1) A mutant (a technopath) shows up at the X-Mansion demanding sanctuary. When armored soldiers show up to try and retrieve him, this lends a lot of credence to his sincerity. The X-Men fight and drive off the soldiers. The mutant spins a story of horrible abuses at the hands of his captors. A telepathic scan verifies this.

2) Not long after, Alpha Flight shows up on the lawn, demanding the X-Men hand over the mutant and claiming he's an escaped prisoner and serial killer. The X-Men are disinclined to listen, especially knowing as intimately as they do about how crooked Department H and Canada and Weapon X and all that can be.

3) The Mansion's defenses activate, leading to the assumption that this is the X-Men throwing the first blow. Alpha Flight and the X-Men fight. (I'd like to keep this pretty even, if possible. One X-er for each Alpha; so unless we get a Guardian, no more than 5 X-Men.)

4) Inside, some of the other X-ers catch the mutant in the Mansion's lower depths. He turns on them, turning the Shi'ar tech of the Mansion against them. Fortunately, they manage to best him in the end.

5) They bring him out and manage to stop the fighting. A scan of his unconscious mind reveals that Alpha's story matches up and that whatever he had given the X-er's before was false. Alpha is allowed to take him.

6) Unbeknownst to Alpha, when they hand him over, the man is actually a Department H agent (or possibly Weapon X, whichever is the most evil proposition here), and the entire thing was simply a ruse to gain access to as much of the data from the X-Mansion as possible.

Syphon

Michael MacDonald was, at one time in his life, an ordinary man, working as a bartender in a small Canadian town. But whereas most people had no reaction to Department H's plan to drug the country's drinking water with drugs designed to induce super-powers in its populace, and others, like the members of Beta Flight, did develop super-powers, Michael developed super-powers on a far grander scale. His first manifestation very nearly killed the entire population of his town, leaving only a handful of survivors.

His sanity was, needless to say, somewhat damaged by this event. He would battle with Alpha Flight and Beta Flight not long after.

Though captured shortly after, it will not take him long to come to Omega Flight's attention.

Powers: Syphon possesses the ability to absorb any form of energy, from geothermal to electrical, to mutant and to use it for flight, destructive blasts, force fields, and super-strength and durability. In the case of siphoning mutant or super-human energy, the person in question finds their own abilities being reduced, though they will slowly recover in time. Syphon constantly absorbs energy passively, but can also do so actively and at increased levels.

Noteable Features: Nimue possesses the dark eyes and pointed ears common to Atlanteans. Her fingers and toes are connected by a thin layer of webbing. Her skin, however, is a pale yellow similar to her mother's, and her hair is a yellow-green mixed with pinkish natural stripes. Where normal Atlantean-human hybrids have small ankle wings, Nimue has fins that function in the same manner.

History: Countless ages ago, a Plodex ship crash landed on the Earth, eventually acting upon its primary programming to seed the world with Plodex life and releasing numerous eggs into the ocean. One of these eggs was eventually found by Thomas Smallwood, a Canadian fisherman, who brought it home to his wife. The egg imprinted upon her, hatching into a humanoid baby girl who the Smallwoods adopted as their own and named Marrina. Marrina joined Canadian's premier super-hero team, Alpha Flight, eventually learning of her true heritage while battling the villain known as the Master. Marrina would eventually leave the team to marry Prince Namor of Atlantis.

Marrina eventually became pregnant and the Plodex aspects of her genetic code took over, transforming her into a giantic sea monster that Namor and the Avengers were forced to slay, but not before it had laid countless eggs. Several of these hatched and became creatures of the deep. Several did not survive. But one became detatched from the nest before it hatched and drifted in the ocean for a long time, acquring DNA from virtually all oceanic life. Eventually, this egg was found by Dan Smallwood, grandson of Thomas, who had grown up like a brother to Marrina. The egg hatched before him and he and his wife took the child as their own. Though they knew who her mother had to be, and who her father likely was, they chose not to pursue it, feeling that if she had come to them, it must have been for a reason.

Nimue quickly proved to be just an amphibious as her parents and she eventually decided to enter government service, as her mother had before her. Despite initial protests, her parents eventually consented to allow this. Department H was already aware of her anyway and it would have only been a matter of time before they came knocking. Nimue became a founding member of the new generation of the Alpha Flight program.

