Okay, gaming world.
You see this shit?

Don't fucking do it again.

This is exactly the kind of crap that angers me in the gaming world. I couldn't stomach the so-called "review" all the way through (Partially because of the audio. I can barely hear her with my current laptop speakers and my headphones are busted.), but what I saw was enough to make me want to break something.

Don't get me wrong, I don't hate the casual gamer. I support more people getting into video games and supporting the industry and hopefully creating a larger fanbase. In fact, hardcore gamers can be pointed out as part of the reason that the industry is kind of stuck in the same loop of games over and over due to how jaded they are. If you casual game and are completely honest with yourself about what you are, then I support you. Don't be afraid to check out other games. Before you know it, you might make the cross between "casual gamer" to "hardcore" and not even realize it.

And I don't hate things like "booth babes". If your job is to be pretty, go you. Be pretty. Earn money. Stimulate the economy by buying Coach bags, Prada shoes, or whatever the devil it is you models think is worthy of your cash these days. If that's your thing, that's cool. And really, there is some off chance that said booth babes might actually have held a controller for more than a few minutes in their lives. However, while they're looking to make money by standing around and looking good, that's almost irrelevant. Either way, more power to them.

However, don't go and pretend to be a female gamer, doing a review of a game that you've obviously never played in a little tank top because you're trying to pander to the 16-35 year old male demographic who are more likely staring at your tits than actually listening to what you have to say about games. You're demeaning the real female gamer who has actually played that game more times than your estimated attention span can handle. Honestly if you want to pander to males with your looks where nothing that comes out of your mouth (or goes into it for that matter *rimshot*) actually matters or amounts to anything, you're probably better suited for porn. Just saying.

My first warning when watching this video should have been when this so called "gamer girl" who apparently goes by the name of "Kimmy" referred to the females in Devil May Cry as "hot". Okay, there's no denying that Lady and Trish are attractive, but this was obviously done to pander to the male fantasy of a bisexual female. "A bisexual girl who games? *insert orgasm here*" This only leads me to believe that if this girl does actually claim to be bisexual, she does it for the attention she can get from it, and not because she's truly non-discriminate about who she could potentially be with. This is not only insulting to girl gamers, but insulting to actual bisexuals who are not only serious about their orientation, but have to go through a plethora of discrimination just because they're wired differently than most of the world.

I digress. I believe that may be a different rant for another time.

However the review gets better as it goes, with this "gamer" referring to Dante as "that guy." Uh, excuse me, honey, but "that guy" is who the Devil May Cry series revolves around up until Devil May Cry 4. And even then, in 4, you wind up playing "that guy" for a good portion of the game and he's still an integral part of the story. If you had actually played the game beyond the goddamn tutorial, you'd know "that guy's" name.

But it gets even better. She then claims Dante is "hard to kill". Okay, this statement, outside of it's current context, may be true. Dante is not an easy character to get rid of just based on the story alone, and I admit he's kicked my ass as Nero before, but only outside of the damn tutorial. Tutorial!Dante is supposed to help you figure out how to use Nero's abilities, and he's not supposed to be that hard to beat. He can be momentarily annoying if you're doing it wrong, but he's not supposed to be difficult.

Honestly, after this, I couldn't watch the video anymore. It was obvious that "Kimmy" hadn't actually played the game (or if she did, she didn't understand it), and her idiotic statements including such gems as "REALLY BIG SWORDS!!!!!111oneeleven" (More pandering via innuendo? I'm not sure) and "It's as gory as you want your video games to be." had me wanting to strangle her, quite frankly. Not to mention her tactics (Tactics in a hack n slash? lol) had me rolling my eyes so hard I think they may have almost fallen out of my head at one point. "I like to get up in that guy's face." Nero has a gun for a reason, honey. Oh right, you didn't make it past the tutorial.

Really, this is everything that is wrong with the current status of women in gaming and even just women's place in the world. It's still about being pretty and fulfilling a stereotypical male fantasy than actually being your own woman and having a goddamn personality that isn't "I'm a bisexual who likes things that you like, leading you to believe you might have a chance with me! Tee hee!"

Way to set us back at least 60 years, Kimmy. Way to set us back.

Your Goddess and Mistress,

Shinimegami

I actually did watch the entire video just to see how ridic it was. She actually does say Dante's name about three quarters of the way through it, but still. I was like lol how many times did you see his name before you finally got it through your head? Like you said, the whole series is based off him.

The problem, I think, is that somehow the media seems to believe that male gamers won't take female gamers seriously unless they are pretty and have giant tits ><;. But then, what male gamer is going to take this seriously? If there were more serious female gamer reviews, I actually think that they'd be respected. I mean, you'll always have your male pigs out there, but overall they'd be valued more than these "booth babes" or whatever. "Booth babes" shouldn't do more than turn the damn console on and put the disc in.

But that's what's wrong with our society. Granted, things are a lot better than they were in 1950, but when you see things like this, it's clear that there's still sexism to some level that is still going on.

That said, I think if you reviewed this game you'd do a damn good job doing it. Just saying.

And don't get me started on the society perception of bisexual women because of shit like this.

Oh, so she does know is name? I was doubting it after she referred to him as "that guy" 40 times. >_>

Really, the whole "booth babes" thing is kind of demeaning in it's own right (the idea that women are pieces of meat to only be valued for beauty, etc), but it seems clear to me what they're there for. There's no pretense. They're not trying to make themselves look like actual gamers, they're there to be pretty, which is along the same context of a model. Which really, my problems with that (I guess I lied, I do have a couple) would be an entirely different post. If I had gone there, I probably would have gotten off on a tangent though. :X

Basically, the thing is, gaming is still seen as a predominantly male activity, and while I understand playing to your audience as a marketing technique, but there is a way to actually do that with some class instead of...well, this bullshit.

Haha, don't tempt me. XD I'd be late to the party, but you know I'd kind of love it.

THAT happened to be another tangent I was trying not to go on. I was sorely tempted though, trust me.

Yeah I was actually surprised to hear her say his name x_x. And I could probably only hear the audio because I'm currently wearing good headphones but I digress.

I feel you. I can't decide which is more demeaning tbh.

*TEMPTS TEMPTS* XDD

I'm trying not to also. Because then that gets into a rant about my own family, and I have enough shit I feel bitchy about tonight.

I need a new pair sadly. D: I'm so hard on headphones. ><;

It's a really close call, but I feel like pandering to make the men watching feel like they have a chance at a threesome with some video game playing bimbo is slightly more demeaning. Both are pretty bad though.

If I did, it would be highly biased tbch.

Yeah, I wasn't feeling that bitchy tonight until I saw that mess. Just set me off.

For the record Kimmy's audio was that bad to begin with. I'm blaming it on what seems to be the lack of a microphone and her being in a big room. I think big walls in big rooms distort sound waves.

If it makes you feel any better I couldn't stand watching the entire video either. The whole experience of her being unable to even get past the Nero tutorials well made me facepalm. This wasn't a video game review at all. It was a travesty. I'm under the impression the people who own that website just have her and that video on there so they can try to get male gamers like me distracted from the skimpy dressed woman.

I knew Kimmy's audio was bad, but I also have less than functional equipment, which isn't exactly aiding in the process either. Either way, that was beside the point since Kimmy didn't say anything worth listening to in the first place.

Honestly, if someone could facepalm and headdesk at the same time, I probably would have done it. This just drags actual female gamers down, and I'm really not surprised when my male contemporaries look at me and go "LOL UR A GAMER?"

Yes, hon. I'm a gamer. An actual one.
