And like, late afternoon I guess
Where: Twilight Town's sandlot. Obviously, this is very much AU, if you haven't guessed already, lawl
Open/Closed: Closed

It was just another day in Twilight Town, the constant evening sun giving the town a soft orange glow. And like a lot of days in Twilight Town, five year old Roxas was wandering the streets. He was happy actually, because he'd finally saved up enough money from chores to buy himself a sea-salt ice cream bar, so he did just that.

He was on his way from Market Street to the Sandlot, carrying the ice cream in one hand while eating it, and in his other hand he dragged a little red wagon behind him. The red wagon was filled with little plastic shovels, buckets, and sand castle molds. He always waited until later in the afternoon to come out and play because, well, he wanted to avoid the other kids, who liked to make fun of Roxas because he was smaller than them. Sometimes he was able to avoid them, other times he wasn't so lucky. But hey, at least today he had his ice cream. That made everything better.

Title: Memories [part 2 of ?]
Fandom: Kingdom Hearts and Devil May Cry
Characters: Roxas and Nero
Genre: Angst
Rating: G
Summary: Nero tries to gain the amnesiac Roxas's trust.

"Hey...Nero?" That's his name right?

"Yeah?" He replies, his back to me. He's running a white wash cloth under the kitchen faucet. I'm sitting at a kitchen table, holding my head. I took two aspirin a minute ago and I'm waiting on it to kick in. It can't come soon enough.

This is a little one bedroom apartment. It's a tad messy, clothes scattered here and there. Not too bad though, it seems comfortable. And familiar. But this can probably be explained by the fact that I apparently live here...with him. In this one bedroom apartment. That's what he told me when we got here. Well, I don't know for certain but I'm pretty sure I wasn't born yesterday.

"You and me...are we...together?"

He stops. His back is still to me, he's still holding the wash cloth under the water, which is running all on his hands but he doesn't seem to be paying any mind. For a moment, he doesn't move or speak. Pretty heavy question, but I have to know. So I asked.

"Yeah." He says in a very sober tone. He finally reaches and turns the faucet off, then turns to me. But he's not looking at me, he's looking at the floor. His shoulders are heavy and his expression is still fallen. The sadness in his eyes continues to tug at my chest. Man, I'm really getting tired of that feeling. He hands me the wash cloth, puts it on my forehead. It's warm and moist. I hold it to my forehead and he pulls away, slouching on the seat just next to me. He leans forward, arms on his knees, head bowed as though his neck can't hold the weight.

He waits. I'm looking at him, torn between wanting to make him feel better somehow and wanting to disappear because I feel like I've just torn this guy apart. "We're married," he says finally.

There's a heavy pounding in my chest suddenly.

"I see..." I say slowly, fingers twitching on the wash cloth sitting on my forehead.

"That's why I need you to trust me." He continues. "I wasn't...going to mention it. I didn't...want to startle you. But I won't to lie to you." He looks up at me and reaches into his hoodie, pulling out a chain with a silver star-shaped pendant and shows it to me. "You gave me this." He lets the pendant fall, hanging over his hoodie as he reaches to my chest. I didn't realize it until he grabbed it, but there was a pendant hanging on my neck too. He grabbed it and grabbed my free hand, putting my fingers around it. "And I gave that to you. We exchanged these after I asked you to marry me. You said yes. And...."

And he's scared that he'll never have his husband back.

I'm scared I'll lost who I was forever.

I start to shake and I think he could sense it, because he pulls away. "Sorry." He says. He gets up, brushing his nose with the back of his forearm. "You should probably rest. Want me to show you the bedroom?"

"Don't say you're sorry." I say, looking up at him. "I asked a question and you answered it. I want to know who I am. No, I need to know who I am. I don't remember anything. I only know my name because you said it. Please. Tell me more. I have to know who I am."

His eyes seem to waver as he looks back at me, taking in my words. He takes a moment but my eyes don't waver at all, I'm just looking dead at him, waiting. But he doesn't say anything. I don't know if it's because he doesn't know where to start or what, but I'm feeling impatient.

"You're...the only hope I have right now." If we're married, that's not too much to ask, right? I feel like I'm going out on a limb just saying that to him, but it's true. I'm lost and he promised me I could get better. He promised me I'd be okay. I need him to keep that promise. "I don't remember a thing. I couldn't even tell you my shoe size or how old I am. And...I'm scared. And I don't know why, but I feel like I can trust you. So please. Help me get my identity back."

