.FAQ.

WTF?

Hi. I'm Sara. This is both a PB-icon journal and a Character Development Journal. In other words,
if you don't RP, you'll have no use for it. Everything here used to be @ baobabble on GJ; a lot of it still is, but no new content is going up over there. I've had it with GJ, damn it.
Ta.
Girl

.Name. Sara. Answers to Rin as well, as it's rather less common than Sara. Rin is short for Katherine, which is my middle name. [You have no idea what it takes me to admit that. My middle name used to be the guessing game for everyone who knew me.]
.Age. 21 since March 27
.AIM. SavageFlight
.Locations. Somewhere in the abyss that is Pennsylvania. Ideally, Happy Valley.
.Likes. Harry Potter. His Dark Materials. Firefly. LOST. Way more bands and movies than are interesting or practical to type out. Celebrity gossip. Fashion models. Polygamous lesbian psuedo-Mormon marriages. Bluey-green. Making up lives. Teh ghey. Claiming that everything is my OTP (it is actually Sirius/Remus, but I'm not a nut job about it. [It may also be Jack/Lucy, but only Cassie and I care about that. {It may also be Me/Cassie.}])
.Dislikes. Seinfeld. People sitting behind me. Most American literature. Hypocricy. Passive-agressiveness. Bitches who steal other people's ideas for games, take the original game's character list, and insert their albino. Moths. The necks of geese.
.HP RP.

.Prefers. Marauder's Era; never once have I had a successful or fulfilling run in a Trio-era game. Plotty games. Mature games [I'm not a smuthor, or anything; but mature, I mean dark themes acceptable. Voldemort is a Bad Man, yo.] Hyper-active games. I don't play Hufflepuffs or Ravenclaws with any degree of success- yes, I'm one of those bitches.
.Generally Plays. SIRIUS BLACK is my main, most developed, and best-played baby. I also have in my arsenal a damn good Lily Evans. Another regular is Alecto Carrow; my Alecto is totally unbalanced in the brainpan, so don't expect your regular Slytherin girl here.
.Also Plays. Tom Riddle. Gideon Prewett. Remus Lupin. Andromeda Tonks. Less successfully, Fleur Delacour and Ginny Weasley, although the lack of success is attributable to my apathy toward Trio games rather than an inability to write those two.
.Will Not Play. James Potter. Bellatrix Black. Harry Potter. Severus Snape. Anyone else to whom I can attribute, fairly or not, Sirius's death. (James excluded; I just have no desire to play James whatsoever, it's not a matter of principle.)
.Games. None at the moment; taking time off from HP games.
.Original RP.

.Prefers. Supernatural games. Creative ideas. Opportunity to effect the overall plot. An overall plot to begin with. Nifty storyline names. The chance to create truly unique and strange characters.
.Generally Plays. Insane woobies. Incredibly naive young men and women. Characters with some sort of major handicap. Innocents led easily astray. In short, the butterfly pinned to the glass.
.Will Not Play. Characters for the sake of sex. Renamed clones of characters from established fandoms. Demons. Vampires. Anything else that lends itself totally to cliche no matter what you do with the character.
.Games. Grimmingly @ IJ
.Firefly RP.

.Prefers. Canon-based and crew-based. No desire to sail on any boat but Serenity, thanks.
.Generally Plays. Malcolm Reynolds. I have a thing for emotionally damaged, highly volatile, incredibly loyal anti-heros who enjoy pissing people off(see also: Black, Sirius.) I'm quite good at them, really, and Mal is no exception. Plus his voice is incredibly fun. As an English major, I don't get to say 'ain't' too much!
.Will Also Play. River Tam; insane girls are another deep love of mine. Kaywinnet Lee Frye; she's so cute that I'm pretty sure I couldn't resist. Zoe Washbourne; the dry sarcasm is amazing and actually comes pretty easily to me, if the random speculative conversations I've had with Maddie in Zoe-voice are any indication.
.Will Not Play....basically, no one. Anyone in the Firefly 'verse would be amazing. I probably wouldn't be too great at Wash or Jayen, but I'd me more than willing to give either a try, at least. The only canon character I can think of that I wouldn't touch with a ten-foot pole is Niska; one sadistic psychopath at a time is enough for me.
.Games. None currently.
.Would Love To Try.

