Do As You Will

Apparently this server was off, not sure why. I've brought it back online. If anyone still uses or wants to use this service please feel free too. There is 0 support for this site and service and you are using at your own risk. Enjoy?

**IMPORTANT** Read Me! Scribbld Migration! **IMPORTANT**

You may be wondering where all your journal entries, comments, userpics, etc are located. At this time we've migrated from using the very old (and when I say I old, I mean, really really really old) LiveJournal code-base to the newer and continually worked on Dreamwidth code. Don't worry though, all your entries, comments, user pics, etc, are just a click away. You can still access your old entries at Scribbld.us. We also have setup a special import tool which allows you to import your old entries, userpics, etc into the new site. Please note depending on how much the tool is being used it may take some time for all your content to be imported over. Please also note that we'll be resetting anyone who has a paid account (it may just take some time to reconcile the databases).

We will also be changing the site theme as well, however we're not sure when we can fit that into the current schedule at this point. We'll be keeping the Scribbld.us domain around for AT LEAST a year, so everyone has PLENTY of time to import their old content into the new site.

You can find the import tool here - http://scribbld.com/tools/importer

To Scribbld or To Not Scribbld

 Hello Gang,

As you've all likely noticed Scribbld has been completely dormant in terms of development and support. At this time neither myself or [info]morgan has the time to dedicate to this site. We've got a bunch of other projects we're working on and find them be a lot more fun then attempting to poke and revive 7 year old code. At this time development has completely halted and will not start up again. The LiveJournal development community is next to nothing and support from them is next to nonexistent. Unfortunately because of the way the code is setup and the languages it is developed in we cannot support it either.

At this time, we will not be developing any further fixes or features. Support will also not be available as we do not have any extra time to allocate to the Scribbld project. We will however continue to keep the server online and it'll be available for you to continue using until the hard drives die.

If anyone would like to sponsor us we'd be happy to setup a new server using the Dreamwidth code base. If interested shoot me an email - jimmy.brancaccio@gmail.com. Please note, that it will be a decent financial investment for you, likely starting at a minimum of $2500. But if enough people come together maybe it'll be possible!

Thank you everyone for all the support and good times we had! :)

Spammers and Invite Codes

Greetings Journalers,

I apologize for the lack of updates about what's going on. We've been very busy working on other projects and with real life. That said, yes, we're requiring all new accounts to be created using Invite codes. Why? Because we're experiencing a massive amount of spam and it's causing a lot of problems on the server, specifically the database system. Any Permanent, Early Adopters, and Special Early Donator Accounts and Paid Accounts should have the ability to generate invite codes. I would like to extend the opportunity for everyone else to get invite codes without paying a single cent. Anyone who can report spam blogs to me (a comment on this entry will suffice) will get an invite code PER spam blog. A minimum of 10 spam blogs must be reported to get your invite code(s). I can then manually generate codes for you. If you'd rather pay, we have Permanent and Paid Accounts for sale. Permanent Accounts can be purchased for a one time $100 fee - payment can be sent to payments@scribbld.com (remember to include your username).

As mentioned we're not really actively developing Scribbld.com -- however there are some outstanding features and bugs we'd like to finish up and close in the near future.

We hope everyone is doing well and happy Spring!

[info]jimmy  & [info]morgan

Update: I've run out of codes, and it looks like they decided to remove the code/module which allows me to manually generate as many codes as I want from the codebase :( Boooo!! I'll try to come up with someone to fix this, in the meantime if you're feeling generous you can still let me know spam journals and I can get them removed from our site.

The State of Scribbld 2012

I apologize everyone for the lack of updates on the website. I've been extremely busy with work and other projects that have just consumed so much of my time. One site and project I've been spending a lot of time on lately is MyVideoGameList.com. It allows anyone to sign up for an account and track their video games they're playing or have played before.

The biggest issue with Scribbld is that the LiveJournal coding and development team make it very very hard for anyone using their code to run their own website and stay updated with their codebase. We have fallen so incredibly far behind it's almost near impossible to update our codebase to be identical with theirs. It's likely we actually will never be able too. They also make it far too difficult to upgrade and keep the customizations you've done in place.

There's a few things however that I would like to accomplish before throwing in the towel (let's just hope it doesn't come to this.) I would like to get reCaptcha working for signups because it's pretty obvious the current captcha system isn't working and massive amounts of spam is being sent to the site and database. I am sure we'd all appreciate a little less spam. There's also 3-4 behind the scenes things I'd like to get working or working again.

I have setup our Paid Account status checking tool as well as our purged/deleted Username list tool.

Paid Accounts Checking tool
Purged & Deleted Usernames checking tool

I should also mention our status website has been re-setup and shows real-time statuses of the system services - http://status.scribbld.net

I hope everyone is well, and welcome to all of our new users and hello again to my old users and friends. I will definitely try to keep more of eye on Scribbld from here on out.

Thank you everyone!

~ Jimmy & Morgan

Summer Time!

Hello fellow journalers!

It's that time of the year again, we're offering up 10 Permanent Accounts for $100 each. You can view this page for more information on what you can get from a permanent account. All proceeds will go into the server payments and hardware.

