Messengers arrive with official transport for Kassia, Marrina, and MacKenzie, all duly informing them that the time has come to speak with Prince Namor regarding the whole unfortunate string of events that recently took place.

Mac's optimism springs eternal. He looks at his cousins. "Aw, come on, that's not the point; it'll just put some extra gills in the family so people'll stop whining. Which'll be handy in case you two don't want kids! We've taken out the real traitors already; we can't have that much craziness!"

"MacKenzie has the right of my intentions in doing this. As I said, you two will not be removed from the line of succession and anyone trying to harm /any/ of you will still have to go through me.

But, Kassia and Marrina, this is where both of you must come into your own. You will need to win the hearts and minds of the people in order to secure the kingdom. I cannot do this alone any longer." Namor says.

"I am doing my utmost not to force any of you to choose between the surface and Atlantis, but you /must/ meet me on common ground here." Namor says.

"Explain to me how to do that when you sent me back to the surface. I don't know how I'm supposed to be in two places at once."

Mac's comment about not wanting kids hit home for Marrina. Of the few things she was sure of, it was that her trying to have kids was in the bad things category. Not with her alien-half.

She nods. "He wants you to build a life in both worlds, Kassi. Wants all of us to be able to do that. I think."

"And the education side of things is what's important. You two are going to be the smart ones, after all, and Mom's always been able to apply perspectives she learned in high school and college to back up her stances on Atlantean issues." Mac hopes he can back education for the girls without someone trying to make him go to college.

Namor nods at the words of both Mac and Marrina.

"Your cousin and your sister have the right of it, Kassia. Even more than they, you were born of two words. MacKenzie's mother lives here, and Marrina's adoptive parents understand that she is not fully human.

You, on the other hand, have been forced to hide your whole life. If Emma Frost's daughter vanishes from the public view, there will be questions that are not easily answered. Once you are eighteen, it will be easy enough to say you're 'studying abroad', allowing you to return to Atlantis full-time, if that is what you want." Namor says.

He looks at each of them in turn, trying to impress upon them the point of what he's doing.

"I am not trying to create a new heir and push any or all of you aside. Just the opposite; if the Atlantean people can see someone who looks like them in among the ruling house, it will allay the rumor-mongers and these vile 'Atlantis First' fools who are insisting that I'm trying to do everything from enslave those of blue skin to raising Atlantis from the depths.

Sadly, we are running out of alternatives in which to convince people of my sincerity." Namor says.

She didn't like anything he was saying. She'd seen the way people responded to the crap with "Doom" and she had a really bad feeling about what the reaction would be if suddenly there was a blue and less-likely to breathe air option in the Royal line.

She also worried about the relationship with said blue child. A child that would grow up with Namor. A child that would have his attention.

She was being exiled--that's how it felt--and Namor was getting another child he could bond with.

"Well, you're the king," she said quietly. "You have to do what you think is the right choice."

Kassi just wanted to go home now, but she wasn't sure what home even was.

Unlike Kassi, Marrina hadn't known her father until she was already an adult. She called the Smallwoods "mom" and "dad." Though she had dreamed of one day getting to know her father and to learn more of her mother, she had often felt unprepared for the world into which she had been thrust.

A little sibling who would grow up in Atlantis. Who would be more Atlantean than any of them.

"I'm not sure I like the idea of a child being used for politics like that," she said finally. "But I guess that's how politics works."

"If anyone has any better ideas that would ally the concerns of millions of people and the nobility speaking for them, I would love to hear them." Namor says sincerely.

"I only offer the suggestion that will be presented to me in absence of all others." he says.

"I wish I could impress upon all of you that I am not trying to replace any of you. I love you all dearly, but even a sovereign is responsible to the people." Namor says.

"Yeah, it's admittedly awkward, Marrina, but plenty of kids have gotten by like that, and it's not like he or she's not going to have normal family support."

Speaking of normal family support, Kassi looked like she was taking this weirdness really hard. Mac's hand started to go out for hers.

He frowns. "I sure can't think of anything, Sir. I bet this stuff's a little easier in places with written constitutions. The rules right there where you can point to them instead of general feelings about cultural norms that everyone can just get nervous about." Sure, American politics were scary and fractured, but they at least had a few things nailed down on paper to settle some things.

Kassia didn't notice Mac's hand. She'd already started to close herself off, though she wasn't fully aware of that being what was going on.

"Yeah, the kid'll have all Dad's attention. He'll be ok."

And we won't have any.

She frowned, slightly.

Marina went for Kassi's other hand.

"Logically... it's a good plan. And... the kid'll be there for us too, just like we'll be there for him or her."

Namor did not like the effect this idea was having upon Kassia, but he still had to consider the idea.

"For now, we will table this portion of the discussion. I will speak with my advisers and see what other ideas avail us." Namor says.

"In the meantime, I would like all of you to be present for the Annual War Games this year. This is an event our people believe in greatly, so I will ask that your significant others remain at home, for those who have them." Namor says simply.

"I will only ask for a few days of your time for the celebration and the feast that will occur afterward. When this is done, you may all return home. Can I count on each of you to be there?" Namor asks.

Kassia didn't take her sister's hand, either, but she nodded when her father asked for them to be at the War Games. She had no problem agreeing to that; she'd been looking forward to them.

"Yes, sir."

"Very well, then. This meeting is adjourned for now. If I have anything further to discuss, I'll contact you all with as much advance warning as possible." he says.
