Chanter out of hospital
Good news for 18-year-old defenceman Dylan Chanter of Armstrong B.C. He was released from hospital on Sunday after a scary incident that left him in convulsions on the ice on Saturday night.
Chanter plays for the Dubuque Fighting Saints of the USHL junior loop. Midway through the second period in a game against the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders, Chanter lost his helmet in a fight and then smacked his unprotected head on the ice after he lost his balance in the scrap.
He was knocked unconscious and then went into convulsions on the ice as his mother watched online back home. The game was suspended.
After a bevy of tests he was diagnosed with a concussion, released from hospital and he felt good enough to tweet "Happy thanksgiving to everyone back home. So thankful for all of the support so far. " on Sunday afternoon.
Canadian Olympic goalies
Each week we rank the top contenders for the three goalkeeper spots on the Canadian Olympic team based on their play to date.
1. Marc-Andre Fleury (Pittsburgh) - He has been excellent so far with a 4-0-0 record for a Penguins team that will be without goalie Tomas Vokoun (blood clot) until the Authentic Giants Jerseys Sale New Year.
2. Jonathan Bernier (Toronto) - Sure he's an Olympic longshot, but how can you ignore his 4-1-0 start, .946 save percentage and 1.75 goals against average?
3. Carey Price (Montreal) - In a showdown against Vancouver's Roberto Luongo on Sunday, Price was the much better goalie with a 39-save effort in a 4-1 win.
4. Mike Smith (Phoenix) - After back-to-back losses, the Coyotes goalie recorded consecutive wins on the road over Detroit and Carolina.
5. Corey Crawford (Chicago) - The Stanley Cup champ was ordinary in his first three outings, but he enjoyed his best game of the season against Buffalo on Saturday.
By the numbers
2nd - Time in the last 10 years a father-son duo faced each other in the NHL when Carolina Hurricanes forward Brett Sutter, the son of Los Angeles Kings head coach Darryl Sutter, played against his father's team for the first time. The only other father and son to face each other in the last decade was when Andy Murray coached the St. Louis Blues and went up against his son Brady Cheap Giants Jerseys On Sale of the Kings on Oct. 6, 2007.
3 - More games for New Jersey Devils veteran Jaromir Jagr to hit the 1,400-career mark in the NHL. If he stays healthy he will become the 32nd player to the reach the milestone when the Devils visit the Columbus Blue Jackets Giants Jerseys For Cheap on Oct. 22.
12 - Points in 11 NHL games for Dallas Stars rookie Alex Chiasson. He has nine goals and three assists in 11 games, dating back to the end of last season.
13-14-1 - The combined record of the six coaches who began the season with new teams this year, including Craig Berube, who took over the Philadelphia Flyers last week. Alain Vigneault (New Cheap Authentic Ravens Jerseys On Sale York Rangers), John Tortorella (Vancouver Cheap Authentic Ravens Jerseys Sale Canucks), Patrick Roy (Colorado Avalanche), Dallas Eakins (Edmonton Oilers) and Lindy Ruff (Dallas Stars) are the others.
8-14-1 - The combined record of these first-year coaches if you subtract Roy's 5-0-0 Cheap Giants Jerseys Sale start.