.Gaimanverse. Someday, me and Julie are making a Gaimanverse game. Someday. Maybe when we finally figure out who gets Delirium and who gets Death and who gets Dream. I'd like to rock the shit out of any of those three. I also think I could pull off a kick-ass Desire, and don't even get me started on Merv Pumpkinhead. Or Orpheus, assuming I didn't take Dream. Ok, see why I need this game?
.Grey's Anatomy. You could probably talk me into playing Izzie. I'm not actively looking for a GA game, or anything, but it's not outside the realm of possibility. I'm just sayin'.
.Jane Austen. Austenites might happen someday. Until it does, let me just say that I'm a huge Austen fanatic, and mucking about with her style would bring me great joy.
.Icons.

.Will Icon. Almost every redhead known to man. Models who do not scare me, although I might someday icon Sasha Pivovarova despite the terror that would cause. Actors and actresses who can, you know, act. Musicians who have pictures that aren't in front of a microphone.
.Will Not Icon. Most incredibly commonly iconned people, unless she totally loves them (see also, JGL and Keira Knightley.) Scene queens. Myspace celebs. Anyone whose major accomplishment in life is having a tabloid report on his or her stint in rehab.
.Favourites. GOD. This is a nearly impossible question to answer; I adore everyone I icon. The ones I use or have used myself as PBs are Hannah Fell, Darla Baker, Emily Browning, Mathias Lauridsen, Richard Armitage, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Melanie Laurent, Julie Ordon and Ben Jelen. The ones I'm dying to use are Rosie Huntington-Whitely, Rachel Hurd-Wood, Annie Beust, and Monica Vaughan (DO YOU NOTICE A TREND?) Does that count?
.Least Favourites. Once again, I wouldn't icon them if I didn't love them to death. However, I will never be using Patrick Fugit or Sara Ramirez myself. (Now I will undoubtedly come up with a character tomorrow that just SCREAMS 'use Callie O'Malley as my PB!)
.Requests?. Sure. Feel free. In fact, please do, requests make me feel validated. However, know that I reserve the right to turn you down if I'm too busy, find the person you want me to icon boring, or hate you. Also I will never ever icon Rumer Willis (because her face SCARES ME) or Chyler Leigh (because she MADE OUT WITH HER BROTHER IN SOME MOVIE EEW GROSS NO.)
.Affiliate?.Once again, all it takes is asking. I'll say yes unless I think you suck, in which case you'll probably want to go cry, no? I don't ask people to affiliate myself. Why? Because I cannot stand rejection, and can stand the possibility of it even less.

FAQ-y THING

Wait. What?
This journal is devoted to RolePlay. Don't know what that is? Briefly, it's pretendy fun time games. For a better answer, wikipedia it.
CDJ means Character Development Journal. It's basically a vanity thing; GJ roleplayers tend to like to show off their shinies. That's what happens here. It's also a PB-icon journal, which means I make 100x100 textless bases of pretty people with lots of different expressions, and then I let other people use them. There's really no deeper reason or redeeming value.

Why'd you icon Wibbly Woo?
Because I like her and I wanted to look at her for the hour or so it takes to make an icon set.

But everyone icons Wibbly! She's so overused.
Real answer: I icon people I like, even if everyone else likes them too. If you have a problem with my icon journal being split 50-50 between relatively obscure peeps and big names, you're welcome to faff off and look for a different icon journal. I wish you luck in the search for an iconner who hasn't done any big names at all.
Diplomatic Answer That Sounds Good: A. Just because a pb is overused doesn't mean s/he is a bad PB. Rachel McAdams, for example, can be found in nearly every game; however, she's got an incredible range of facial expressions and she looks like a real live person rather than a genetically engineered beauty from outer space. That combination makes for a really good PB; of course lots of people use her!
B. If everyone's going to use Keira anyway, they might as well have high-quality icons of her. There are several big names out there who don't get iconned by anyone but rpgicons simply BECAUSE they're big names and no one wants to touch them. A lack of high-quality icons rarely stops people who are absolutely set on someone, so we might as well supply high-quality icons.

Ok, but EVERYONE has iconned James McAvoy.
I know. He's a hottie. And I've iconned him too. The more the merrier!