Nimue participated in several Alpha Flight missions, frequently finding herself partnered with Alex, due to similar abilities, on aquatic based missions. Once such mission saw Alpha Flight fighting alongside the Fantastic Four against the Atlantean Warlord, Draconia. During this time, Nimue and Alex rescued her father, Namor, and revealed her identity to him. She has begun to establish a relationship with him, exploring her Atlantean heritage and her status as a Princess of Atlantis. At the same time, she has begun pursuing a relationship with teammate Mason Jeffries.

Much to the chagrin of many in Atlantis, Nimue's relationship with Mason remains intact. She was forced to watch him fight several different challengers for her hand, but ultimately saw each of them defeated. Even her father has reluctantly come to accept that Mason is her "chosen consort."

Despite her unusual appearance and her rediscovered royal heritage, Marrina remains a sweet, small-town, girl-next-door kind of girl.

Powers: Nimue's entire body is designed to be amphibious; her lungs are designed to extract oxygen from water as well as air and her fingers and toes are connected by webbing. Her eyes filter slight most efficiently, enabling her to see with much less light than an ordinary human. Her tissues, muscles, and bones are designed to resist greater pressures, giving her super-human levels of durability, as well as greatly enhanced strength. On land, she can lift aproximately 40 tons under optimal conditions. Fully hydrated or in the water, she can lift approximately sixty-five tons under optimal conditions. Nimue is swifter and possesses greater stamina than a normal human or Atlantean, though her exact limits have not been measured. In open water, she is capable of swimming at speeds of at least 100 mph.

Nimue possesses small fins sprouting from her ankle-bones which, through an uncertain process, allow her to fly. Her current top speed is slightly over 75 miles per hour. Her fingers end in sharp claws.

Due to being a human, Atlantean, and Plodex hybrid, Nimue may possess abilities that she is presently unaware of. While her basic body structure is human, she does possess several organs the exact purpose of which is unknown. One such organ, however, is possibly for giving her the ability to generate her own sonar, which is effective both in and out of water.

Marrina possesses a particular affinity for sea-life, and can communicate with most forms of it.

Limitations: Though able to stay out of water for extended periods of time, Nimue does require eventual rehydration. After aproximately five hours out of water she will begin to feel somewhat fatigued, and become increasingly weakened following that. After eight hours, she will become extremely week and will need to be full emersed in water to recover her strength. Periods greater than twelve hours out of water would prove fatal.

Relative Problems (draft 2) aka "Marrina is a Great, Big Sea Serpent"

1) With Marrina increasingly worried about her state of being, she contacted Kassi and both agreed to head off to a secluded spot in the ocean to try and see if Kassi’s telepathic abilities could help Marrina regain control of her rampaging biology.

2) Kassi, telepathically probing Marrina, hits some kind of trigger, which accelerates Marrina’s transformation into a giant sea monster. Predatorial instincts instantly take over, and she tries to catch and consume Kassi. In addition, this transformation sends out a subconscious signal through the ether than summons a trio of sea monsters, who bare some resemblance to Marrina.

3) The monsters try to attack Kassi, but Marrina retains just enough sense of self to aid in driving them off. However, the creatures are only retreating to a submarine/spaceship.

4) The spaceship belongs to the Master of the World, who is delighted to find not only another Plodex-spawn, but also another Atlantean hybrid. He explains the history of the Plodex to the girls and, more importantly, what all had happened to the original Marrina—including the exact circumstances of her death.

5) Marrina is experimented upon in some fashion, painfully. (Second generation Human/Atlantean hybrid Kassi may also be experimented upon if Nix so wishes).

6) Kassi is able to reach other telepathically to either Namor or Mac (or both), summoning their aid. Meanwhile, the experimentations push Marrina back to something resembling a more human form… but much closer to Plodex than Atlantean-human. Primarily cosmetic in nature, while retaining her abilities at slightly enhanced levels.

7) When _______ arrives, he’s/they’re able to free the girls, and they battle their way free.

They continue the fight and in the process manage to cause enough damage to the ship that it starts to self-destruct. They make it out, but don’t know what happened to the Master or Marrina and Kassi’s siblings.

9) Further questions for both girls about what their father is like, given what the now know.

Beta Flight

Beta Flight

Following the overall success of the revived Alpha Flight program, Department H began looking for the next generation of super-humans. To this end, they reactivated the Beta Flight training program, with the eventual goal of working these cadets into Alpha Flight. Found from various walks of life, the Betas differ from the Alphans in that most of them have only come into their abilities recently and that they have just begun functioning as a group.

