New Domain & Un-planned Downtime

Hey all,

we registered a new domain for Scribbld -- Scribbld.com so please update your links, bookmarks, etc accordingly. we'll be keeping the .net version for at least another 2 years. The DNS propagation should already be completed by now.

We’d like to apologize for that downtime. it was a lot longer then we had expected. It was not related to the domain change but to some packages getting updated/removed on the server which weren’t supposed to be. we’ve figured out what happened and corrected it. Please post any outstanding issues you see to our support queue and we’ll work on them as soon as possible. Again, we do apologize for that downtime.

Thanks for your patience and understanding.

morgan & jimmy

Unplanned Downtime

We recently noticed the server had been restarted about 1 hour ago. We've run a check on the database and all seems well. Please let us know if you experience further issues on our support page.

New Server!

Hey kids,

We're on the new server. It's currently located out in a data center out in Scottsdale, AZ and has ben provided to us by CrystalTech to whom we're very grateful. It should be a lot more stable then over the last couple years and as with all of our servers we'll be constantly monitoring it from all aspects (disk space, TCP connections, MySQL server, Ethernet connections, etc...).

At this time we see no issues with the new server, however we did notice that there may be an issue with AOLs email servers, however this issue is not on our end and you may need to contact them for further support. We will be setting up a PTR for the IP we're on to see if that helps any though.

Please report any issues you're seeing to our support queue.

Jobs Issues

I believe when we upgraded the database software last week we overwrote some of the settings for the application to function the way we wanted it too. We think this is what was causing all the issues with sending emails and such this week and hopefully we fixed the issue tonight. We'll continue monitoring the jobs in the database server to make sure they're being processed correctly and in a timely fashion.

Apologies for the issues and thanks for your patience!

Email Server Down

Greetings,

Since about 3am on August 24, our main email server has been down. At this time it is still down and we're hoping to get a systems administrator onsite in the morning to resolve the issue. At this point you may or may not be receiving emails, so please understand we're aware of the issue and are working to resolve it.

As we get updates we'll post them here.

Thanks!

UPDATE: We routed mail through another server. All issues should now be resolved.

Thanks! :)

[DOWNTIME] Update!

Hey all!!

Sorry about all this downtime lately. As mentioned one of the main power lines into our biulding got messed up, basically what they told me was that it corroded so it pretty much disintergrated haha. That line has been replaced but in the process they managed to cut the phone line...awesome right?! I mean every that could possibly get messed up does....so now we've got this ghetto ass arrangement, they've strung this CAT5 cable from the telephone pole through the woods and trees and all...and hooked that up for the time being. At some unknown date they're going to bury that line and hopefully during then will not screw up anything else.

Again, I'm really sorry about this all. I'm just as annoyed as you all.

This of course means more outage since they'll probably be disconnecting the CAT5 line running now to install something more permanent. I'll post more information as it comes in...

As usual, I try to keep up with http://scribbldstatus.tumblr.com - but I haven't lately...I'll be more on top of that, I also randomly tweet about issues on a personal Twitter account - jimmyb - but don't rely on just that haha.

Thanks everyone!

[DOWNTIME] Power Maintenance

Greetings users,

This morning we had some power line maintenance worked on (a continuation of last week if you may...). Tomorrow at 7am we plan on shutting down the servers again for continued power line maintenance. We plan on being down for at least 6 hours. They've got to dig a trench to bury the new lines. We'll keep you updated and informed about the situation.

Thanks for your patience and understanding.

[EMERGENCY DOWNTIME] 7.10.2009

We'll be turning all servers and services off tomorrow at 9am EST. We're experiencing some power issues and rather then get corrupted databases out of it, we'll be turning them off while we look into the issue. All data has been backed up.

This outage could last anywhere from 6 to 12 hours.

Thank you for your patience and understanding.

[UNSCHEDULED DOWNTIME] July 1, 2009!

