Physical Description: Samir is neither imposing in stature or height, having a thin, wirey body and standing at an average 5’10. His mother was Egyptian and his father Italian, blessing him with distinctive features. His hair is very black and his eyes almost as dark, yet his skin is paler than his mother’s. Samir has a rather feminine face, with high cheek bones and long eyelashes, which are offset by his masculine jaw line. His hair is usually allowed to grow until it tickles his nose, then it is cut to a less irritating length. It is always messy and gives most of the impression of his scruffy look. He prefers to wear black and has numerous precious silver rings that he never takes off. Samir has the odd tattoo, a small dedication to his mother and some sayings in scripture. He speaks with a Southern drawl no matter how hard he tried to get out of the habit as a teenager. It makes him feel like he should be waltzing around in cowboy boots and tipping his hat to the ladies.

Personality:
Likes: Cats, rising late, driving, the ladies, annoying the ladies, torturing, maiming, proper cigarettes and proper beer, his momma’s homemade falafel, when Gemma gives people the look, Baton Rogue, Egypt and teaching.
Dislikes: rising early, frat boys, rednecks (for lack of a better word), people with money, blood under the fingernails, stupid muggles, muggles who think they’re smart, when Gemma gives him the look, anyone smarter than him.
Quirks: Samir has a habit of staring unblinkingly whilst holding a conversation, which can either be totally sexy or totally unnerving. Talks to cats.
Secrets: Samir may have a few teeny tiny psychotic tendencies. Or a split personality. He has killed for revenge and wouldn’t rule out killing again if the urge ever became too strong.
Amortentia smells like: Cumin, a strange coppery smell and engine oil.
Strengths: Excells in Divination, a skilled duellist, can drive really fast really well.
Weaknesses: Damsels in distress, a firey temper, a taste for blood
Detailed personality: There are two sides to Samir’s personality. The most prevalent side is his calm, introspective side that would rather stay at home and study ancient hieroglyphics or the bottom of his tea cup than go out partying and sleeping his way through his twenties. He is pleasant enough, always having a smile for student and teacher alike and he thrives on teaching and learning.

However there is a darker place inside of Samir, his heart is almost untouched by anyone he meets and he would even suggest that it is closed off forever to everyone. Except cats. That is not to say Samir can go without pleasure. On the contrary, his appetite for good company is almost insatiable, he finds dominating the mind and bodies of others to be of upmost pleasure to him.

Personal History
Hebony Bayoumi was born in Egypt in the late 50s, thriving on the busy streets of Cairo selling wares to tourists. Every penny she made went towards sending her little brother Jahi to school, as being a girl she was expected to be married and a dutiful wife by the time she was in her late teens. Though there were many hardships, Cairo was a special place to grow up in. Steeped in history, Hebony thrived on the teachings her little brother would share with her, her head in the clouds most of the time, which is how she had her chance encounter with Angelo.

He was in the US army air forces and on leave, choosing to see the world whilst his time was free. How lucky could two people be, that a witch and a wizard find each other and fall in love despite the many miles seperating them?  What he came back to America with was a wife. An Italian and an Egyptian wed and living together caused quite a stir to their neighbourhood, and it was obvious that Hebony would not thrive in Brooklyn when Angelo was away. As such, they upped and moved to the relatively simple life of Louisiana, where the whispers still followed them, but everyone talked so slow that it was already forgotten before they had finished their sentence.

Hebony was six months pregnant when Angelo was called up for service and four weeks away from her due date when the knock came at her door telling her her husband was dead. It was a plane crash that had killed him and the shock sent Hebony into early labour. It was there on the kitchen floor that Samir wasted no time on bursting into the world, a whirl of pale skin and the deepest black hair.

From that moment the small child was always independent, learning to talk and walk much earlier than his peers. His pattern of speech was the source of much amusement in the way he slowly chose his words to convey exactly what he was thinking. When Samir was six years old he began to suffer terrible headaches, followed by voices inside his head. When he enlightened his mother she burst into happy tears, exclaiming that Samir had inherited her gift of Sight and the voices speaking to him were those of the dead. Of course, it could be that the two of them suffered from acute schitzophrenia, but Samir has had the Sight with him forever since. It was then that Hebony told Samir that he was a wizard, with both magical parents. The decision was made to home school the boy from then on.

Days were spent learning about ancient Egypt, a truly fascinating and decadent time in history in Samir’s view. His mother explained to him about how they would worship cats and it made sense to him why the strays of the county always turned up on their doorstep. On a particularly hot summers day when Samir was ten his mother finished up ‘school time’ early. For a treat, she was taking Samir for ice cream and hopefully some relief from the oppressive heat but almost minutes later she was to leave his life forever in the hands of a drunk cop, who drive right up onto the sidewalk in his police wagon and mowed her down. The cop was taken off the force, but served no jail time. It was a bitter pill to swallow and Samir swore he would have revenge on the man who had taken his precious mother.

Samir had been planning to attend Blue Ridge in six months time, but instead he found himself in his mother’s birthplace of Egypt and living with his uncle Jahi. Being in such a wonderful city, part of his roots helped Samir recover from the trauma, though something in him had changed. He was reserved and quiet, listening to the dead in his head for hours, waiting for his mother to speak. Uncle Jahi was a fun-loving man with plenty of girlfriends. He was always willing to share advice about the opposite sex to Samir and surprisingly he was usually right. His whole philosophy came down to ‘treat ‘em mean keep ‘em keen’ and it sure as hell worked for him.

Within a year Samir was back in America, alone and away to school. He was a year late but no one was unwelcoming and he was sorted into Shenandoha, where he flourished in a learning environment. It became evident as he got older that Samir certainly had a gift for Divination, the star pupil in the subject. In fact he was well liked by most, especially teachers, who were extra tolerant of him due to his background. His free time was spent chasing girls and normal teenage activities which followed on to his college years at Blue Ridge. He was studying Divination seriously by this point, and taking teaching lessons in his spare time. His dedication to the school earned him employment as a teaching assistant, which seemed to be all that Samir wanted. Except that there was still the niggling problem of the policeman who had killed his mother.

It was during a free weekend that Samir returned to Louisiana with the intention of selling the house he had grown up in. What use was it to him now? It was already falling into disrepair and he could not sense any part of his mother’s spirit clinging onto the house, and so he set about tidying up the loose ends.

One very big loose end made it impossible to focus on anything else, and whilst searching through the phone book Samir found an address of exactly who he was looking for. Of course the cop didn’t recognised him when he opened the door, he had been stinking drunk when he had robbed a child of its mother. It only took two surprisingly strong blows to the head with a baseball bat to crack the man’s skull. Magic would be too risky. Samir found he felt whole after the murder, returning and helping the classes as school as if nothing had happened. But the urge to kill only goes away for so long, and it wasn’t much time before Samir was delivering his own brand of vigilante justice to wrong-doers of Georgia for any petty crime.

A chance walk through the woods of Bluebell Town led Samir upon someone who would change his life forever. Her name was Gemma, and she gave his hate of muggles a more focused goal, an actual purpose. Samir's teaching job has proven to be a perfect platform to kickstart Gemma's plans to erase muggles from the future, even if she is a little mysterious.
