On a dark desert highway, cool wind in my hair
Warm smell of colitas, rising up through the air
Up ahead in the distance, I saw a shimmering light

The Hotel
In the middle of nowhere, the hotel is an oasis in the otherwise unforgiving desert. There's only a single road that travels to and from the hotel, but as far as you go down it... you never seen to ever get anywhere before you somehow wind up back in your room in the hotel.

Welcome to the Hotel California
Such a lovely place, such a lovely face
Plenty of room at the Hotel California
Any time of year, you can find it here

Inside the Hotel
Ballrooms, galas, dining halls, cafes, pools, dancing water fountains.... chances are if it's extravagant and vaguely hotel-themed, you can find it in the hotel. Like the road, the hotel doesn't seem to ever end. As far as you walk away from the front door, you never seen to run into any sort of back door, although from the outside, the hotel looks quite small and cozy.

No matter how many room keys the front desk gives out, there always seems to be more rooms available--just don't expect them to be in numerical order. The hotel loves its twists and turns as much as it enjoys shifting about like a twitchy puppy.

So I called up the captain, ’Please bring me my wine’
He said, ’we haven’t had that spirit here since 1969’

Time and Reality Shifts
You may be in the middle of breakfast when the dining hall around you suddenly drops back ten years, or jumps up fifty years. Luckily your food won't suddenly age as well, but if you haven't gotten your meal from the waiter or waitress, you might have to reorder and consider the "new" menu.

Reality may also jump around, sparked by celebrations or just simply whatever food you eat/pool you swim in/couch you sit on, you may find yourself vastly different than a few moments before. Sometimes a door may open to a beach where a bathroom was before. Chances are whatever sense of time and space you once had will probably be challenged by the hotel.

And still those voices are calling from far away,
Wake you up in the middle of the night
Just to hear them say...

NPCs
There is a full staff at the hotel, make no mistake. It just seems that the staff aren't quite all there. A bit see-through and ghostly, they seem to be formed of residual energy built up from the actual people who used to work at the hotel. When asked about the hotel's strange habits, they usually have no idea what you're talking about. They also may mistake you for a guest they've had before, "Mr. Wilson" or "Mrs. Jones" perhaps, but even when corrected, chances are that they'll mess it up the next time you need a new towel. Luckily, they are still solid enough to do their jobs... but just don't expect to bump into them in hallways, you may just get a chill instead.

Last thing I remember, I was
Running for the door
I had to find the passage back
To the place I was before
’Relax,’ said the night man,
'We are programmed to receive.
'You can checkout any time you like,
'But you can never leave!'

1. DO UNTO OTHERS AS YOU WOULD HAVE DONE UNTO YOU. Be respectful and courteous to one another. ICly your character can be as much of an ass as he or she wants, but OOCly remember that jerkiness is not approved and can get you booted.

2. Don't be an asshole. This should go without saying. Don't be threatening, insulting, and/or harassing the other players. It's not 'just a joke' when it hurts someone. If someone is bothering you please contact the mods and get things sorted appropriately like mature human beings.

3. No godmoding, metagaming or grandstanding. Your character can't be all powerful. They have weaknesses. You must be given OOC permission to control another character's actions. Make sure to ask for permission before horribly maiming and/or killing other muns' characters.

4. Put proper warnings on posts and use cuts. This isn't a smut or gore dressing room, please remember not everyone had a stomach of steel. Put clear warnings on posts and threads that get into dangerous nsfw areas, and if characters are going to have sex make sure to move the thread to a f-locked post or off-comm to a journal.

5. Let other people have their turn on the swingset. You can't be the center of attention all the time. Make sure not to make too many posts in a row before someone else has the chance to make their own posts. Player-run plots are lovely things but don't force the plot to center only around your character constantly--other people want a turn, too.

6. HAVE FUN.
