Summary: Casey is on his way back to his dorm and has a mess to clean up

What was one person's trash was another's treasure. It was for that reason that Casey paid regular trips to a local junkyard to see what he could salvage out of the crap other people threw away. From broken radios to busted televisions, Casey usually ended up walking away with a box full of new parts and a smile on his face.

This time he was rather unhappy with his choice of a box. The underside had not been well taped and it felt like it was about to give way any second, even as he tried to hold it closed with as much of his hand as he could. He managed to make it back on campus and was nearly to the Beauregard dormitory when the box had finally had enough. With a series of loud crashed, the bottom of the box dumped its contents onto the walkway.

Casey just looked down at the mess and swore.

Content: Rowan goes to the library often. This is not new. However, she doesn't always see Adriana there...

There was a lot of research of her own to do still, but Rowan was putting that aside in favor of getting her actual school work finished. She liked to stay ahead of the game, so to speak, when it came to her academics, so the project that she was working on was one that wasn't due for a few weeks. The way Rowan saw it, if she did all of the work that she knew about when she could, she was both more free to do other things, and anything else that came up wouldn't be in addition to regular classwork. The beginning of each semester was often a flurry of work for her, just trying to get a little ahead to get that breathing room. It felt like she might need it.

Heading into the stacks in the library, after walking past the librarian who knew her well at this point, Rowan went over to the section that held the books that she needed. Just because she wasn't good at the practical aspects of Defense Against the Dark Arts, didn't mean that she couldn't at least know the theories well. Her project was for that class, and she decided to study up on the background. With a solid background, she felt she could perhaps get a better handle on the spellwork that would be involved with it. Her attention diverted by looking at the books in front of her, anything could happen around her without her knowledge.

Students,

There has been some dedicated planning in the works through the summer months, and now that things are finalized, it is our pleasure to make this announcement. We would like to welcome the return of Strife!

For those who are not familiar, Strife used to be held here at the Crescent City Institutue back before the Vietnam War. It was stopped for a time, but we have decided that now is the time to bring the tournament back to the school. Some details about Strife are:

1) This is a school wide tournament. Participants are to pair up with the other student of their choice in order to participate. Only two students per team please, and no solo entries will be accepted.

2) You have to be a Sophomore or above, regardless of age, in order to ensure that you have the proper grounding in the basic spellwork necessary, and you may not be on Academic Probation currently.

3) The games will begin on Halloween night at 9:00 in the Commons when the Headmistress will announce the start.

4) Strife includes feats of endurance, spellwork, maneuvering, riddles, strategy, wandwork and critical thinking. These events will last the school year and will be spaced out in order to ensure that all participants will be able to keep up with their regular school work and all extracurricular activities, including Quidditch and Quodpot.

Prizes will be announced on Halloween Night, but will include such things as House Points, Galleons, a Cruise, badges for your robes, and many other things.

Students have until October 30th at Midnight to sign up on the board outside of the Headmistress’ Office. Both students in a team must be entered at the same time.

2011 Homecoming Dance

Setting: Friday evening, dance hall
Content: NSFW. We know that by now.
Summary: Homecoming dance and festivities! (Sorry it's late guys -_-)

The hall was decked out in the colors of house Sonnier, champions of the homecoming game against the San Diego Academy that happened just before the dance. Players and spectators had just enough time to shower and change before the dance in their honor was started. Teachers, administration, heads of house and staff were all present for the dance, and Professor Simmons wore an extra special outfit just for the occasion. Her silver, sparkling pant-suit was almost as bright as the lights around the dance floor.

House and school pride were high tonight, as they should be. There was nothing like a win to start off the school year, or the quodpot season. It was a good thing that there weren't any real injuries for CCI tonight, though all who attended the game would admit that when the quod exploded between the two players, it was a rather spectacular sight. No doubt that would be a topic of conversation around the punchbowl this evening.

Summary: Rowan goes out to try some new spells and accidentally might almost set someone on fire. Whoops?

Picking a place on the commons that was fairly out of the way, Rowan decided to go out and try some new spells, and some old ones that had given her trouble, before the dance was underway. There was so much going on with her that she figured that a little more practice wouldn't hurt, and she had her dress and such already picked out. So after hurrying to change out of her uniform, she grabbed her wand and her ever-present bag and set off to blow off some steam. Or possibly create some.

A short while later, she had managed to change her shoes back from their new purple color and though she wasn't sure why the levitation charm had done that, she wasn't going to let it get her down. Opening her textbook and her journal to a new page, she studied the incantation before her and frowned. This was one that for some reason always gave her trouble, but with a little tutoring recently and some new-found courage to try it, she bit her lip and crumpled up a piece of paper. Setting it on the ground, she backed off a few steps and turned to face it. Taking a deep breath, she pointed her wand at the unoffensive bit of white paper and tried to confidently cast her spell.