While the source of their abilities remains unknown to them, save that none of them are mutants, their abilities all do share a common source. For several years now, Department H has been altering the water supplies within various regions of Canada, hoping to trigger latent mutant genes in various individuals chemically, in order to give Canada a super-human population to rival America’s.

Anti-Body: Dr. Randy O’Brien (28) first manifested paranormal abilities when he encounterd David Landers when he wass wheeled into the hospital in incredible pain. Landers raged until two dark arms spring from O'Brien's torso that restrained him long enough for O'Brien to give Landers a tranquilizer that rendered him unconsciousness. After a fight with his boss, Dr. Eastman, a negative image of himself (or antibody as it came to be called) flew across the room and attempts to attack Eastman, only stopping when Randy screamed 'NO'.

Randy later made a strong connection with Landers, promising to do whatever he could to help him and eventually realizing that Department H was their possible option. His career already teetering near the toilet, he happily enlisted.

Powers: Randy O'Brien is able to create multiple negative-image versions of himself out of an unknown substance dubbed "psychoplasm." These duplicates can fly, become solid or immaterial at will, and are as strong as their human original. They are also immune to attacks that affect the mind or the central nervous system. Although they lack vocal apparatus, they can confer their experiences upon living beings by touching them and willing such an information-transfer.

Mammoth: Dave Landers (age 33) was raised a Lutheran, but lost his faith completely after the death of the rest of his family. His brother Mark committed suicide, his father died of cancer in, and his mother died of illness in 1985. It was suggested that his mother died in part because she waited too long to go to the hospital.

On September 20, 2009 Dave woke up after a night of drinking with co-workers from the factory where he was emploed, suffering from extreme localized muscle spasms. He was also extremely hungry. He called a female co-worker named Sue to help, but because he didn't want to be taken to a hospital, the help was limited to buying large amounts of groceries.

Over the next week, without any exercising and while experiencing extreme pain, David put on over two hundred pounds of muscle. He also lost most of the hair on the top of his head and grew a foot taller.

Dave eventually attempted suicide, by consuming two bottles of painkillers, but Sue found him unconscious and phone the hospital. He was taken to a near-by hospitle, where he was treated in the emergency room by Dr. Randy O'Brien.

Dave woke up while he was being treated and began throwing people around until Randy was able to sedate him. When he next awoke, Dave explained what happened to Randy, who promised to help him. The two found their help via Department H.

Powers: Davis possesses class 30 super-human strength and increased durability.

Blur: Jeffrey John Walters (24)’s father died when he was 7, and so he was raised by his mother Thelma. He also had a younger brother, Dennis, and sister, Michele. He graduated high school in 2002, and took a job at a Burger King. By 2010, he was a manager.

One day in late January, 2010, Jeff was working whe he suddenly began to feel jittery. He felt an irresistible urge to get moving, and left his restaurant to go for a run. The run lasted about an hour and exceeded 40 miles per hour (64 km/h). He began shaking more severely over the next few days. Doctors prescribed tranquilizers, but they didn't work very well, and he found running was the only thing that wore him out enough to sleep. Before his powers manifested, he was overweight, but the constant running and a heightened metabolism slimmed him down quickly.

Desperate to help him, his mother contacted Department H to see what they could do for her son.

Powers: Jeff possesses the ability to move at super-speeds in excess of several hundred miles per hour and possesses matching reflexes and reaction times. He has difficulty slowing down and usually appears blurry due to being constantly vibrating. He requires vast amounts of food after exerting great levels of speed.

Friction: Charlotte Yolanda Beck (19), or "Charley" as she is affectionately known, graduated high school and went to college part-time to study dance.

While she was a sophomore, Charlotte experienced an intense headache in her ballet class. Suddenly, everybody around Charley began slipping around as though the floor was covered in ice. Charley was the exception. She later found herself sticking to things, and other people continuing to slip around her, and so began to realize that she was somehow the cause of the strange events.

Acting on a report filed by her teacher, Department H began its own investigation and recruited Charley into the Beta Flight program.

Powers: Charlotte possess the mental ability to affect surface attraction between matter. She can make things as frictionless as Teflon or as sticky as tarpaper. She does not require physical contact to affect things.