How come you play Sirius and Lily as primaries? Do you even KNOW how many Sirius and Lily players there are in the world?
Yeah, I do, thanks. They're my primaries because they're the ones I have most developed and the ones I love best. Shocking, but true. I know it limits me. I'm ok with that. Besides, Lily and Sirius are two of the most frequently massacred characters in HP canon, simply BECAUSE everyone wants to play them. Mine are really, really good. Are they the best out there? Probably not. But they're nuanced, extensively developed and thought-out, and deeply flawed as well as deeply heroic. I play them well, and interestingly, and most importantly I'm careful to play them three-dimensionally. There aren't all that many people who can legitimately make that claim. So, yeah, I'm one of Those Bitches who has the two most popular characters as my primaries- but I think I'm worth it.

You're sort of vain, aren't you?
Not generally. About my writing and RPing abilities, yeah. Writing is my life. RPing is my major source of recreation. I'm good at what I do, and I have a lot of fun at it, and I'm good at making it fun for other people, too. No sense being falsely humble about that.

What's this lamb thing you're always going on about?
Now THAT would be telling. It's a long story. All I'm going to say is that lambs do not make good patroni, and if you're going to play a character with a major genetic disorder you should probably research it first. If you can figure it out from there, you've probably been around the GJ HP RP community for a while; if not, stick around, you'll run across it eventually.

You...sure have a lot of characters, doncha?
Yeah. I'm addicted. I'm not a Collector, though; I make a point of staying active with my characters, and if I can't, unless they're integral to plot (IE: Old Tom Riddle) I drop 'em.

What's with the redhead obsession?
I just really, really like red hair. Call it Freudian; my mom's a redhead, and even at 20 I'm not completely over the fact that she didn't pass on that particular trait. But I mean, there's hairdye, so really...i just like iconning them. This probably stemmed from a dearth of acceptable Lily-PBs in my early journal RPing days (Alicia Witt's face bugs me and Cintia's horrifically overused, so I didn't have many options.) Now I just like that it's my niche and gives me an excuse to look at pretty redheads all day long.

HOW CAN YOU HATE CINTIA SO MUCH?
I...totally don't. I love her. I'm just sick of seeing her as a Lily PB. Actually, that problem seems to be waning these days...maybe someday I'll approve of her again?

How come you use like 8 different people for Lily?
Yeah, I've got not excuse for that. I'm just torn like 14 different ways about who I like best.

Why Scribbld, and not [insert other journaling service here]?
I used to be on GJ; I migrated in the GJocalypse of '08. LJ is a real-life thing for me. IJ is butt ugly and I can't deal with it. CJ...no one was going to CJ. scribblit wasn't open yet. So here I am.

OMGWTF Models BBQ?
Yeah, I know, there are a LOT of them around here. I like models. I like the fashion industry. I like hanging around TFS and using iconning as an excuse to look at lots and lots of pictures of people whose faces I find beautiful. I am in fact fascinated by all the variations of what people find beautiful. And I totally disagree with the common wisdom that models make bad PBs. Our PB choices pretty much consist of people in pop culture who get their pictures taken- ie, actors, musicians, and models. Musicians rarely have enough variety in their photographs to give you a really good icon batch. So let's ignore them for a second. That leaves us with actors and models. The objection to model pbs is generally that they're "too pretty." Ok. And movie stars aren't? I mean, Megan Fox is a better example of a realistic-looking highschool-aged girl than, say, Ginta Lapina is? Really? Are you shitting me? And the thing is, actresses tend to all sport highly conventional beauty. Which is great, but if you have a game full of people like Katherine Heigl and Naomi Watts and Tamsin Egerton and...etc, ad nauseum, which is how it usually goes down no matter what intentions the mods have...then not only do you have a bunch of unrealistically hott people, you've got a bunch of people who are unrealistically hott in the exact same way. Models are, in general, unconventional looking- more striking than necessarily beautiful. So you throw a few of them into the mix and at least you've got some variety. I appreciate variety.

Plus, they usually have a majority of very HQ images, and that makes iconning fun and headache-less. I do this for the fun, not the headaches, y'all.

So what I'm saying is, if you don't like my model girls, you can just ignore them, y'know?

So why baobabble?
Because I like to think I'm clever. It's a play on words, yo! The baobab part references both the Regina Spektor song, and my favourite story of all time, St. Exupery's The Little Prince. The babble part refers to my inability to shut up about anything, ever. Witness this faq.

Stop iconning Blake Lively.
No.