"INCENDIO!"

Each class will vote for their own representative. So the Junior class, and the Junior class alone, will vote for the Junior class representative, and so on. Votes for person who have not been nominated will not be taken into account. Everyone is able to vote for the President, Vice President, Treasurer, and Secretary.

We are implementing a new system for nomination acceptance. You are now allowed to accept two (2) total nominations. If you win one of them, the other will not be counted and the winner in the second category will be the person with the next highest votes. If you win both, you will tell the faculty what position you will be accepting the win for, and the other category will then proceed as described.

For example, Kevin is nominated for President, Vice President, and Junior Class Representative. He declines Junior Class Representative, and runs for both President and Vice President. He wins both categories and decides that he would make a better Vice President. He then declines President, and Ramona who has the second most votes for President, becomes the Student Council President.

Summary: Quinn is out, sees Em, and jumps on the chance to talk. They have some catching up to do.

The first week back of school was almost over. All in all, it wasn't too bad, and she had the feeling she was going to thoroughly enjoy her choice of career. It was also a hell of a lot better than having to deal with normal classes.

Quinn had spent some time downtown to grab some food and made her way back towards the Transitional dorm with a lazy stride. It wasn't hard to spot the brightly coloured hair in the common room and she wasted little time in coming up behind her. She never received an apology for macking on her brother, but Quinn decided over the summer to just get on with it. The lack of someone to talk to made being pissy at Em a huge downside.

Humming to herself quietly, Rowan sat at the table in the common room and glanced at the clock on the wall. Well, that was odd. It had been almost a half an hour that she had been waiting there, and Yev was nowhere to be found. They had agreed to meet to work on this really awesome project of his, and he was a no show! Rowan sighed a little and looked at the books around her. Well, she could probably gather them all up again without too much of a problem, and then she did know where his dorm room was...

She decided that going up to check if he was there couldn't hurt. Maybe he had forgotten?

Collecting her things, and putting the books in her bag except for a few that were the most pertinent, she made her way to what she knew to be Yev's dorm room. Books all under one arm, she was able to knock on the door easily, calling out after she did, "Hey Yev? It's Rowan. I have the books for your project?"

It was pretty bad when you find yourself bored after only three days of a new school year. Sure, Casey had plenty of things he could be doing, but he was in a mood where he just didn't feel like doing any of them. He had played most of his video games over break. A lot of his building materials were still packed up. There were no real assignments that took any effort yet as teachers were still getting in gear.

So he ended up in the bookstore.

One could never have enough books. After finding a small pile that looked interesting, Casey secured himself one of the chairs to the side. That way he could be comfortable while he sat and paged through the books to find out which ones were really worth buying.

Summary: Rowan left something at Quinn's house and is attempting to find out what happened to it.

Making her way to the Transitional Dorm, Rowan chewed on her lower lip absently. It had been a little strange staying away from home all summer long, first at Michi's and then at Quinn's house, and she still didn't really feel like she had a full break this year. Sure there were fun times, and relaxing times, and happy times, but not being in her own house for it, and with everything with her mother, she was in a very weird place, brain wise. She had been for a very long time now.

It was probably for that reason that she lost her journal. She remembered writing in it one night while staying at Quinn's, but when she got back to school and unpacked, it wasn't where it was supposed to be. Entering the dorm, she looked around the common room, feeling a little out of place and like she was invading someone else's territory. Scanning the crowd, she tried to see if Quinn was around down there. That would make this much easier.

Summary: Yevgeni is caught red handed.

Yevgeni had grown over the summer, it was getting ridiculous. He had kept track and since his birthday in April he had grown close to four inches. His pants were all too short so he ended up rolling them up into shorts. He wasn't too bothered by it though, as he found the heat of both Hesperia and New Orleans too oppressive for long pants anyways. Regardless of his pants situation, he headed back to New Orleans early for some book shopping before classes started. He hit Old Tom's Tomes and scavenged through the history and magical creatures sections first.

After finding all the books he wanted there he moved on to the fiction section in the store, looking for some recreational reading. It was while he was searching through a shelf of books that his eyes caught sight of several muggle and wizard vampire books. His eye twitched slightly at this sight and he tried to ignore the itch in his fingers to start reorganizing the books. He turned away from the daunting shelf only to return seconds later, checking around to make sure no one was watching him. First he took all the vampire books off of the shelf and piled them on the floor by his feet. He then pulled the books from one of the shelves and piled them in front of the reserves of vampire books.

He then pulled the reserves of fiction books from the book off their original shelf and piled them on the floor in a separate pile. Yevgeni began picking up the vampire books hurriedly, crushing them to his chest as he tried to put as many away at the same time as he could.

Summary: Vinnie heads out for some sun after class and ends up running into Avery of all people.