In the coming weeks we're looking to do a code upgrade which will bring us to newer, more secure, and hopefully a quicker code-base. We expecting things to break so give us a couple days to iron things out and get things back to normal should things go funky.

Other than that we don't have much else. We hope everyone is enjoying their summer (USA). It's roasting hot down here in TX but decent back home in VT. Wherever you are we hope you're staying safe and having fun!

Happy Spring!

Hello all!

We hope you're all well and enjoying the nicer weather...down here in TX we're been having some great weather, however back home in VT it snowed yesterday and was 34F, so I guess it all depends where you reside! We've been working on developing a script which notifies you when your paid account is about to expire. If you've purchased a paid account within the last month you've been added to this script. You can also search your account to see when it's about to expire.

http://scribbld.richardwat.com/paid/

We're looking to add a second web server into the mix at some point in the upcoming months. Other then that we don't have much else to report.

Happy New Year!

Hello all!

First off, apologies to the people who bought paid accounts in the last couple weeks. We were not watching the email account which PayPal notifies us about purchases. We've gone through all the emails and setup the paid accounts now, we're definitely sorry about the delay.

We don't have a whole lot in store for 2011, just keep everything running, possibly work on any open bugs and such. While I can't confirm or deny we're working on rename tokens it's certainly in the list of "stuff to get done". We do have a whole bunch of usernames for sale, you can visit http://scribbld.richardwat.com to see the list and how to purchase them.

We hope everyone had a great holiday season and new years! Here's to an awesome 2011!

PS. Anyone get anything cool for Christmas?!

Happy Halloween!

Hey all!

I was having a look around the code on the site this evening and I noticed we had all those un-used, purged/deleted usernames which no one was using so I thought about trying to get the rename tokens working again. Unfortunately, it's just far to much work to get rename tokens working, so I built a little script which shows you all the current deleted usernames which are available. As before, each username is $4 per name. Just PayPal us the money and we'll generate a new password for the account and email it to you.

For an extremely limited time only the first five people can help me test/debug this by requesting a single username. Just email me (jimmy@scribbld.com) with your one username and we'll test it out!

You can see the script here -- http://scribbld.richardwat.com

Once these 5 usernames are gone, it'll be $4 per username.

That said, we hope everyone is well and looking forward to Halloween. It's certainly one of our favorite holidays!

Always,

The Scribbld Team <3

Update: Thank you for those who participated in our little test. All seems to have gone well, so we're now open for business and you can purchase any of the usernames from the list. This morning I also added 250+ new usernames to the list.

Happy Birthday Scribbld

A few days ago, July 19th was the 3rd birthday of Scribbld. I can't believe it's been this long. I would really like to thank everyone who uses this site and enjoys it. I know there's broken things, and updates which we probably need to apply. While I've definitely put Scribbld on the backburner for a while, both [info]morgan and I would like to to find some time to apply patches and work on bug fixes. I cannot guareentee anything, but we're certainly going to try.

We'd like to offer 3 full paid accounts with 100 extra user pics to the first 3 people who comment. Please comment from the account you'd like us to upgrade. If you've already got a paid account you're not eligible at this time as well as Early Adopters (trust me the EA account is better). We'd like new users to take this up (Free Account users).

Graphics designers we've also got an oppurtunity for you to snag a paid account. We need a new image designed for a new server we've acquired. More information can be found here.

Again, thank you everyone for making it a lovely 3 years. Here's to another awesome year!

Update: All the 3 accounts are gone, thank you everyone! Also to those who received one, they're good for 1 year from today (July 31st).

Summertime!

Hello all! [info]urgent here, doing [info]jimmy a big favor by writing this entry for him. Since I'm new at this I'll try to keep this short and sweet.

If my memory serves me right I do believe [info]jimmy is making future plans to reinstate username change tokens. Unfortunately he's got a long to-do list and I haven't heard him mention what price he would charge. [info]jimmy will try to keep you guys updated about it or I'll badger him enough about it until he does, lol.

As far as I know, server status is fine and have been backlogged. In other words it should be smooth driving, folks.

Also, if you have any means of helping us promote this website we would greatly appreciate it. Of course we don't have any money to give you but a pat on your back should do, right? ;P

Last but not least, we appreciate all our users here. Each of you make this place feel like a second home. If you have any problems regarding this website please notify [info]jimmy immediately.

That's everything. Have a fun and safe Memorial Day weekend and a great summer! :D

Happy New Year

A Happy New Year to everyone! We hope every had a fun and safe New Years, we sure did. I hope everyone has noticed how much smoother and hopefully snappier Scribbld has been running since our transition to the new server provided to us by CrystalTech. Nothing much else to report, however one of our dear admin's [info]morgan is leaving us to head off to a new adventure across the country. She'll be training in California for horse back riding and will be gone until the end of the Spring 2010, so it'll just be me working on the servers and such. If anyone is familiar with Perl, Javascript, or CSS we could certainly use a hand! Anyone also familiar with the LJ codebase is definitely in high demand.