Finally, he sits back down with me. He puts his head in both of his hands, leaning forward, elbows on his knees. The wash cloth on my forehead is starting to get cold, but at least the aspirin is starting to kick in finally so it's okay.

"I made you a promise." He says, his voice muffled from behind his fingers. "I'm going to keep that promise. If it's the last thing I ever do, you will have your identity back. You'll be Roxas again. Because I...I can't..."

He stops. His shoulders start to shake, even worse than before when I had admitted that I didn't remember his name. And I freeze, feeling helpless. What should I do? What should I say? As I'm looking at him, I notice something emerge from between his fingers, glistening against the pale light of the kitchen above us. A single tear, slowly falling down the backside of his hand. Maybe we really are married...

I can't watch this. I just can't. I stand up and drop the wash cloth onto the table and I walk over to him. I want to say something, but I know I can't and I know I can't watch this. Standing next to him, I slowly wrap my arms around his shoulders, holding him tight. I'm sorry that I'm like this and I'm sorry if it's my fault just please...don't cry.

"You can't what?" I whisper.

He stops again. I feel him tremble slightly. I'm pretty sure I surprised him. He whispers, "I can't live without you." As in, who I was. Whoever that person was.

And somehow, the way he said that, I just know. He's telling me the truth. I am married to him. He's told me the truth about every single thing he's said since I woke up. Or more appropriately, since I fell asleep because let's face it, I'm not awake right now. I'm sleeping.

Regardless, I knew that there was no way he was faking the deep sadness in his voice. That was real.

I watch as another tear falls and drops the floor below him. I hold him tighter. "Please don't cry." I whisper. "I'm going to get my memories back. I told you, I need you. Don't fall apart on me now. I...I need you."

He finally pries his arms from his face and wraps them around my waist, pulling me even closer, burying his face in my chest. At this point, I don't mind. I just hold him. It's a warm, familiar feeling being in his arms. In fact, it's so familiar that I start to wonder if it will help me remember anything.

"I'm not falling apart." He says. "I'll be strong for you."

"I know. I trust you."

He pulls his head from my chest and pulls away, wiping his face. "Before...I tell you more about you, tell me the last thing you remember."

I guess that's fair. I return to my seat with a sigh and stare at the floor. The last thing I remember. I shut my eyes and try to force something into my mind, anything.

"Take it easy. Take a deep breath. Just tell me as much as you can."

I took that deep breath, my eyes still shut. Now, let's see what I can piece together. If anything.

Title: Memories [part 1 of ?]
Fandom: Kingdom Hearts and Devil May Cry
Characters: Roxas and Nero
Genre: Angst
Rating: G
Summary: Memory Loss. Roxas's point of view, takes place in Fortuna. First part of a new fic. Rehashed old idea done in a slightly different way.

I guess the right way to start this off would be to say when this was or where it happened, who I am and who I was with but I can't. It's not there. I try to remember but I keep drawing a blank.

You know how scary that is? To sit there, trying to remember your own name and coming up with nothing? I can't even remember what I look like, my favorite food, where live or anything. And there's this guy, he's got this freakish arm, and he's looking at me with wide eyes and I don't know what to say to him. He looks really scared. Well, he's not the only one. But the thing is that I can feel something, in my chest, when he looks at me and I don't know what it is or why it's there. It's a familiar feeling, feels kind of warm, but I don't even know this guy's name.

The only thing I can remember is waking up just a second ago with my head throbbing. I'd say it was the worst headache of my life, but I can't say say that for sure. I don't know if I've ever had a headache before at all. Or even why I may have woken up with one. The only thing that's in my mind is this headache. Everything else, including myself, is strange, foreign, and kind of scary.

"Roxas?" That guy with the arm, he's got this calming voice. He sounds as scared as I feel. And his eyes, wide like that, I kind of get the feeling that it might be strange for him. But it still felt familiar. None of this makes any sense.

Who's Roxas? Is he talking to me? Judging by the look on his face, he must be. Is Roxas a name or some silly expression I've never heard? Neither would surprise me.

I'm clutching my head with both hands and realize I'm sitting on the ground, legs stretched out on the asphalt below me. The asphalt is hot, it would probably burn my legs if I were wearing shorts. It's hot, probably a summer day. And my head, it's throbbing so bad that my vision is blurring. The other guy's voice is distant even though his shadow is hovering over me. He's leaning down over me, when I open my eyes I can see his hands on his knees. One human hand, the other...I have no clue. I look up for a second and see four sets of eyes and a blurring white blob with thin strands blowing in a slight breeze. This guy, his hands are bigger than mine. He's a pretty good size but right now he looks like a little child trapped that grown body. At least, with the way he's looking at me right now, with those eyes.

