Characters: Jack Dolios/Hermes and OPEN
Setting: In and around Campus
Content: SFW
Summery: Hermes is off to play a popularity game. At this rate, he might have to consider running for President of the United States.

Popularity was a bit like business. It was all in how well you presented a finished package to the public, carefully manipulating factors in order to increase demand, finding the medium ground that appealed to the majority of one's target demographics, and lastly how well one sold themselves in the end. 'Jack' had found his favorite road in the university. He was one part athlete, one part honor student, one part party animal, and one part volunteer. It allowed him to reach out in multiple areas at once, even over lapping into the fringe areas where the less hard-core students lurked about in a generally dismal social life. All in all he was a sure win, in his book, for the upcoming student body elections. Which, granted, wouldn't happen until about October, but he never saw harm in getting a quick start.

He shaved, ran his fingers through his hair, dabbed cologne his neck and dressed up like a proper gentleman before leaving his dorm for the first time in months. Moving through the building, he plotted out his best course of action between brief waves and nods to the various other tenants. Women would be the easiest to win over. Not that he wasn't above batting for the home team to get his way, it was just that most of the other men were terrible sensitive about it. Which was a shame, they really did not know what they were missing.

But their loss.

Pushing the door open, and stepping out into the sun, Hermes smirked a little before looking at his cellphone. Four o'clock. Too early for the bars, but perfect for a quick breeze through the student union. And, he reasoned, always a good place to find plenty of young, impressionable girls.

"By Olympus," he said to himself as he started to walk, "I love being me." Grinning, he chuckled a little, before beginning to whistle a little tune. There was, after all, no need to rush.

Coffee Break (Open to anyone)

Characters: Ira and Open
Setting: A cafe near University of Chicago, Monday afternoon
Rating: SFW?
Content: Ira is reading webcomics and drinking coffee when something interesting happens!

Her parents told her she wasn't allowed to move back home, not even for the summer, for fear that she would end up like her older brother Efraim. He had been living at home for two whole years and wasn't doing anything with his life according to her parents. Ira wouldn't fight that though, she didn't mind staying in Chicago for summer, she preferred to take summer classes anyway. They were a lot less stressful and most of the time it was easy to convince professors to take the class outside. She had signed up for early morning classes so she could have the rest of the day.

With her classes down she walked over to the cafe right near campus. It was one of those smaller mom and pop places that always made bank off the college crowd. She liked the place, it had a homey feel to it and the prices were reasonable. After ordering an iced coffee, Ira selected one of the smaller tables in the cafe with her laptop. She sipped on her coffee while reading one the updates to her favorite webcomic. In her own little world she snorted at one of the jokes, her face turning bright red. She was grateful that she hadn't been sipping on her coffee when she laughed.

Lets get this party started (open to whoever)

Zeus settled himself on a bench across the street from the university. It was a warm day, moving steadily towards hot, but this bench would be in the shade for at least another two hours. He was dressed well, but by no means richly. He fit right in with the academics who passed into and out of the campus. Since the summer session had started a few days ago, the neighborhood had once again filled up students, and it was time to go to work. By his side was a briefcase; a nice one, but worn a bit at the corners.

A few minutes passed and a young student left the campus. He casually crossed the street, bought a soda from the corner store, then sat next to Zeus on the bench. Looking in the opposite direction, Zeus waited until a few pedestrians passed by, then muttered, "Which course?"

The student seemed intent on a game on his iphone. "Intro to Western Civ." was the muttered response.

"Professor Johnson, or Carter?"

"Carter."

Zeus turned and picked up his briefcase, opening it on his lap. He quickly flicked through a number of folders until the one labeled "West Civ Carter" and slipped a sheet of paper out. He deftly folded the paper and slid it inside the sports section of the Chicago Tribune which lay on top of the folders.

The student spoke aloud for the first time, "Excuse me, sir? Could I see the sports section for a minute?"

"Sure. Keep it, I'm done reading it." He pulled the sports section from the rest of the paper and passed it to the young man.

"Thanks!" he replied, and slid the folded up $50 bill into Zeus's hand as he took the paper. The young man stuffed the newspaper into his backpack and headed back towards campus. Zeus watched him go.

So far, so good...

It had been a simple enough matter to get a copy of what courses were offered during the university's summer session, and who the professors were. After that, he just used an online test generator to produce each professor's "final exam". All that was left was to collect the cash.

He had begun by stopping into a bar frequented by the students, and casually let it slip that he "worked in the photocopying department" on campus. Just a little backstory, a mention of how crazy the day had been making copies of all the final exams, and he had their attention.

People believe what they want to believe, and at that moment they had wanted to believe him. After taking a list of their courses and returning the next night with their "finals", he had made a tidy profit. He secretively let it be known that he would make himself available for the next week or so, at a different location each day, in case any of their friends might also need anything.

Today would be the last day of this particular scam. For a total outlay of $60 in ink and paper, he had cleared just over $5000 in a week. A good take. And, as a bonus, when these dumb kids actually took their finals some time in the end of July and discovered that the exam looked nothing like the one they had bought, most of them wouldn't even remember what he looked like.

Smiling, he closed the briefcase, lit a cigarette, and leaned back on the bench.

Next!
