As of present, Feronira is home to three sentient races: Humans, Algoldhi, and “The People.”

People

“The People” are the planetary natives. They are sometimes referred to as “Furries” by disrespectful humans. Five distinct groups have been found on Feronira: Long-Snout People, Soft-Paw People, Split-Hoof People, Wing People, and Scale People. They all appear to be bipedal equivalents of Canids (Long-Snout), Felidae (Soft-Paw), Cervidae (Split-Hoof), Avians(Wing) and reptile (Scale) animals.

Socially, the People have a tribal culture. Each group of People is lead by a Chief, assisted by one or more Shaman, and/or Healers. The exact status of these leaders and how they are chosen vary from tribe to tribe. Interestingly enough, inter-tribal relations are generally not frowned upon, even though each tribe is genetically different enough to make such unions childless. The exception to inter-tribal relationships not being frowned upon are relations between Long-Snout and Soft-Paw or Wing and Soft-Paw relationships. Those are considered dangerous and rather taboo.

The Long-Snout and Soft-Paw People are the tribes most commonly encountered by Humans. Both groups make excellent guards and guides; however members of the Long-Snout tribe are considered the more honest. Wing and Scale People commonly interact with the Algoldhi, and sometimes act as their spokesmen. Split-Hoof People are shy, and there have been few interactions with them.

Algoldhi

The Algoldhi are not native to Feronira. They are a slave-race, created and sold by the Sirius Manufacturing Company. Those that inhabit Feronira are thought to be descendants of a group slaves that escaped sometime during the previous millennium, in the company of a really confused space-ship crew. They live in small groups scattered about the mid-line of the northern hemisphere, and generally lack leaders. However, members of the Wing or Scale People tribes are often used as spokesmen to the various human groups.

Physically, the Algoldhi on Feronira have not changed from their parent stock. They remain appearing like the human idea of “demons”: oddly pigmented skin and hair, claw-like hands and/or feet, fang-like canines or pointed teeth, possibly wings, tails, extraneous fur, and/or horns.
Genetically, the Algoldhi are similar to humans and sometimes, babies are born to the Algoldhi that resemble human—lacking the odd pigments, claws, etc. On other planets, these children are often put up for human adoption. On Feronira, these children are considered cursed and treated appropriately.

Human

On Feronira, humans are the same as they are, throughout the Confederation. They have a high-technological culture, and a slight superiority complex. They can most commonly be found in Trade City.

Q: What the heck is this?
A: This is a role-playing game that takes place in an unspecified future period and on a distant planet, known as Feronira.

Q: Why did you set it on a distant planet and stuff?
A: We wanted to do something a bit different, and the outré setting gave us more room for creativity than setting it simply on Earth.

Q: What’s the “Confederation of Terran Planets”?
A: Humanity has become a star-spanning culture, and with populations spread out over planets rather than continents, they wanted some kind of governing body. As a result, the Confederation was developed.

Q: What does “Class D protected planet” mean?
A: It means that the Confederation of Terran Planets wants to preserve the planet’s “native” culture, and therefore no one is allowed to interfere with local governments, and no unauthorized technology outside of certain areas.

Q: Well, that’s no fun.
A: That’s no question… but it is an opportunity for creativity. XP

Q: What’s with the three races?
A: It wouldn’t be much fun if humanity was alone in the universe. It gave us a chance to explore more types of conflict than just “man vs. nature.”

Q: Are the Algoldhi still slaves or what?
A: On some planets, yes, the Algoldhi are still slaves. There are humans that have come to Feronira to work, with their Algoldhi slaves… However, the “native” Algoldhi are not slaves. Not now, anyway.

Q: What does that mean, anyway?
A: “Algoldhi”? It’s a corruption of “al ghul,” which means “the demon” in Arabic. The Sirius Manufacturing Company had a branch of its genetic engineering plant on a planet that orbits one of the stars in the Algol binary star system. It was at that plant that the Algoldhi were first created.

Q: What’s with the People and why don't they have a weird name like the Algoldhi?
A: Hey! That's two questions, and therefore requires two answers:
1. We thought it’d be neat, and it would appeal to more than one group of role-player.
2. "The People" sounded more appealing than having to create a new appropreate term.

Q: What do "canids," "felidae," "Cervidae," and "Avian" mean?
A: Dog or wolf-like animals, cat-like animals, deer-like animals, and birds-like animals.

Q: Why didn't you just say that?
A: Because it sounds... more exhaulted. The information "files" are supposed to sound like they come from an Earth-based computer.

Q:If I want to be one of the People, why can’t I be any kind of animal?
A: For the time being it is better to limit the types of animals so that the world isn't too complicated and gives more opportunities for interactions with other characters. We did want *tribes* rather than isolated individuals.

Q: Sooo.... how do I join?
A: Come up with a character, fill out an applicaton and post it in a comment to THIS post. alazif or kuroitenshi will review it and invite you to the communities.

Q: Um... why is there an "Adult Content Notice"?
A: Because we're rather dealing with "adult concepts," though not always of a sexual nature. Probably more along the lines of slavery, racisim, outlawry, colonialism and bad words.

Feronira is the second planet in a four-planet system that orbits around the yellow, main-sequence star of a binary star system. It is about one astronomical unit from the main sequence star, and about two astronomical units from the partner white dwarf star. Its gravity is roughly comparable to Earth’s, despite the lack of abundant metals. However, there is an abundance of promethium that can be excavated with a minimum of mining.

The climate is semi-temperate and comparable to Earth’s, with four distinct seasons and two polar ice caps. However, the weather varies wildly from season to season. The summers are hot, dry, with severe droughts and wildfires common, especially in the years in which the two stars are close. Also in those years, summers tend to be longer. Winters tend to be extremely cold and difficult with ice or snow-storms a major hazard. As with the summers, the years in which the stars are farthest apart are those with the harshest winters. Spring and autumn both tend to be tempest-filled, with high-winds and unpredictable storms.

In Feronira’s star-strewn night sky, up to three moons can be seen. Their names are Ilargi, Ta’lab, and Losna. All three have irregular orbits, a notable influence on the tides, and often behavior. At least once every thirteen months, all three moons can be seen from the surface as full at one time.

Losna is the closest and therefore largest in the sky. When seen from the surface of the planet, it has a blue tint to it. It orbits close enough to go through all its phases in about two to three weeks.
Ta’lab is the farthest away and the smallest in the sky. When seen from the surface of the planet, it appears white. A full cycle for Ta’lab takes the longest. It is generally thought to be a small asteroid that had been captured by Feronira’s gravity.
Between Lonsa and Ta’lab, orbits Ilargi. When seen from the surface, it has a rather greenish tint to it.

Feronira is a recent addition to the Confederation of Terran Planets, and due to the low-technological society of its people, it is classified as a Class D protected planet: No interference with local governments, and no unauthorized technology outside of sanctioned areas.