This morning, at around 1-2am EST our main database server suffered some failure. At around 8am EST we were able to pull a backup and restore it to the new database server. Unfortuantely, while it seemed some of you could and did post to the server, we were unable to retrieve that information since it wasn't caught in one of the backup cycles. We'd like to apologize for any posts/comments/edits that were made during this time.

At the moment, we're running everything on the brand new database server and have yet to come across many if any hiccups.

Again, sorry, but we're glad not all was lost.

[Scheduled Downtime]

We'll be changing DNS systems on June 6th, 2009 starting at 8am. Please note that while DNS can converge quickly throughout the Internets, it possible that this site could be unreachable for up to 72 hours.

You can watch the offsite Scribbld status at http://scribbldstatus.tumblr.com for up-to-date information throughout the day.

Thanks!

Account Renaming - FREE For the Next 7 Days!!!

Hey everyone!!

We've been hard at work trying to get rename tokens working. We think we've finally got it, so that's why we're giving you the chance to rename your Scribbld username. There are some things you should consider when renaming though:

You can rename to:
• An unregistered username.
• The username of a deleted and purged journal.
• The username of an account you own, as long as the email addresses and passwords match.

That said visit the renaming page and have at it!! We've also finally purged deleted accounts, so those user names are available too!!

After the 7 days, we'll be charging $10 for a rename token. We're still working to get the actual token bit working, so enjoy the free "token" while it lasts!!

UPDATE: It looks like if you're an Early Adopter and you rename to a new username you stay as an early adopter, so it looks like you keep whatever account type you're on regardless of the type the account name has that you're renaming too.

Example:

You are an Early Adopter and rename to a new account. You keep your Early Adopter account.
You are an Early Adopter and rename to an Early Free User account name. You stay as an Early Adopter.
You are an Early Free User and rename to an Early Account name. You stay as an Early Free user.

Really this is just account renaming, not account typing changing.

Thanks!!!

ISP Network Maintenance

Our ISP has just informed of us some maintenance they'll be performing.

"On Sunday May 17, from 2 - 3 a.m. EST, we will be performing upgrades and maintenance to our network. These upgrades will cause intermittent outages for all customers during this time period. These upgrades are designed to increase performance and redundancy of the core routers in our network."

So keep this in mind when accessing Scribbld during that time frame!

Thanks!

Scribbld Status

I just wanted to remind everyone that we've got an offsite (as in not located in the same network that Scribbld is) status page. So if you cannot reach Scribbld you should definitely check there first. The site is:

Thanks!!

[DOWNTIME] Rescheduled Database Server Maintenance

We'll be rescheduling the maintenance for the main database server to start at 8pm Friday evening (February 6th, 2009) until 8am the following morning (Saturday the 7th). During this time all of Scribbld will be offline.

Thanks.

Update - 8PM: We're currently in the process of rebuilding a RAID set on the main database server. During this time you may notice some server time outs, slower then normal loading times or other random odd things, don't fret, we just recommend refreshing the page and it should come up as normal! We're trying very hard to keep the site online, but please bear with us for the next 12-14 hours. We appreciate it!

Thanks!

Update - 9AM: The RAID has completed it's rebuild. I do not think we had much if any downtime which is excellent!

Thanks everyone!

[DOWNTIME] Database Server Maintenance

This coming Monday (February, 2nd, 2009), we're going to be working on the database server. Unfortunately all sites and services will be unavailable during this period. We expect the downtime to last from 8am until 8pm EST.

UPDATE: Maintenance has been postponed as we've been sent the wrong drive. We'll update again ahead of time when we finally get the right drive.

Thanks.

[DOWNTIME] Dtabase Server Issues

Today we lost power and all but the main database server came back up. After investigating we found out the the disk drives had gotten corrupted. We fixed them as best as we can but we'll be needing to purchase at least 2 new drives and very soon.

Thanks for your patience!!