Where did you get the pictures of [insert name of model here]?
The Fashion Spot. Thefashionspot.com. Also known as TFS. Pretty much invariably, my model pics are from here. So STOP ASKING ALREADY.

Can I have a TFS invite?
Um...maybe? Not gonna lie, it's kind of annoying when someone starts talking to me solely to get at my ~connections~ otherwise known as my TFS account. It's also usually pretty transparent. And then said person usually stops chatting with me the moment I hit send on that invite, and that's just bitchy, y'all. But at the same time...I get it. And really the only reason I have a TFS account myself is sheer luck, in that I signed up before they implemented the invite system, and that was years ago and no, I don't remember what caused me to sign up because at that point I wasn't into fashion or fashion models. So. All in all, I don't mind helping a brother out, but on the other hand I don't like feeling used, either. So: if you're nice about it, yes, I'll probably send you an invite. But like...be cool. Keep commenting on my posts afterward, or talk to me on TFS, or something. It's just courteous, you know?

Erm... I was wondering what your rules are for using your icons on forum(i.e proboards) roleplays. It's a bit hard to credit you in every single post, but perhaps I could make a note on the profile that you made the icons? If you're not comfortable with it, I will remove the icons I used in a pinch(the ones I'm using are in applications, currently) and make my own. If you want a link, that's also fine. Thank you for your great resource! I should be getting a scribbld account soon; I just have been lazy. I'll inform you when I do, if you want.

One more thing: Regina Spektor is god, I am now tempted to create a character just to use her a play by. Have you considered doing Amanda Palmer? She's a beauty.

Thank you!

TFS is The Fashion Spot, a site/forum about...you guessed it...fashion, which is part-fan and part-industry-based (meaning a lot of industry people actually have accounts there.) A few years ago in an attempt to make it more industry-driven, they made the forum sections private, ie requiring an invite to get an account (you're only 'supposed' to invite 'fashion insiders' or some bs like that.)

It has a really large model section in the forum with threads on basically every girl who's ever been signed. Which makes it a really, really good resource if you happen to like iconning models (hi.) I have an account there which I opened before the forum went private, so I can invite people and such. Given how many model batches I do, it's not hard for people to figure out that I have an account there, which means that every once in a while someone will strike up a conversation with me here in comments...which will invariably boil down, after about 5 or 6 comments, to a not-very-subtle 'if only I had a TFS account!' statement, and from there to a 'can i have an invite?'

I'm a nice person, so I usually oblige. And then never ever hear from said commenter again. This has happened enough times that I can pretty much spot it coming from a mile away. I still usually give the invite, but I guess I just want people to know that A. I'm on to this method and B. I think it's kind of rude. At least PRETEND to not disappear from the conversation the second you get what you want out of me, you know?

Hi there! I don't have a journal here unfortunately, but I'd like to make a request if you're not horrendously busy! I'm requesting Bogdan Angheluta, who is adorable, but he has a terrible lack of icons anywhere. I'm a huge fan of your work, you get shots that I've never even seen before on so many people. :D Bogdan is a model, who doesn't seem to have a huge portfolio at the moment, but he's done enough that Googling him will bring up a good crop of shots.

If you need to contact me (I'll be stalking these here parts in any case) my email is she.eats.worlds@gmail.com and my LJ is withserendipity. Thank you in advance!

Hi Sara! I wanted to let you know that things over at ~icontheworld on IJ are up and running again, and that your claim on England and Wales has moved over to our Hall of Fame since you've iconned more than 50 subjects! Check it out! We'll make you a banner soon, but in the meantime you can keep posting new subjects, and if you'd like you can pick a new primary region or make your secondary (Scotland & Ireland) a primary.

Idk what the new "Share Page" weirdness is, but is there a way to actually... open the PB directory links? >> All it's letting me do is send the page to Twitter or Facebook or what have you.

Would you be willing to make Tobey Maguire icons? (I'd love NON-Spiderman ones!!) there is a distinct lack on the internet and I think you're just the person to fill that void. Mmmhm. :)

It's James. From AM. I've been using your icons since I started RPing like two years ago. AND I HAD NO IDEA THIS WAS YOU UNTIL JUST NOW. ♥ You're amazing with your icons. JUST SO YOU KNOW.

I've caved and finally made an account on scribbld because Insanejournal is just too horrible with roleplay now and I was wondering if you could point me in the direction of any games?
