Thoreau's body was not used to the withdrawal Thoreau put it through when Radley was around, but it was summer and he could get away with wearing his sunglasses outside all the time. Plus, the sneaking around and trying to be quiet was fun. Radley always stayed in his room when he was visiting. Thoreau felt bad about not spending a lot of time with Rooney, but he never got to see Radley.
"Do you think I can come visit you and Mum for a bit before summer ends?" he asked as he whisked together the ingredients for brownies. Their parents weren't home and Thoreau needed a boost and weed wasn't really a drug or anything and it wasn't like Radley thought he was a pure flower, so they were special brownies. "Or maybe she'll just let me kidnap you so you don't have to leave again."