Scuzz: Dennis Cuzinski (16)’s father was an alcoholic and his mother died when he was 12. Because of the lack of strong parental guidance, Dennis (or "Scuzz" as he became nicknamed, due to a play on his name), became something of a juvenile delinquent.

He was 15 when his powers first manifested. The bed he was lying on began smouldering beneath him. His father thought Scuzz'd been smoking in bed and administered corporal punishment, only to find own his hand burning. Following this, Dennis became a runaway, and was eventually picked up by Department H, investigating a series of unexplained paranormal fires. He was given the choice of service in Beta Flight or Juvenile Detention. He chose Beta Flight.

Powers: Scuzz's body produces an unknown corrosive chemical on an almost constant basis. It is present in all of his bodily fluids, and a brief touch with his skin usually contains enough to cause pain to another person. Direct contact with his bodily fluids can cause severe burn damage. He is able to consciously increase the amount of corrosiveness at will. He's shown an ability to corrode a variety of substances, up to and including tempered steel. He cannot consciously retard his body's production of this chemical below a certain point.

Because of the constant nature of his ability, Scuzz wears through clothes extremely quickly. Within two days of normal wear, any normal clothing will be destroyed past the point of usability. Anything he handles for a long period of time will be similarly damaged. So far, only the unstable molecules of his Beta Flight uniform remain immune to his touch.

By spitting into his palm and rolling it, Scuzz is able to create what he calls "Scuzz-Balls". These globules can be thrown at short ranges with explosive potential.

Glitter: Stephanie Harrington (33) was born Stephanie Lindquist. She was raised in an Episcopalian family.

During her high school years, Stephanie was a cheerleader, but she never went on to higher education after graduating high school. At some point, she met her husband, Chuck Harrington, and they married. She stayed at home as a housewife and he worked in a meat packing plant. She gave birth to her first child, Benjamin shortly after. Two more children followed, Emily, and Jill. They had what was reportedly a fairly happy family.

Stephanie first manifested paranormal abilities. She felt a wave of dizziness while watching over one of her daughters. Jill tried to comfort her, but became charged with energy and began running through the house. She later healed a minor bump the child suffered as a result.

Although at first Stephanie put the sparks she saw off to being dizzy, her other children and became hyperactive around her as well, and soon her husband noticed, and contacted Department H, believing they could cure her. Stephanie’s husband has forbidden her from seeing her children until she is normal, placing her under great stress.

Powers: Stephanie Harrington's body produces an unidentified energy, which greatly increases her strength, endurance agility, and reflexes.

Because of this energy, Stephanie can engage in physical activity for long periods of time without tiring, lift approximately one ton, run approximately 40 miles (64 km) an hour, and has a reaction time about twice as fast as the average human.

The energy also greatly accelerates her own healing process and those of others. It can heal small cuts almost instantly. It can't, however, cure anything the body itself can't cure, as it's merely an acceleration of the natural process. With some diseases, her ability might in fact speed up the progression as the disease could be affected by the same energy.

Her body produces this energy in the form of sparkles that she continuously emits, although the sparkling intensifies when she's actively using her abilities

Twilight: Little is known about the first 65 years of Lenore Fenzl's (66) life. She never married, or even had a serious relationship, referring to herself as an 'old maid'. She graduated college and went on to receive a masters in Latin. She later became a high school Latin teacher, but eventually retired.

One day, Lenore noticed a strange silvery spot on her skin. She showed it first to a friend, and then to a nurse, and both of them fainted. She feared the spot was cancer, especially as it began spreading, and she began covering herself up.

At one point, when the condition had spread over to her whole body, Lenore went to see another doctor, and the doctor also fainted. Lenore phoned a crisis intervention hotline and they told her about Department H. They agreed to help her learn to control her abilities, along with (falsely) promising to help remove them entirely, if she would aid them while she possessed them still.

Powers: All of Lenore's exposed epidermis produces a bright, white light through a form of bioluminescence, that somehow generates the production of fatigue poisons in the body and sleep chemicals in the brain. Most living beings exposed to this light find themselves extremely tired and lose consciousness. A man of average weight would be rendered unconscious by ten seconds of exposure. The longer a person is exposed to this light, the worse the effect is. In addition, Lenore possesses the strength and vitality of a person about twenty-five years younger than her actual age.

Lenore cannot cease the use of her powers, and so she must cover her body completely in order to interact with people.