"Roxas?" He asks again. Yeah, he's talking to me. His voice echos in my head and all I can think about for a second is how I could really use some aspirin.

I look down, clutch my head harder, trying to make the pain go away even slightly. Anything, anything, please. What happened to me?

"Roxas, are you alright?"

Well, that was a silly question. No, I'm not alright. I'm hurting and I'm scared. I'm pretty sure you mean something to me, a lot actually, but I have no idea what.

"You got anything for my head?" I ask. I'll find out everything after this pain goes away. I don't want to move until then.

His expressions softens even further and he holds out his freakish looking hand to me. "Give me your hand, I'll take you home. I think I got something at the apartment."

His apartment? But I don't know him. Is that okay? I don't even know who this guy is, is it really a good idea to go to his home? He seems okay, especially with this weird feeling in my chest when I look back at him, but...I don't remember him so I don't know.

My arms are shaking as I take my hands off my head, placing my palms flat on the asphalt underneath me. The burning sensation from it doesn't even phase me because all I can think about is my throbbing headache. I try to push myself up and get about halfway to my feet when I feel myself stumble. But before I can fall, I'm caught. That guy, his arms around around me.

"Take it easy," he says.

"Thanks." I reply. I find my balance again and stand up straight, the world's spinning. He lets me go but his arms aren't far. He stands up really close to me, still looking at me with those eyes. He knows something happened. I can see it in his eyes. All four sets of them. But I'm afraid to tell him. Somehow, I get the feeling it will crush him. And....I don't what to do that to him.

"We're safe now," he says to me. "After it got you, I slaughtered its sorry ass. Never seen that thing before. And last I checked, the Hell Gate was still closed. I need some answers." His tone was strange in a way, laced with determination and concern simultaneously. And somehow, I felt drawn to that.

"After what got me?" I ask. I'm trying not to clutch my head now. I don't want to hear that worried tone again.

He tilts his head. "The demon. You went right after it. I know it was fast, but it was right in front of you." He pauses, as if expecting an answer from me. Only I have no idea what he's talking about so I don't say anything. What can I say? "There was a flash and you went out. I didn't see what happened," he goes on, "but I tore it's sorry ass apart after that. Why'd you go after it like that? I asked you to wait."

I want to say something, anything. He's looking at me, waiting. I open my mouth but no words come out. My mind is a complete and total blank. I'm starting to feel kind of stupid actually. Something, anything. Words. Words have somehow escaped me.

He looks confused, concerned. He's looking right into my eyes. I can't look away. "Roxas....how did we hear about the demon being in town?"

I don't remember the demon or anything about the town we're in, let alone how he and I had supposedly heard about it being in the town. I bite my lower lip. If I say I don't know, I admit something happened. I could try to give an answer. Something generic so he won't ask me anymore questions. Maybe...I'll remember soon. I obviously hit my head really hard, maybe it's just taking a second to get myself together. Yeah, that's it.

"I think people screaming was the first clue." I try to make it sound like a joke. See? I'm fine. I'm messing with you, whatever-your-name-is.

His expressions falters. There's some kind of deep pain. It's the same pain I saw when I first laid eyes on him when I woke up a few seconds ago but now it's starting to get worse. "Roxas...this part of town is abandoned. We got the call from Kyrie to check things out here. No civilians saw it."

I'm shaking. I look away. I'm scared. He's on to me. I don't want to tell him. I know it'll hurt him. I can't explain how, I just know. And I know I don't want to hurt him. I'm desperately hoping that everything will flood to my mind at any moment. Now.....or now....now. But nothing happens.

"Yeah, I know. Come on, what's with all the questions? I got a headache, you got something for it or not?" Okay, maybe I'm coming off as a little harsh in my tone. But...I'm scared.

"Roxas..." He asks in a calm tone, as if he didn't even hear me. Or maybe he did and that's the problem. I don't know. And yeah, I figured out that my name is Roxas, I get it. Are we good now? "Where are we?"

I still can't look at him. I'm shaking even more now. I can't do this, I can't tell him. I can't tell him I don't remember anything. I can't let him hurt with that news. Nor do I really want to make sense of why I know that news will hurt him.

