If there was anything the Composer Kiryuu Yoshiya loved more than Shibuya – it is His city after all – it was His proxy, one Sakuraba Neku. He would say that it was His duty to ensure the safety of the boy, although others would disagree.

His Producer had been His informant for the past few weeks, letting him know of the developments in the teen’s life. However, His self imposed exile from the city, and with it the life of Neku was about to end. The Game had ended for this particular week, the game master falling quickly to the determined players.

He decided to materialise in the WildKat café, much to the amusement of Mr. Hanekoma. Ignoring the mans grin – that if he was honest; was bordering on slightly lecherous – he stepped out into the RG part of the city.

Following the distinctive music of His proxy, he found him sat on a bench, his back towards the particular entrance He had chosen, without his group of close friends – how strange, Mr Hanekoma had said that the group had arranged to meet here today – head tilted back and, covering his ears were his headphones. Well, that would never do.

Silently approaching the boy, He let out a soft giggle, before effortlessly vaulting over the back of the bench to sit next to Neku.

“Now dear, don’t you think you’re being a bit rude?” He asked, simultaneously pulling the headphones off Neku’s head, and snuggling into his side.

“What the hell?!” As soon as the headphones had been pulled off his head, Neku had leapt into the air, making Him giggle once more. “Josh? What are you doing here?”

“Is it a crime for me to want to visit my favourite proxy?” His voice held the same teasing lilt it had done in their time in the Game. “After all, it has been such a long time since I’ve seen you.”

Neku sighed and reached for his headphones. Joshua giggled and hung them from His finger, holding them out of reach. “I thought you’d grown out of this particular habit…?” He chided softly.

“Sometimes it’s better to drown out people’s noise. Other times – like in this particular case – it helps pass the time.” He made a soft ‘hmm’ noise at His proxy’s confession. A grin flashed over His features before He placed the headphones on, giggling softly at the confused look on Neku’s face.

“I just want to see what you’re listening to Neku dear.” He flashed the boy a winning smile. “You don’t mind do you?” He took Neku’s sigh as a slightly irritated indication that no, he didn’t mind his headphone being used by Him.

As He listened to the noise masquerading as music, He wondered why he had taken an interest in Neku in the first place. However, when a softer song came on – one about an ‘us’ being against ‘the world’ – He realised that he hadn’t been wrong in His choice.

Joshua was about to open up to Neku and tell him what He thought of the song, when a small ‘click’ rang through the air, accompanied by a soft, light laugh. Looking up He saw the young girl – Bito Raimu, known as Rhyme, His mind told him – stood with a camera.

She smiled brightly when she noticed him staring. “It’s not often Neku shares his headphones, so I thought I should take a photograph as proof.”

He smiled lightly at her and took off the headphones. “Indeed. If you could give a copy to Neku for me I would be most obliged.” He bowed His head to Neku and Rhyme. “I’m afraid I must leave now, as I have other matters to attend to.” He left much as He had come, a silent, commanding yet unnoticed presence amongst the population.

He was not surprised by anything for the next few days, not Shibuya, not the player, and not the reapers. However, a week after He had met His proxy and His proxy’s friend, He made the journey to WildKat once more.

“Hey Boss, phones dropped this off for you this morning.” He looked at the small pieces of paper in the Producer’s hands and took them. The first was plain white, and blank except for the – obviously hastily – scrawled writing that simply said “For you – Neku.” He moved it aside to reveal what secrets it hid. There in His hands, was a photo of Him, in Neku’s headphones on His head, looking deep in thought.

”Just something I asked for.” He said, smiling as the Producer looked at Him from over his glasses. And it is far superior to my expectations.”

“Right, Josh.” Hanekoma drawled a self-satisfied smirk painting his features. “And that’s why you’re looking like a lovesick schoolgirl then?”?