It was almost summer break. Almost done with finals and school for the year. But almost wasn't quite good enough. Vinnie was absolutely dying to get home, to go swimming and hang out with his friends, go shopping in the city, go to a party or two or ten, see some of his local family, and hopefully make the trip to Italy for a couple of weeks to see other family. Italy was always like a home away from home for him, and he looked forward to every moment that he got to spend over there.

So for now, these last few weeks were nothing but heat and time dragging on and studying. It was enough to make him just head outside and linger after classes on the lawn of the commons. There was nothing really pressing to get done, and he was more than happy to put off studying for a little while and people-watch. He decided to make his way over to one of the benches that was both in the shade and unoccupied. That way he wouldn't die of sunstroke. Which would totally kill his summer plans.

Summary: Rowan is actually outside and in the commons for once, and trying to review for the upcoming finals when someone provides a welcome interruption.

The emotional roller coaster ride that the last month plus had been for her aside, Rowan was actually in a decent mood. Her mother's disappearance was always in her mind, but at this point it was not a driving thought. There had been too much else to think of, the good and the boring, the amazing and the less than amazing, and her mood had more or less evened out. Sure she was still worried, but now she was able to concentrate on other things for a while.

With that mindset present, she decided to try her hand at being social again. Sort of. Instead of hiding in her room or out in the woods/swamp that surrounded the campus, she was out in the middle of the commons, set up under a tree with her books and her discman. Reading up on some of the things that she would be tested on shortly, Rowan was also looking up every so often, watching the people that milled about the campus in the warmth and the sunlight.

With all of the drama going on at school it was a miracle that Yev had found the silver lining on anything. A nice party between friends! It would be fun to just hang out with his friends and unwind. He got the idea in his head that it would be fun to bring Colby. There arose one problem; asking her. He didn't know why he was so nervous about it, it was just asking a friend to hang out right? But then again, any social interaction had his stomach in knots. He steeled his nerves with one look in the mirror. "Do not be such a chicken shit," he old himself. Rubbing his blue head of hair he shook his head.

It only took him a few minutes to walk over to Rienzi with his hands stuffed into his pockets. He made his way up to Colby's room and knocked on the door, stepping back. He twiddled his thumbs absentmindedly.

Summary: Mackenzie and Tatum go to the hospital to meet deal with Craig's death. One big happy family reunion, right?

Mackenzie’s hands were shaking as she shifted the car into park and turned the Rover off. They had left as soon as she had met Tatum at the Rover, stopping at the local drive through coffee place before heading for St. Dymphna’s. There hadn’t been much talking on the way over, just the newest CD Tatum had made playing softly throughout the car track after track. There was a tight pain in her chest that only worsened the closer they go to the hospital. Although now that they were here, she felt numb. Was this really happening?

She wasn’t sure if she could do this, she had never had to deal with death before. Especially not the death of someone who was like a father, even if she had refused to acknowledge him as such. She felt god awful for the way she had treated Craig in the past, all he had ever tried to do was be a guy. Now he was really gone, forever. No amount of magic could bring him back. She bit her lip, swallowing roughly as a wave of sadness washed over her, her mother must be devastated. Poor Kate, she was so upset after her father had left her and then Craig had come along and put back the light in her eyes. Even if she didn’t get along well with her mother, Kate still deserved to be happy.

She took a deep breath, resting her head again the steering wheel, she had to hold it together for now. If she walked into the hospital crying there would be now way to gain back control. She had to be strong for Kate, because she knew her mother would be a blubbering mess when she saw her. Wiping her nose quickly she brushed her hair out of her face and turned her head to look at Tatum. She hugged herself, feeling cold in the Louisiana summer heat. Maybe she was getting a fever or something, she certainly felt like she was going to be sick, her stomach had been doing this awful spin cycle dry thing since she had gotten the call.

“Thanks for coming with me, I know this isn’t like…your cup of tea,” She said quietly, frowning a little. She knew that being the strong one wasn’t very easy for Tatum, especially in a situation like this. But she appreciated the effort the girl was making, she knew that she was probably a nervous wreck inside. Hell, she was a nervous wreck inside. She hoped that Kia was already here, that would mean that her mother would at least be docile. It also meant that she wouldn’t have to be responsible for anything, Kia would take care of everything.

She shivered slightly, hugging herself tighter. They had to get out of the car eventually, it wasn’t something that could be avoided. What would be waiting for them in the hospital? Would Roger and Alex be there? She kind of hoped they would, she hadn’t seen either of them in months. Like Kia, they would help buffer Kate and she was rather fond of her step-brothers.

“I don’t know if I can do this,” she said finally, her voice cracking. She chewed on her lip and brought her knees up to her chest, resting her shins against the steering wheel. She sat there, hunched over in the driver’s seat, trying to stop wave of nausea that had washed over her with her confession.