I turn and start to walk away. "I don't know what your problem is. I got hit pretty hard, okay? Just let me clear my head. I'm fine."

His human arm clutches my wrist. "Just answer me, Roxas. Where are we?"

I freeze. "We're home. I just need to go for a walk, alright? Come on."

He pulls on my arm and suddenly I'm turned around, hands clutched on my shoulders for a moment before he clutches my face, holding my face so I'm dead even with his eyes. My vision is still blurring slightly but I can see his eyes clearly and I know that he won't let me out of this.

Shit.

"What's my name?" He asks it like a question he doesn't want to ask. Like a child asking if he has to go to the dentist today. Yes, sweetie, you do. I'm glad you asked, if you hadn't I would have forgotten.

I bite my lip again. I have no idea what this guy's name is. I don't know anything about him, only the way he's making me feel right now. "Quit messing around..." I whisper. It comes out as a whisper because I'm scared.

"I'm not messing around but if you are, this isn't funny anymore. Just tell me. Please. What's my name?"

I can't look away. His grip on my cheeks won't let me. He's not buying my act anymore. I feel transparent and small. I'm a little creature shivering in the cold with shadows hovering around me. I don't have a choice anymore.

"I...I don't know."

I could see his heart breaking through his eyes. This is what I was trying to avoid. Maybe, hopefully, I can take this away from him when my memories come back at any moment. Please, right now, it needs to happen. I'm wishing desperately. But it doesn't still.

He looks down but doesn't let me go. Maybe I imagined it but I could swear I see his shoulders shake a little before he looks back up at me. I know he wasn't laughing.

His thumb strokes my cheek slightly and I want to pull back but I can't. I'm not sure if I would even if I was able to though.

"Listen to me," he starts, locking eyes with mine again. "You're Roxas. I'm Nero. And I need you to trust me. We're going to get you better again. I promise. But I need you to trust me. Please."

What can I do? I'm lost and the only things I know are what's happened since I woke up. Everything else is a blank. If I go out there by myself, trying to find myself again, where do I start? Can I even defend myself? And I got this guy here, Nero, who's asking me to trust him. Admittedly, there is a small part of me scared that this is a bad idea.

But the more he looks into his eyes, the more that warm feeling in my chest increases. And...his sad expression is making something deep inside me ache. I can't explain it, but I can't walk away. I trust him. And somehow, I don't know why, but I'm very glad that it was him there when I woke up and not anyone else. Considering I didn't even know his name until he told me, that probably doesn't even make sense.

"Okay," I say quietly. "Can I please have something for my head first?"

He gives me a small, sad smile. "Yeah, beauti-...just...follow me, okay?"

I nod, trying to figure out why he almost called me 'beautiful'. He turns and starts down the road, keeping a close eye on me as I follow him.

    <lj:music>Lifehouse - Hanging by a Moment</lj:music>

Posting with my Sora account for the lulz. Decided this should go here because no one else on my flist is gonna read this anyway lol. So this is going here as well as my LJ fic comm for archive purposes. I fully intend to write future parts. Muahaha. Also, yes, I'm a fag. A giant one who couldn't be happier.

Title: Hanging by a Moment (Part 1 of ?)
Fandom: Kingdom Hearts and Devil May Cry
Characters: Sora and Nero
Genre: General to start out but future chapters will turn shounen-ai, and yaoi is more likely than you think
Rating: G for now
Summary: Sora has been called to a new world for help but discovers more than he bargained for.

Even after defeating Organization XIII, restoring the words and returning home with his beloved friends, Sora was still called upon occasionally for missions. These calls usually came from King Mickey but sometimes they came from other allies such as Leon in Hollow Bastion. But that was perfectly okay with Sora. Anything he could do to help.

One day, King Mickey sent Sora a letter, informing him that he was needed in another world, one he'd never been to before. The world had recently seen a lot of damage due to creatures Sora had never faced before during the time he was battling Organization XIII. Now, the world needed help rebuilding while still dealing with what was left of these creatures. Demons. Sora was told they were like heartless but stronger than most heartless. Sora was ready and anxious to help. Other than this information, all Sora was informed of was the town's name. Fortuna.

Sora had been dropped off via gummi ship in front of a large church. After the ship took off, Sora took a moment to admire the church, staring at it idly. Sora loved going to new worlds, there was always something new and unique to see. And this was no exception. If anything, Fortuna would become more proof of that than anything, judging by King Mickey's letter.

