my major is Formally? I am listed as undecided. This means I do not care. Eventually the hope is I will begin to care, and then declare something like conducting or performance. But I doubt it.
my age/year is 20 // junior
i come from St. Petersburg, in Russia, but moved to Los Angeles, in California not quite so long ago
one Yes I am from Russia. Lived there a long time, until I was seventeen. Family sent me to school in Los Angeles, in California, with hopes that I would become something for myself. I believe they are disappointed.
two In the L.A. underground shows is where I met my friends. They look very ugly, like me, but we get along just fine. They said, 'why don't we start a band?' and even though I had not ever tried before, I became very good at the guitar very quickly. Our band is called Firebird and we play many underground and backyard shows, even though we are trying very hard at becoming a real legitimate signed rock band.
three My mother and father, in Moscow, were very upset when they heard about my new kind of music. They wanted me to come home and continue only the piano, which is what I had played before. But I like my new music and so I applied to Allegro, so that I could stay closer to my band. When I was accepted, my parents made me promise to focus more on my professional music.
four It is not that I don't like the piano, I enjoy playing it and I enjoy writing for it, but I believe there will be time for that when I am old. I am young now and I want to play the guitar with my band, so that is what I do.
five Sometimes I will admit that playing the guitar gets in the way of my school, and I purposefully will write something awful for an assignment just to turn it in. My parents would be very upset, except for the professors at my school don't fail me. They complain about my attitude and lack of ambition, but say I show great potential and pass me. This can be at times very frustrating.
six If my teachers did flunk me out, I could move back to Los Angeles with Firebird. Besides. Is a degree from a college really necessary for playing music? I don't think so, but my parents disagree, and so I stay at Allegro and pretend to try.
seven Yes I am aware I have an accent. Please do not point it out. I do not like it any more than you do.
eight No, I suppose I do not talk much. I don't like my accent very much, and also I don't usually have much to say. I prefer to stay quiet and listen.
nine If there was no music in my life, I do not know what I would be doing. Many other things interest me. Art, literature, dance, languages, business, travel. I would like to learn many things, I think. But I will start with music.
ten I do miss Russia very much sometimes. It is very different here. Still, I think I will stay in America for a long time to see if I can be famous here. If not, I will move and try again somewhere else.
shh Sometimes I wonder if I have wasted three years already at Allegro. It is a possibility that I am not as good as I think I am. But, as I say, I only wonder this sometimes.