As a thank you for a fun, bumpy, crazy 2009 we'd like to offer 5 free 3 month paid accounts to the first 5 people who comment on this entry. Just leave a comment with the name of the journal you'd like to have paid status on.

We've started up [info]scribbld_top5 again so be sure to nominate someone or yourself!

Thank you and Happy New Year from Scribbld xoxoxo

Hello December 2009!

UPDATE: Interested in a free 6 month Paid Account?! Check out this entry for more information!

Wow, so that was a bit of a bumpy ride this last week and we certainly apologize for the downtime. We're now on a brand new shiny server which has been graciously provided by CrystalTech. We certainly recommend using them if you're looking for a web host or even your own dedicated server! You can read more information at [info]system if you're looking for the nitty gritty.

That said, we're all back up and running at full speed! As mentioned on our temporary Scribbld site, if you've got a Paid Account we'd love to compensate you for the time we were down, so please create a new support thread in our support queue so we can make sure you get an extra month!

Please also report any issues to our support queue as well so we can work with you to resolve any issues. At this time, everything should be working as before.

We hope everyone has a safe, fun and awesome holiday season!

xoxoxo

Hey everyone,

We had a semi-rough July. One of the power lines got corroded which led to a fair amount of downtime this month. The power line issue has been resolved, but in doing so, they accidently snipped the Internet line. We have a quick fix in place, but at some point the line will need to be replaced with something more permanent. We do not have a set date on when this is going to happen at the moment. Watch [info]system for more information about this.

Not much else to report at the moment.

Thanks and we hope everyone is having an awesome summer! :)

OHAI July!

Hey everyone!

Of course we had to start off July with a bit of a bump, but operations have resumed as normal and we shouldn't be having any more issues.

That said, we're not bringing in enough revenue at the moment, for this project to be very worthwhile to me. We the staff at Scribbld dump an ungodly amount of time into developing, supporting and working on this site, and not one account has been purchased in I can't even tell you how long. This isn't to say we're not grateful to the people who do purchase accounts and such and help us with the site, but this site has become quite the job. I love doing it, I love most of you all, but I cannot continue making this site such a priority.

That said, we're not going away, not even close! But we are likely going to be cutting back on account features and such, just so our few servers can handle the loads and such. Support will happen when it happens. As we've mentioned before this site was designed to be used by 10 people at most and now we've got almost 30,000 users! It's crazy! And I appreciate each and every single person who uses this site.

Ok, so! We've still got ALL 10 permanent accounts for sale, at $100 a pop. 95% of the money generated from the sale of these account is going right back into Scribbld and the new server. We're looking to buy some new hard drives to store data on. I might spend the last 5% on myself, buy an ice cream or something...

[info]scribbld_top5 is back up and we're looking for some new Top 5 people!

I hope everyone has a safe and fun July, GO BLOW SOME SHIT UP FOR ME!!!

June Already, WTF?!?!

Hello everyone!! As usual I am impressed with the time of the year it is already! I can't believe it's June! I feel like it was just barely Fall and then Winter, and here we are, JUNE!!!

A couple of important announcements!

Renames/Rename Tokens
First, we'd like to thank everyone who tested out the rename tokens. A little free event we held to test out some new code in our site. It looks like it went well. It was a learning experience for both you and us. While we're no longer offering free renames, we'll be working on the actual rename tokens so you can purchase one and use it to rename your account to a name that's either not taken or one that you own! I believe we'll be setting the price for a single rename token to be $10.

Username Purchasing
Because we've implemented the renaming system, we'll no longer be selling usernames in [info]usernames. So please do not send us money asking to purchase a username from there.

Permanent Accounts Sale!!
Our new server is coming along very well. We'd like to thanks the people who've been purchasing Paid Accounts or who did buy a couple or or a few usernames from us. We've got 95% of the server parts we need. The only thing left is storage space, which is 6x1TB hard drives. Yes, you guys seemingly like to write lots of entries and have ton of userpics, which is totally cool, but we need somewhere to store them!! We're selling 10 permanent accounts at $100 each. A permanent account gets you tons more stuff, notably 1500 userpics. So if you want to help us out with the last bit of the new server build, please either purchase a Permanent account or think about getting a paid account, it's all very much appreciated!! If you're interested in purchasing a permanent account, please just PayPal us directly (james.brancaccio@gmail.com), there's no option for it on the Paid Accounts page!

Also, don't forget to hit up [info]scribbld_top5!

Happy June everyone!!

May Flowers?!

Heya journalists!

It's already May, it's ridiculous how fast time flies! But I guess as the saying goes, when you're having fun, time flies!! And it sure does!

We've been trying to come up with a couple ways to get people interacting more. We've been looking into multiple webchat/IM solutions, and we're hoping to have something figured out soon! In the mean time, hit up [info]scribbld_top5 and nominate yourself or a friend!!

We've also installed the Component and Boxer styles, so feel free to check them out. We'll likely be making them Paid only in the coming days.

As always, we're looking for new site designs, so if you know XHTML/CSS, please, do up something kickass!!

Have a wonderful May everyone!!
