother's face today.