Upon admiring the church, the young keyblade wielder suddenly heard a faint, distant cackling. That was no normal laugh. It was a laughter that sent chills down his spine. Instinctively, he summoned Ultima and after a bright flash around his hand, he was gripping the powerful keyblade.

Sora's instincts rarely, if ever, failed him. Sure enough, strange looking creatures suddenly appeared, five of them, all hovering over to Sora, surrounding him. Were these the demons the king told him about in his letter?

Though surrounded, Sora charged after one of the creatures, keyblade ready. He swung his keyblade several times, hacking away at it slowly. It was becoming clear very quickly already that these creatures were in fact stronger than heartless, creating a bigger challenge for Sora. He wasn't able to defeat the first creature so easily before the rest gained up on him so he was forced to attempt to weaken the first creature before turning and weakening one behind him. He repeated this several times, hoping eventually they would disappear, that his attacks were enough. Was he overwhelmed? Well, with how fast he was moving and how focused and determined he was to defeat them, he didn't give himself the opportunity to consider such a thing.

Once he thought he had his rear covered, he turned to attack another creature, just as he'd been doing, swinging away with his keyblade. But suddenly, he felt a sharp pain on his back, a blade cutting him deeply from his right shoulder blade to the left side of his waist, tearing deeply into skin and ripping his clothes. He let out a cry of pain, feeling himself cut deeply down his back. How did he slip up like that?

"Stand back," came a voice from behind him. Before Sora could even turn around, he caught sight of a large sword to the side of him, beginning to slash away at the creatures. Sora's keyblade was powerful but this weapon seemed significantly more deadly.

"Move!" The stranger pressed from behind him. Oh, Sora moved alright. He gripped Ultima tightly again, turning to attack the creatures the new fighter had not yet gotten to. Teamwork. And he hadn't even seen this guy's face yet.

This helped tremendously. With the new fighter's help, Sora was able to finish off two of the creatures as the other fighter handled the other three with a lot less trouble than Sora. Then again, not only did he have a powerful weapon but he was probably a lot more familiar with these creatures than Sora.

With nothing but puddles of goo remaining, Sora dismissed Ultima, the weapon vanishing from his hand. He turned and finally caught sight of the other fighter, a young man quite a bit taller than Sora with platinum white hair and deep-set eyes. The tall fighter was returning his weapon to his back when Sora offered a handshake and a smile.

"Thanks a lot," said the brunette with his signature charming smile. "They're different from what I'm used to. My name is Sora."

The other fighter looked him up and down, examining him before shaking Sora's hand with a tight grip. "Nero," He said simply. "You new in town?" However, Nero seemed to know the answer to his question before he even asked.

Sora pulled away from the handshake and scratched his head, laughing nervously. "Just dropped in. So were those demons we fought? I've never seen any before."

"Yeah, those were demons." Nero said, brushing his nose against his forearm, looking at Sora carefully. "I'd be careful if I were you, it's not everyday that someone's gonna show up and save you."

Was that a joke? Sora laughed anyway. "I'll be fine. They just kind of caught me off guard." He winced slightly, reminded of the deep cut on his back as a sharp pain went through him. That hurt. He reached into one of the pouches attached to his belt, digging in, reaching for potions...only to find it was empty. "What?" He gasped, mostly to himself. He reached for his second pouch on his other side frantically going through it, only to find that was empty as well. "But I thought I..." He gave a dejected sigh. Great.

Nero gave him an odd look. "Lose something?"

Sora looked up at him. "Have you seen a moogle around here anywhere? I need some supplies..."

Nero rose an eyebrow and titled his head. "Have no idea what a moogle is, but what kind of supplies are you looking for?"

"Well...." Sora started before turning around, showing Nero his back, where he was deeply cut and his clothes ripped. And he was bleeding, his clothes already becoming darkened with his own blood. "They sorta got to me before you showed up." Caught off guard, like he said.

Nero's face changed, Sora could see a glimmer of something in his eyes as he glanced as the demon hunter over his shoulder. Concern? "You better come with me. I got some stuff at my place that'll patch you up." He turned around and started walking out of the church courtyard area and towards the street. He waved for Sora to follow him.

Sora turned around again and raced to catch up with him, then walked alongside him. "Really? Thanks, I really appreciate it."

"Don't mention it."

Nero seemed quite alright. Sora had a feeling they were going to get along just great. Of course, Sora usually had no problem getting along with most people but for some reason with Nero it seemed different. He couldn't quite put his finger on it. Yet.
