>>> personality

Brad is a bit of a klutz and a goofball, but he doesn’t care at all what most other people think. He knocks over at least one suit of armor a week, usually because he’s not paying attention to where he’s going, but reading a book or sheaf of parchments instead. He’s got a lot of energy for a Ravenclaw and has a hard time sitting for long periods of time. Brad likes to be up and moving, even if it’s just pacing while reading. He’s yet to come up with a way to take notes and walk at the same time, but he’s pretty sure he’ll do it before he leaves Hogwarts.

Brad is kind and generous, spending lots of his free time tutoring younger years. He’s especially good at digesting information and knowledge and being able to turn around and explain it in terms anyone can understand. His mother wants him to become a teacher, but there’s just not that many positions open in the magical world for that. Brad’s pretty much a mama’s boy, but that’s mainly because his father died when he was five and his mother has had to raise him by herself.

He’s got an eccentric sense of humor, usually finding the simplest things amusing. Brad is also a good listener and advice giver, often opting to play devil’s advocate to promote discussion and thought, especially when making decisions. He hasn’t decided what he wants to do after Hogwarts, it ranges from working with children (as a teacher) or to the ministry to work for Games and Sports, or even the Department of Mysteries. He has a hard time deciding, because everything seems really interesting and he just wants to know all of it.

>>> history
Before Hogwarts: Brad lived with his mother in a two room flat, who worked two crummy jobs to send him to the better primary school and now to Hogwarts. Brad is really grateful for all the things his mother has done, but resents the fact that she grumbles over him being a wizard whenever possible. He attends Hogwarts on a partial scholarship and feels like he owes a duty to the school and Board of Governors for letting him attend.

His parents were only married for a short period of time, before Brad was born and his mother had divorced his father because of the whole magic issue. Brad was only an infant when the divorce was finalized and his parents spent most of the time fighting over him and where Brad would stay. He spent his first four years being shuffled back and forth between his parents, week on week off. When his father died, Brad’s mother did her best to erase Brad’s memory of his father. Brad still doesn’t really know what happened to his dad or his dad’s family (once he came to the Wizarding world, he’d tried looking for them but couldn’t really find anything except for records at Hogwarts) but he hasn’t stopped wondering about it. He loves his mother, dearly, but she blames magic and the wizarding world for her current situation, and consequently, resents Brad’s ability.

Brad doesn’t let that get him down though. His family problems and other issues are left at home, except for when he gets owls from his mother (nearly daily, really) but he just kind of hides those and reads them all at once, sending a normal, really non-responsive kind of reply. She makes him go to tutoring sessions and summer classes every year when he comes back from Hogwarts; horrified that there was no university system set up; and plans for Brad to attend Oxford or some other uppity muggle uni, which Brad doesn’t have the heart to tell her he isn’t. He doesn’t mind the classes, it’s good to have the background, but wizards don’t use chemistry and calculus and Brad has never seen himself working in the muggle world, ever.

His mother married a wealthy muggle and had a baby in 1978 with him. Brad didn’t mind this intrusion, after awhile, because his mother was happy and a baby was kind of fun. His opinions and speaking out in The Quibbler got him in a bit of trouble and Brad had to send his family away – to Canada with their memories of him, completely wiped.
