Things in the Prescott home were often hectic. Jessica was not the type of woman who ever really allowed herself to love anyone, and sadly that affliction stemmed all of the way down to her children. She'd never really gotten love from her own mother, and she left home when she turned sixteen. She got involved with drugs and drinking, and she really had no care for making something of herself. When she'd met Jackson, she'd felt a strong pull and connection almost immediately. At first, it scared her, and her initial instinct was to run. But eventually, she grew curious, and soon enough the two had become involved. Jackson was a sweet man. He wasn't the strongest man in the world, in fact he gave into Jess a lot, but he loved her. And when she had Joshua, he loved her even more, and he loved his son very much. Jessica seemed to know his secret from day one, and that was a comfort to Jackson who didn't have to be afraid she would judge him for it, or think him crazy. For a while, it was just the three of them, and though things got hard sometimes Jackson seemed to hold things down. Jessica, still full of bad habits, would leave for weeks at a time. She'd run off with friends, or even other men, and drink.
It was a while before she settled down enough for Julian to come along, and the stress of another child was hard on her. She never really learned how to be a mother, and it showed ten fold with Julian. Jackson took the lead, as he had when Josh was born, and this time Joshua was right there to helpe his Dad. Jessica took off again, this time for a few months, and when she came back it was obvious she was not in good shape. She'd gotten addicted to heroin, and Jackson had to help ween her off of it. For a bit, things were good. Things were mellow. But when Jeremiah came, she took off and ran again. The stress of not knowing how to properly connect with her kids was like a failure staring her right in the face and she just didn't really know how to deal. Over the next year of Jeremiah's life, she was very painfully absent. She would come and go as she pleased, and over the past few years Jackson noticed the scent of other wolves on her. He started to wonder if she had some sort of a past, or maybe something in her genetics that drew her to his kind, and that's when he started to seek out her father. With their father gone, the kids were often left on their own, and it was up to Joshua to look after the little ones. By Jeremiah's second birthday, Jackson left on a tip of where to find Jessica's father, and he never came back.
By the time Miah was three, Jessica was around more, but mostly because Jackson was gone. She started to date other men, favoring humans this time around. She felt that wolves were to complicated. Her father had never stuck around, and now Jackson had left her. It was a while before she figured out that he was dead, but to her it was no different. He was gone now, too. The type of men she consorted with weren't the best kind, either. Drug dealers, mostly. It was easy for her to get what she wanted out of them. The boys went ignored, and when they weren't ignored, they were getting in trouble for things they didn't quite understand.
Today was no different, and the second Joshua came through the door from school, he was greeted by the sound of Julian crying as he was sent up to his room. Jessica was standing by the stairs, obviously drunk, and the moment she heard the door open she turned to look at Joshua with blurry eyes.
"Good, you're home, you can deal with them now," she said as she went over to sit on the couch.
Their home was modest. It wasn't too big, but Julian and Miah had their room they shared, and Joshua had his own. A bathroom connected the two rooms, and downstairs, away from them was their mother's room that she shared with Rick.
